It could be that they’re still getting up to speed after the shutdown, but the service was slow and food was disappointing, but the others seemed to like what they ordered.

This is our first time to this restaurant. when we walked in, we were confused to where was the front desk but found it eventually. We booked outdoor setting online but leaded to indoor setting. We were ok with it but the indoor setting was kind of dark. If you could pick, you would want to pick outdoor setting.

Since this was our first time, we pick family style meal even it was just two of us. We liked Crispy Crab Rolls and Green Papaya Salad very much for the first course. For second course, Chilean Sea Bass was excellent. Lemongrass Chicken was ok but White Prawns Garlic Noodles was disappointment. The noodle is soggy. For side dishes, fried rice was ok. Brussels Sprouts was interesting flavored. The dessert was excellent including chocolate cake and banana cake. we loved it! if you never try it before, it would be interesting to try it out. It has parking lot next door but cost $6 per hour

Celebrating my wife’s birthday. Due to Covid it was a reduced experience with less customers less noise but that was OK. The appetizers were absolutely fantastic the entrées were good possibly a little bit overcooked. Overall very well worth the money and a great evening. Romantic & intimate.

The food was delicious. The place is exceptionally beautiful indoors and on its covered terrace. They moved us twice when we weren't comfortable, finding that indoor table. This place is special.

I look forward to visiting again after the C19 restrictions are better lifted. I felt like we were dining in a hospital cafeteria - with the outfits the waiters were wearing and the plate we were given upon checking in that outlined the rules of dining at the restaturant. It was classless to have a warning at the top of their menu stating we only were alotted 1.5 hours to dine at the restarant, and to be aware of their table turning restrictions. They also charged my card to simply make a reservation for 2 although it said it needed a card for parties bigger than 5 on open table. Honestly, I was kind of put off even before dining there. We walked there and had to pass several homeless begging in the cute alleyway. The food is very good though. Not sure if we’ll return.

The menu is very limited offering only a fixed menu with just 3 or 4 entrees. The food taste wasn’t great but ok.. I remember before covid, the restaurant was very good.
I tried it twice in a month and both times the food was ok. One time the service was miserable since they forgot about our food until 40 minutes later. The service was fine this recent time.

This is a classic SF restaurant at this point - been there in its almost private inner block enclave on Cosmo Pl. ever since the location was the historic Trade Vic's. It is to pho what Julia Child was to a McRoyale. I will enjoy seeing the menu grow back to its original pre-pandemic range. There was literally nothing on it (and there is not now) that is not truly wonderful. The prix fixe approach has some flexibility, and I was even permitted to substitute my dessert for some delicious Brussels sprouts. They, my Shaken Beef and the green papaya salad are all to be re commended. The ambience is still transporting to another time and place, the service was just right, and the bar has my brand of Irish whiskey. What could be better?

Overall good place. I think their food lacked authentic Vietnamese flavors. The flavors seemed muted and I wanted them to sing more. The service was good but could have explained the menu and been more attentive to drink refills. The party I was with, we ordered almost everything - seabass, curry chicken, shaking beef, the steak with fries, and all the sides. I would say the upcharge for the dishes were not worth it for the shaking beef and seabass. The appetizers for the papaya salad and crab rolls were 5 stars. The chocolate cake was delicious but the champagne cake was dry. Overall, I might go here with an older crowd because it's more traditional service but overall wasn't thoroughly impressed with the food.

The Prix Fixe was somewhat disappointing compared to our pre-COVID dining experiences.

Crispy Crab Rolls and Green Papaya Salad were tasty first courses.
Second courses, on the other hand were not up to their standards. Only Shaken Beef was super delicious. Steamed Sea Bass (+$15 up charge) and Lemongrass Chicken were disappointingly very dry! White Prawns Garlic Noodles was just average. The Crispy Brussel Sprouts were disappointingly not crispy at all!
Dessert choices were reduced to 2 only (Flourless Chocolate Cake and Strawberry Sorbet) were bang average.

Service was still up to La Colonial’s standard.

My husband and I have been to restaurant 4 times. We thought the food was better a while back. Also, we thought the pricing was way too high. It is one thing to have a priced fix three course dinner at $45.00 but then to have three of the items at $15.00 extra was too much. Then another $5.00 for a side dish. Not worth the price.

Although we had a reservation and arriving on time, we were not seated until 45 minutes after our reserved time. We were told they were a little behind schedule. The quality of the food made up for our late seating.

We dined there after they reopened on Covid times. They were running a prix fixe menu, which I totally understand from a business perspective. However, all but the chicken and tofu entrees required a $7-$15 up charge, which kind of defeats the purpose of prix fixe in my mind. Service was very friendly, albeit slow. Apps and entrees were good but not mind blowing. Desserts were great! Good ambiance. Overall enjoyed the experience but I’m not sure I’d return. Maybe post-Covid.

Quite terrible meal. No option but prix-fixe, so you are trapped with the overly sweet, completely uninspiring food for 3 courses. We watched as they continually brought food to the wrong tables. The wait between courses was lengthy; we were there for almost three hours. The food at any hole-in-the-wall Vietnamese restaurant would be a vast improvement over what we ate at Le Colonial.

Food was well prepared, but slow to come out. I love Le Colonial so this review is skewed. The space is beautiful and really interesting. Walking through the courtyard into the dining room is a great experience. The wait staff is very professional. The server even comped a drink because the kitchen fell behind. The hollandaise on my salmon benedict was fantastic, and the eggs were poached beautifully. My companion had scrambled eggs and bacon (yawn!) - he said they were quite good. I recommend this place wholeheartedly.

We were seated at a table that was freezing cold. We had to keep our cotes on the entire time. We complained several times, but that as glibly told where the cold air was coming from—as if that knowing that information was a solution. We asked for heat several times. We should have demanded another table, but assumed all the tables were cold too, until late in the meal when we saw they had taken their coats off. We are not cold natured, but rather hot natured. So the cold was truly so. It made for a terrible experience.

Always love Le Colonial. The atmosphere is always beautiful. The menu is pared down and they weren’t able to deliver the sea bass that I wanted. What I got was a shrimp noodle dish that was salty.

Let me preface this with saying that I realize that restaurants are struggling due to Covid-19 restrictions, but... You can't limit your menu to a prix-fix menu without notifying you customers first. Since it was Friday my wife couldn't eat meat and there was only 2 items that she could eat, a salad and a fried prawn dish (please don't call it this as they seemed to be frozen shrimp that I could buy at a grocery store and make in my oven). My steak noodle dish was decent, but asked to cook medium rare and came out slightly more than medium. Service and drinks were good and although their little courtyard was nice, they kept the front door open and you could smell the smoke from the manager wafting up into the restaurant every time he took a break. The deserts were a hostess cupcake like flourless cake and a poor representation of a wedding catered cheesecake with gelatinous papaya on top cut into a 2" square to boot. This being said the 4 drinks and menu items as described cost over $260 and we would have been better served by ordering a pizza and a $200 cabernet. We've eaten at the LeColonial in Chicago and it was fantastic, although before Covid, but this place fall short and should at least change their menu on their website to reflect what you can actually order.
