It was our first visit and our party of four loved it!!!
Service was great also. Jed was great!
From the minute you walk in until the minute you leave, the experience is always wonderful. The service is five star, the food is unique and was very good. It’s a little gem in the city, so if you get a chance to go, I highly recommend it. We had the Seabass in banana leaves which was delicious, the garlic noodles and several of the other dishes. We’ll be back!!
Great experience. Food was amazing. Will definitely return for special occasions. It was raining on the night we went, but would like to sit outside on a night with nice weather.
Because of the ambience and the high prices on the menu, we were expecting something exquisite. The food was good, but not excellent. The soup, tasty but a bit too salty; the vegetables and sauce with my halibut dish were delightful, but the fish itself was dry; my husband's steamed bass in banana leaf was the only dish that came close to expectations. If I were to rate the restaurant on the personnel alone, I'd give it top marks. They were courteous, friendly, accommodating....
This was a special experience. The food - all of it - was spectacular. Best crab cakes I’ve ever had. Everyone loved their dishes. The service was equally terrific. Attentive but low key, no request was a problem, water was kept filled, questions were promptly answered, timing of delivery and presentation was perfect. We LOVED it and will be sure to make Le Colonial a stop any time we are in the area.
The food was amazing. The place is beautiful. Maybe it was because we weren’t dressed up (jeans and jacket), but after we told them we’re cold and had been hiking all day they sat us towards the front door in a beautiful window with a crazy cold draft. I spent most of the dinner trying to stay warm. The food was incredible however. I’ll definitely bring visiting friends here for the experience :)
Food & service are always exceptional! My friend with thier friends & me will always come back !!
We have enjoyed dining at Le Colonial many times. Our last dinner there was delicious! We enjoyed the Sea Bass wrapped in banana leaves, the stir fried brussels sprouts, the noodles with Dungeness Crab, and the Pot Stickers. The only disappointing part was the table where they sat us. There were many other great tables available but we were told those were all reserved, even though most remained empty 2 hours later when we left. I hope the restaurant staff is able to get a better handle on managing reservations and seating.
Splendid upscale Vietnamese Restaurant. Excellent quality ingredients and presentation from the chef and lovely cocktail compilation from the bar. We ordered the appetizer sampler which was AH-MAZING. I ordered the chicken curry which 9/10 but the prawns noodles were INCREDIBLE!! Would recommend 100%!! Big thank to the Algerian/French waiter who was impeccable in his service and so kind.
A Favorite place in sf, absolutely enjoyable. Highly recommend
Great place for that business dinner with a flare for good mix of tastes. There was something for everyone, vegetarian to meat lovers. Timing of the dishes spaced well to allow us to share in some great wines and attentive staff. Still a favorite for the mix of french and asian.
Perfect table. Delicious food!
My favorite restaurant in San Francisco. The crab rolls appetizer should not be missed!
Amazing ambience, music, bar and a place for business dinners. It really has everything you need from a romantic dinner to client entertainment.
Fantastic experience!
Celebrated an early thanksgiving with my family here. As always, the service was excellent. The fish in banana leaf and fried spring rolls were delicious, accompanied with coconut rice and followed by coffee filled donuts. The cocktails were pretty and tasty. All in all a good dinner with great ambiance. This is one of my go to spots in SF for special occasions.
Food is getting inconsistent these days. Personally I'm not particularly fond of this season's side vegetable preparation with mango, pineapple, tamarind, etc. because I'm not a fan of sweet and sour sauces. The duck breast I had is also over cooked so it's chewy. The clay pot salmon is also underwhelming because the fish is overcooked but the sauce and flavors is not cooked through into the fish and guess what a sweet sauce again. It's sad to see the new chefs are adding so much sugar nowadays. The side dishes are delicious.
Nice atmosphere and wonderful service from Soledad
Food not as fresh and full of flavor as it could be
Excellent meal and service. Le Colonial is a gem!
Thank you for taking some of your valuable time to provide fellow consumers with your rich perspective. We appreciate the feedback and look forward to seeing you again soon.
The food and service was amazing! Highly recommend.
Consistent and delicious, great cocktails
An all around great experience in a delightful setting. The food was, as usual, excellent, except for my favorite garlic noodles which were not up to their typical standards.
