We dined there after they reopened on Covid times. They were running a prix fixe menu, which I totally understand from a business perspective. However, all but the chicken and tofu entrees required a $7-$15 up charge, which kind of defeats the purpose of prix fixe in my mind. Service was very friendly, albeit slow. Apps and entrees were good but not mind blowing. Desserts were great! Good ambiance. Overall enjoyed the experience but I’m not sure I’d return. Maybe post-Covid.
Quite terrible meal. No option but prix-fixe, so you are trapped with the overly sweet, completely uninspiring food for 3 courses. We watched as they continually brought food to the wrong tables. The wait between courses was lengthy; we were there for almost three hours. The food at any hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese restaurant would be a vast improvement over what we ate at Le Colonial.
It'd be nice to have the a la carte menu back. Otherwise, it's as good as it can be under the circumstances.
Food was well prepared, but slow to come out. I love Le Colonial so this review is skewed. The space is beautiful and really interesting. Walking through the courtyard into the dining room is a great experience. The wait staff is very professional. The server even comped a drink because the kitchen fell behind. The hollandaise on my salmon benedict was fantastic, and the eggs were poached beautifully. My companion had scrambled eggs and bacon (yawn!) - he said they were quite good. I recommend this place wholeheartedly.
Food was excellent - I liked the fixed price menu options.
Unfortunately the prix fixe menu was too limited and we did not enjoy our meal.
Food was bland. Dessert was good. Kitchen took almost an hour for food sat inside but it was uncomfortable and cold.
Felt like I was on vacation while sipping a tropical martini on their beautiful patio (partially enclosed). Great option for outdoor dining! Generous portions for the fixed menu!
Prefix menu because of Covid. Food was ok. Very disappointed after wanting to come here for years.
The food was very mediocre and totally overpriced. Seating outside with malfunctioning heaters. In essence a very bad experience
We were seated at a table that was freezing cold. We had to keep our cotes on the entire time. We complained several times, but that as glibly told where the cold air was coming from—as if that knowing that information was a solution. We asked for heat several times. We should have demanded another table, but assumed all the tables were cold too, until late in the meal when we saw they had taken their coats off. We are not cold natured, but rather hot natured. So the cold was truly so. It made for a terrible experience.
Always love Le Colonial. The atmosphere is always beautiful. The menu is pared down and they weren’t able to deliver the sea bass that I wanted. What I got was a shrimp noodle dish that was salty.
Let me preface this with saying that I realize that restaurants are struggling due to Covid-19 restrictions, but... You can't limit your menu to a prix-fix menu without notifying you customers first. Since it was Friday my wife couldn't eat meat and there was only 2 items that she could eat, a salad and a fried prawn dish (please don't call it this as they seemed to be frozen shrimp that I could buy at a grocery store and make in my oven). My steak noodle dish was decent, but asked to cook medium rare and came out slightly more than medium. Service and drinks were good and although their little courtyard was nice, they kept the front door open and you could smell the smoke from the manager wafting up into the restaurant every time he took a break. The deserts were a hostess cupcake like flourless cake and a poor representation of a wedding catered cheesecake with gelatinous papaya on top cut into a 2" square to boot. This being said the 4 drinks and menu items as described cost over $260 and we would have been better served by ordering a pizza and a $200 cabernet. We've eaten at the LeColonial in Chicago and it was fantastic, although before Covid, but this place fall short and should at least change their menu on their website to reflect what you can actually order.
Dinner was delicious. Wish I found this place sooner.
Excellent food and service. Great choice for outdoor dining. Excellent use of of the space. Felt very safe.
Delicious food and very nice service.
Great value. Waiters are very attentive. Patio location is a nice touch.
Beautiful outdoor dining situation, my friends and I had a great dining experience here. Get the brussel sprouts
Always love the amazing food and ambiance at Le Colonial! They never disappoint.
The food was absolutely amazing!! Original dishes, super fresh and natural ingredients. The patio was super cute!! Really great experience overall :)
I've been waiting to come here for a long time and I am glad I did. The service was great. I had the crab rolls, the ribs, shaken beef and the lemongrass chicken and all the dishes were really great. I had a great time. The ambiance and the restaurant decor are wonderful and its very different than others in SF so I felt like I was in another city or place.
Good place to eat , great environment
Very enjoyable place, great food in a french colonial setting
After all these years, the food is better than ever.
Great dinner with excellent service and great food in a beautiful setting everything we had was very good, the Banana Leaves Wrapped Sea Bass was outstanding .
The menu is very short and does not have the selections we have grown fond of over time. We wanted a special dining experience but some other customers were in shorts, flip flops and tee shirts. The waiter was just an order taker who didn't offer any description of the menu items.
Excellent service, delicious food and lovely outdoor terrace which provided a safe space to once again dine out!
We loved the beautiful setting of the restaurant and appreciated that parking is available on the property. The staff couldn’t have been any better and kinder. The quality of the food was outstanding! This is a true San Francisco jewel.
Le Colonial had great service paired with great food, and a great drink selection. I honestly forgot how good this place is!
I went during the happy hour and had some noodle, summer rolls and coconut shrimp. They were all amazing. I had it with sparkling rose....delicious.
Love this Vietnamese Restaurant & you will also.
Fabulous food and ambience. Our server was fantastic. Loved the wine selection.
Enjoyable! Great service and everyone said their food was delicious. Just disappointed about the two bottle cork limit for a party of 6 celebrating a birthday.
This place has been around for a long time and I usually eat at the bar on the top floor. This was my first time eating in the restaurant on the main level. The food surpassed my expectations. Service was pretty good too. I will definitely be back.
Great experience. Good wine, good food, good service. Hit all the marks.
Wonderful food and service. Location slightly off track but don’t be put off.
A must visit restaurant.
