Wonderful meal with my husband for his birthday. Everything was extremely delicious and they were incredibly gracious about accommodating my food sensitivities/dietary restrictions. We’ve had many great meals here now. Highly recommend.

The food, ambience and service were great. The chefs selection for appetizers for two was fantastic, as were both Le Colonial specialties-steamed sea bass and filet mignon cubes. There was also a wide variety of choices on the wine list.

Amazing food, attentive service, perfect for a wonderful dinner before the theater. Would be great for a romantic dinner or a special occasion too. Beautiful atmosphere can actually have a conversation too. Loved it!

This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. It's tucked away in Union Square and has a great more casual lounge as well as a more fine dining experience. A great spot to have a private event too!

The restaurant is nicely decorated. The service was excellent. The food was exquisite and arrived within a good time.
The servers helped accommodate one of our friends birthday which was really appreciated.
Overall, a very pleasurable experience.

I booked an 8:45 reservation on a rainy night and was told it’d be a few minutes. A few minutes turned in to over 40 minutes. We were finally seated at 9:25 pm with no compensation. Usually there’d be at least a free drink or an appetizer with a wait that long. Food was good. Service once seated was good. The host really dropped the ball though with an inaccurate wait time and no attempt to make up for the inconvenience

I keep coming back because of the combination of the lounge upstairs for a drink before dinner or music after and an excellent restaurant. Service is really good.

We always come here for dinner before going to the Geary Street Theater. Because it's just a few blocks from the theater, we only need to park once..and we always find free on-the-street parking! We were greeted and then seated right away. The waiter asked if we wanted drinks...and brought a wine for my husband to taste. We started our meal by sharing the seafood potstickers...YUM! Then, my husband had the fish in the banana leaves and I had the appetizer crab cakes for my main course.....and we shared the coconut rice. Another YUM! For dessert we shared two scoops of ice cream....one more YUM! The service was very friendly and helpful...and we had plenty of time to walk to the theater.

We had the shrimp curry and the sea bass poached in banana leaves and the garlic green beans. Service was exceptional, and the food and ambiance were both creative and memorable. Gluten free non-meat guidance and accomodation was seamless. Would definitely come back.

Great lamb chops. Papaya salad was average. Service was excellent when we first got there, but slowly deteriorated once more diners arrived. No excuse for why the main course took so long to arrive.

Le Colonial makes you feel like you’re sitting in Vietnam during pre-communist era. The food is excellent, service is very attentive, and ambience is that of a very happening place. I would highly recommend the beef stew which is flavorful and lighter than the typical American version. Tuna tartare is excellent too but our waiter mixed the dish without asking for permission.

Starting at the bar with Happy Hour was excellent; then leisurely moved to our table downstairs. The noise level was high, but on a table for 2 was manageable, with a bigger table it would have been a challenge. Our waiter was good, not great. The food was excellent. I will certainly be coming back.

The decor really looked like an older Vietnamese/French sort of place - at least what I would think of one. It's tucked out of the way, so a little hard to get to - given it's in the middle of the city. They do have valet which I'd recommend

Great dinner last night. Haven’t been here for over 10 years and just as good as I remember it. Ambiance is really pretty and great service. Yummy cocktails. I had the Le Colonial. For dinner, we shared an order of the spring rolls and we bothered ordered the banana leaf wrapped sea bass which was spectacular. Won’t be so long til my next visit!

I wouldn't know where to begin: fantastic food, wonderful service, pleasant ambiance - like a trip back in time with all the modern comforts. Try the coconut crusted mini Dungeness Crab cakes with mint and cilantro aioli appetizer - delicious! If you haven't been, go.

Very nice ambiance. Good for date nights. This place is located privately on a cul de sac .The first level is good for business meetings and the second level is perfect for celebrating couples events. The live music is just perfectly situated at the corner of the bar and separated from the dining area so you can still have and hear your conversation with your date. Food - it depends on what you order. The Salmon and Ahi Tuna is fine but nothing special. The service of the wait staff is excellent. Overall - nice experience. Will come back to try other menus next time.

Lekker eten.

The place is a bit out of the way- down an alley of sorts, but once inside it is a nice space. There is an outdoor area that would be inviting in a warmer evening. Ordered the rack of lamb for two and the sea bass - both delicious and well prepared. With Brussels sprouts and coconut rice, it was a very nice meal for the three of us.

We've dined at all of the Le Colonial locations and this was our third time here in San Francisco. Our expectations were high having experienced incredible food and service on every prior occasion. Our order came to the table and asked if we were ready to order. No questions about wine or cocktails. We ordered cocktails- my favorite Ah Nhi's Gost and my husband a Manhattan. Cocktails took a while but they were excellent. At that time we also ordered an appetizer. Our waiter, Carlos, seemed to disappear frequently and for long lengths of time. At his next trip to the table we ordered our entrees- I ordered the sea bass and my husband ordered the grilled salmon. Our appetizer plates were not removed until our entrees arrived. We were out of water and wanted to order another cocktail but, again, our waiter had disappeared. He did not reappear until our entrees were almost gone. We asked for water and another round of cocktails. It became apparent to us that the bus staff were focused on clearing and re-setting tables and did not assist with clearing plates or refreshing water. Finally, we had a bit of difficulty getting our check because our waiter was nowhere to be found. Again, the food was delicious and everything we hoped for. But the lack of service really had a negative impact on our dining experience.