Thank you for visiting with us. It is always pleasing when our customers elect to write a review so our future customers can see what we are all about… thank you. We appreciate your comments about our pricing, service and products.
Always great- impressive for our OOT guests.
The food was cold, service patchy and the noise is high. Won’t go there any more
Really great food in an awesome setting. It was a quite night as it was Halloween but will be back
I love Le Colonial!!! It’s definitely one of my favorite places in San Francisco. The Brussel sprouts are soooooo special!!! We also love the snapper and the sea bass. And make sure to save room for the dessert. The banana thing is to die for!!!
Le Colonial has been a must meal on each annual/semi-annual visit to San Francisco for the past 6 years.
Most disappointing experience this time. Ambience was wonderful as expected as we entered for a 8p Sunday evening reservation. Restaurant was packed mostly with ateendees from my own 8,000 person Surgical Congress. Disappointed that each speciality offering ordered would be reported as not available sequentially after order had been placed; understandable given the crowd size. Our real disappointment however was the absolute lack of the expected delicate Viatnamese flavors present in all of the three dishes shared by our party; this would extend even to the seafood fried rice. All food was reduced to the level of a take out menu from a small establishment in Chinatown. Le Colonial is now off my list.
Deliciously prepared, presented and tasting food. This is the fourth time I've been here and I've never been disappointed. Very elegant surroundings and feels like I would imagine a nice restaurant in colonial Vietnam would be.
Five colleagues and I walked to Le Colonial during a business trip. The restaurant was located down a side alley, so we laughed about it being "hidden" and it actually was a hidden gem. The servers were attentive, but gave us time to enjoy our conversation and meal. We all enjoyed an appetizer plate, drinks, and entrees that included lemongrass chicken, halibut, pork shoulder, prawns and garlic noodles, and fried rice. Everyone really enjoyed the experience. With tip, the meal was $502.

Very nice place to go to get away from the "city feel" and enjoy delicious food. Vietnamese food is a favorite of mine and this menu provides a lot of choices.
Thank you for selecting us and for revealing your positive view of our business with others. We strive to deserve accolades like yours every single day and we will never tire of hearing that we please our treasured customers and clientele
Le colonial remains my go-to restaurant. Never gets old and always intriguing and new discovery every time! Superb cocktails (my fav Ah Nhi’s ghoast) and try the sampler! Sea bass in banana wrap is tried and true dish. Papaya salad, spring rolls, are all elegantly made and spiced perfectly. And the green beans...
Such a unique and romantic atmosphere, a fantastic place to take your partner for date night...so many trendy restaurants nowadays are so loud and lit up like a warehouse, Le Colonial recreates the classic golden age experience with fresh, inspired recipes. And the cocktails are out of sight!
The food was pretty good considering Vietnamese food is so hard to find in the city, but the service was absolutely terrible! We were a group of 6 and the total meal took 3 hours (20 mins just to get the bill). Great ambiance and decent food, but disappointed by service .
Definitely recommend
What a terrific review. You covered virtually every aspect of what we think a customer should be evaluating when choosing a business such as ours. We appreciate your feedback and look forward to seeing you again soon. Thanks again
Really authentic looking decor. The food was wonderful. The red snapper served whole, lightly battered, fried, and seasoned with lemongrass and a ginger was superb. Flaky but never oily. Service was spot on. The wine list ample and affordable. Overall a delightful evening.
Thank you for your kind words about Le Colonial. It is always a great pleasure to hear that we are serving our customers well. We look forward to serving you again soon. Gratefully,Le Colonial
Worst service with good food.
Very disappointed. We waited for an hour for appetizers and another hour for our main courses. The restaurant was not busy at all. And I now know why.
Great food great service we had a blast a lot of fun

We always come here for dinner before going to the Geary St. Theater to see an A.C.T. play. The service here is excellent, welcoming and helpful. We shared the shrimp potstickers, as our appetizer, and they were delicious. My husband had a seafood curry that he said was very tasty. I had the crabcake appetizer as my main course and the crabcakes were yummy. We shared the coconut rice. For dessert, we shared two scoops of ice cream. My only complaint is that the dining room is way too dark. I had to use my flashlight to read the menu. I highly recommend this restaurant for delicious food and wonderful service.
I see that you visited our business last week. We appreciate your conveying thoughts with fellow consumers who hopefully might be our future satisfied customers as well.
