Let me preface this with saying that I realize that restaurants are struggling due to Covid-19 restrictions, but... You can't limit your menu to a prix-fix menu without notifying you customers first. Since it was Friday my wife couldn't eat meat and there was only 2 items that she could eat, a salad and a fried prawn dish (please don't call it this as they seemed to be frozen shrimp that I could buy at a grocery store and make in my oven). My steak noodle dish was decent, but asked to cook medium rare and came out slightly more than medium. Service and drinks were good and although their little courtyard was nice, they kept the front door open and you could smell the smoke from the manager wafting up into the restaurant every time he took a break. The deserts were a hostess cupcake like flourless cake and a poor representation of a wedding catered cheesecake with gelatinous papaya on top cut into a 2" square to boot. This being said the 4 drinks and menu items as described cost over $260 and we would have been better served by ordering a pizza and a $200 cabernet. We've eaten at the LeColonial in Chicago and it was fantastic, although before Covid, but this place fall short and should at least change their menu on their website to reflect what you can actually order.
Dinner was delicious. Wish I found this place sooner.
Excellent food and service. Great choice for outdoor dining. Excellent use of of the space. Felt very safe.
Delicious food and very nice service.
Great value. Waiters are very attentive. Patio location is a nice touch.
Beautiful outdoor dining situation, my friends and I had a great dining experience here. Get the brussel sprouts
Always love the amazing food and ambiance at Le Colonial! They never disappoint.
The food was absolutely amazing!! Original dishes, super fresh and natural ingredients. The patio was super cute!! Really great experience overall :)
I've been waiting to come here for a long time and I am glad I did. The service was great. I had the crab rolls, the ribs, shaken beef and the lemongrass chicken and all the dishes were really great. I had a great time. The ambiance and the restaurant decor are wonderful and its very different than others in SF so I felt like I was in another city or place.
Good place to eat , great environment
Very enjoyable place, great food in a french colonial setting
After all these years, the food is better than ever.
Great dinner with excellent service and great food in a beautiful setting everything we had was very good, the Banana Leaves Wrapped Sea Bass was outstanding .
The menu is very short and does not have the selections we have grown fond of over time. We wanted a special dining experience but some other customers were in shorts, flip flops and tee shirts. The waiter was just an order taker who didn't offer any description of the menu items.
Excellent service, delicious food and lovely outdoor terrace which provided a safe space to once again dine out!
We loved the beautiful setting of the restaurant and appreciated that parking is available on the property. The staff couldn’t have been any better and kinder. The quality of the food was outstanding! This is a true San Francisco jewel.
Le Colonial had great service paired with great food, and a great drink selection. I honestly forgot how good this place is!
I went during the happy hour and had some noodle, summer rolls and coconut shrimp. They were all amazing. I had it with sparkling rose....delicious.
Love this Vietnamese Restaurant & you will also.
Fabulous food and ambience. Our server was fantastic. Loved the wine selection.
Enjoyable! Great service and everyone said their food was delicious. Just disappointed about the two bottle cork limit for a party of 6 celebrating a birthday.
This place has been around for a long time and I usually eat at the bar on the top floor. This was my first time eating in the restaurant on the main level. The food surpassed my expectations. Service was pretty good too. I will definitely be back.
Great experience. Good wine, good food, good service. Hit all the marks.
Wonderful food and service. Location slightly off track but don’t be put off.
A must visit restaurant.
My fav restaurant in the world 😎👍🦓
We love this restaurant. Food, staff and atmosphere all rate at top of San Francisco cuisine
Oustanding cocktails, food and service. Wonderful ambiance
Great place great food!
Le Colonial is one of the most exceptional restaurants in San Francisco. Food, ambiance and service are top-notch. You feel physically transported back to another era and time gets to stand still while you enjoy a lovely meal with people you enjoy spending time with! Recommend it highly for a special date-night, time spent with your grown children and anyone who wants a beautiful dining experience in SF.
Great place. Tucked away and private we had an awesome time and meal here.
Food was good. Filet (luc Lac) was ok. Sea Bass was excellent but quantity was minimal. The garlic noodles and fried rice were fantastic and so we're the desserts. Appetizers (crab cakes and pot stickers) were ok. Ambiance and decor are fantastic. The restaurant is however packed and space between seats were too tight especially for the price. The band upstairs had a super fun band. Service was very good. Overall very good but not as good as seven years ago or the Chicago version.
Nice restaurant and food was good. People in there were not loud like so many other restaurants nowadays in SF. Service was a little slow.
There was a large crowd waiting at the front when I got there (it was Valentine’s Day). I didn’t mind waiting till we’ll after my reservation time for the table, but I feel that someone should have explained what was going on. For at least 20 minutes, no explanation was given.
Waitress was great.
Great date restaurant. Very crowded, but it was Valentine’s Day.
Worst Valentines Day dinner ever out of 20 years worth of them. Getting a table, even with a reservation, was akin to getting a seat on the last US plane out of Vietnam when the war was ending. Awful, awful, awful. Ruined our Valentines Day for the low price of $250.
They took too many reservations for Valentine’s Day and made it a horrific experience and ruined what should have need a manically evening.
Valentine Day Massacre- I’ve been an Open Table member for more than 15 years and I’ve never seen such a distaster of a restaurant.
After being there for an hour and a half and still not getting g our entrees we went to another restaurant.
Before we did I shook the sad excuse for a manger named Howard and thanked him for the meal we never had.
The restaurant was packed (it was Valentines Day evening) so the staff was a bit overwhelmed. The wait for our table was a bit longer than I would have liked, but smaller parties were seated quickly. The food was amazing’ I highly recommend this restaurant.
Dishes were mediocre (sea bass and lemon grass chicken). Neither had much flavor. Dishes took an extremely long time to come out. Our waiter did bring us complimentary champagne and a dessert, but in the end the cost for the meal was not worth it.
Went here for Valentine’s Day. Arrived at 7:35pm for a 7:30pm reservation. Was asked to get a drink while we waited for a table. Got a drink, went back downstairs, got seated. Ordered a bottle of champagne and an appetizer.
Appetizer was served within 10 minutes, but then we waited over an HOUR for our entrees. Never once, did the waiter check in with us or explain the delay.
After becoming frustrated, we saw the table next to us also didn’t have their food. Apparently they had a 7:15 reservation.
We looked around and NO ONE had food.
We cancelled our entrees, asked for the check, was comped our appetizer and we left. Got burritos on the way home from “dinner.”
Will never plan a dinner on Valentines again.
