I was very disappointed with the seriously overcooked halibut. It was virtually inedible.
Would it have been acceptable to complain?
The rest of the food was fine. I have always enjoyed this restaurant in the past.

We went for Mother’s Day. The food was absolutely amazing and the server was there whenever we needed her. It was a great experience.

Tasty and interesting food, decent service. Dessert was slow to arrive and probably the least inspired menu selections

Food serving are meager at best, prices are very high for what you are served.
Waitress was trying to hurry us out . . .
Limited menu, description like the food served leaves lots to be bothered.
Drinks and wine are over priced!
Not coming back, will go back to Jack Astor’s or Milestones

Always a great place to enjoy a meal. The special soup of the day - potato & clam - was a disappointment . Very peppery which overwhelmed the potato & clam. I should have had the French onion soup. An unusual happening here for such a good restaurant but I'll be back.

A disappointing lunch. Salad was lacklustre. Duck was greasy. Too expensive, given mediocre quality. It is a beautiful space and the service is friendly. Need to up the game folks!

The service was excellent. We had wonderful cocktails and the meal was delicious. What a wonderful way to celebrate my daughter completing her first year. Second time for me and they did not disappoint.

Amazing service by Michelle. Trusted her to pair the wine and food, she did an amazing job. She even found a cheese we loved and added it to the charcuterie plate for us. Fantastic evening!

It was a special occasion and we were very much looking forward to a wonderful meal. The restaurant came highly recommended. Unfortunately it took well over an hour for us to receive our main course and both of our dishes were greatly overcooked. We had such great expectations so we were very disappointed. Even though the management and the serving staff were well aware of the delay for our meals the customer service when dealing with this issue was lacking.
We had travelled from out of town to dine here. Unfortunate.

Chien noir is a consistent choice for a delicious comfortable French meal with locally sourced ingredients, and a professional vibe that is still true to casual Kingston life. It’s a true local hangout. Our table had steak frites, soup du hour, omelettes and the house salad and I’d recommend all of it. The bread was gobbled up too! Back soon...

I made reservation for 2 the night before. We arrived and were escorted to the very back table, next to the back door at table for 6. We asked to move and they accommodated us but we question why a reservation was placed there when patrons coming in off the street were better suited. The selection of food for ‘happy hour’ has changed dramatically since December and not for the better. Choices quite limited and on of them is fries. Just expect better things from Chien Noir

Really good spot. We were in Kingston for a family getaway and popped in for a dinner with our two young girls.

Loved the ambience, our waiter was very friendly and helpful, and the food was really good. We started with the tomato and cheese & french onion soup and both were great. Our mains (burger and tuna tartare) were also very well done. The poutine with duck confit was originally served cold, but they immediately got another piping hot order out that was very tasty. They even took a side off the bill without being asked to, even though we were more than happy with the second poutine.

They are happy to accommodate kids and have an extensive kids menu. Le Chien Noir is more of a romantic dinner, quiet adult gathering type of place than a family restaurant, so something to keep in mind (we were the only ones with kids).

I attended Le Chien Noir with my partner and two friends from out of town. We enjoyed oysters and appreciated the selection, although limited. The beer tartare was a hit, as was the seasonal salad. The mussels were just okay. The local beer was tasty and the wine selection was decent. Overall, we had a good experience with no major complaints about the food and drink, but the service was slow (from start to finish, and seemed out of touch).

Excellent food in a cozy environment. Had the valentines surf and turf meal special. It should be available on the main menu as it was spectacular!
Dorie is a great host and the waiting staff is attentive and friendly. My wife and I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who asks for a great place to eat in downtown Kingston.

We were there for Sunday lunch which is the brunch menu. I had the buckwheat wrap - the meat was very flavourful and made the dish. I wasn't so keen on the patato galette - came cold to the table and the potatoes were undercooked to my liking. The service was great, definitely still on our "go to" list.

The menu sticks to French cuisine. Trying something new, I had a Boar chop and it was delicious. The staff is attentive but doesn't hover. The cocktail selection was unique, I stuck with wine because I wasn't sure the flavors would meld well with the boar but it gave me something to look forward to coming back and trying.

I would definitely come back either to have a drink and a bite at the bar or for another special dinner.
