Le Colonial - SF Ratings and Reviews
Very nice ambiance. Good for date nights. This place is located privately on a cul de sac .The first level is good for business meetings and the second level is perfect for celebrating couples events. The live music is just perfectly situated at the corner of the bar and separated from the dining area so you can still have and hear your conversation with your date. Food - it depends on what you order. The Salmon and Ahi Tuna is fine but nothing special. The service of the wait staff is excellent. Overall - nice experience. Will come back to try other menus next time.
Lekker eten.
The place is a bit out of the way- down an alley of sorts, but once inside it is a nice space. There is an outdoor area that would be inviting in a warmer evening. Ordered the rack of lamb for two and the sea bass - both delicious and well prepared. With Brussels sprouts and coconut rice, it was a very nice meal for the three of us.
We've dined at all of the Le Colonial locations and this was our third time here in San Francisco. Our expectations were high having experienced incredible food and service on every prior occasion. Our order came to the table and asked if we were ready to order. No questions about wine or cocktails. We ordered cocktails- my favorite Ah Nhi's Gost and my husband a Manhattan. Cocktails took a while but they were excellent. At that time we also ordered an appetizer. Our waiter, Carlos, seemed to disappear frequently and for long lengths of time. At his next trip to the table we ordered our entrees- I ordered the sea bass and my husband ordered the grilled salmon. Our appetizer plates were not removed until our entrees arrived. We were out of water and wanted to order another cocktail but, again, our waiter had disappeared. He did not reappear until our entrees were almost gone. We asked for water and another round of cocktails. It became apparent to us that the bus staff were focused on clearing and re-setting tables and did not assist with clearing plates or refreshing water. Finally, we had a bit of difficulty getting our check because our waiter was nowhere to be found. Again, the food was delicious and everything we hoped for. But the lack of service really had a negative impact on our dining experience.
We were attended gracefully at the door by Nur almost immediately upon arrival. He quickly confirmed our reservation and escorted us to an ideal table for two. He took our coats to the checkroom and returned with our tag just after our server, Kevin, had asked about our water preference and was leaving the table. Not long after a busser, Ruhm, arrived with the bottled water. Kevin then took our orders and we began a delightful dining experience replete with old style service in a classy and discrete manner that is all too rare these days. The food arrived in an orderly way that did not make us feel rushed but it seemed that as soon as we finished one course the next arrived in seamless procession. Eric assisted as well and was truly professional and made us feel welcomed and appreciated. Each dish was delicious, balanced seasoning and cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back.
Very good food. Some might complain not as spicy (hot) as some Vietnamese restaurants, but the flavors were complex and wonderfull. It was wonderfully quiet on a Sunday when we went. I have friends who play music there on Monday-Thursdays. Those nights are a little more lively. They have an impressive wine list, we stuck to the cocktails which were very good.
Lovely food, perhaps not totally authentic Vietnamese cuisine, but interesting and delicious. The Brussels sprouts were perfection! The service was extraordinarily good; we had a few limitations due to timing of our dinner, and the staff couldn't have been more accommodating. Nice location near Union Square!
This place is over-rated. I found the menu and flavors limited, a bit tired. Overall, Le Colonial fails to deliver a unique gastronomic experience the way other places honing on the flavors of Viet Nam (Brodard Chateau, as an example) do. What a disappointment!
Just had a wonderful dinner at Le Colonial! We ordered the Chef's sampler for appetizers, which included two different rolls, dumplings, tuna and pork ribs, all of them were very good, each with a special flavor. For main we had the lamb ribs and a side of fried rice; the lamb was so soft and the flavours were amazing! Finally we had the layer crepe cake, a bit sweet but with an espresso you have the perfect combination. Definitely a place that I would recommend and would love to visit again!
We were referred to this place by the hotel staff. Never would we normally walk in a small dark alley and we had second thoughts, but we are glad we took the concierge word for it's worth. What a fantastic experience. Great food, excellent service and a true fun place. It transports you to another time in another location, we loved it.
We enjoyed a spectacular meal at Le Colonial to celebrate our engagement. The restaurant made it an especially memorable evening and treated us to glasses of champagne and a great corner table. Highly recommend the brussels sprouts! Thanks so much for being so gracious!
