Despite making a reservation, we had to wait another 15minutues at the bar after being told our table still had guests eating at it. The hostess then immediately sat another table of two that came in after us. The first drink we ordered was prepared wrong, supposed to include fresh blackberries and basil, was served with a single floating blueberry.

When we were finally sat, our server was lovely and sadly had to apologize for everyone else. We were seated at a table at the back of the restaurant.

The charcuterie board was a great choice although one of our meat options was inedible. We looked past that because the cheese and onion jam was amazing.

We had ordered a variety of plates and asked them to be served as they were ready, having ordered charcuterie, oysters, and the salmon tartar. Had to wait an additional 10 minutes for the salmon to be served, at a point where we were already disappointed in our experience and eager to leave. Took one bite of the salmon and it was more than enough. I don’t know if it’s just bad quality fish or how they prepare it, but I politely told the waitress that I did not enjoy it at all when she asked. It sat untouched on the table, as well as on my bill.

The last thing I must mention is that we were sat in front of the dishwashing station and although there were doors, the servers consistantly left them open which resulted in my being sprayed with the dish water when the staff used the hose.

All in all pretty disappointing experience. Won’t be returning.

The Duck wings were so delicious ! I also ordered the special Caeser to drink it was the best I've ever had so flavourful. My main dish (mushroom risotto) could have had a little more flavour.

Two of us had the striploin. We compared notes at the end of the meal and agreed it was the toughest piece of meat we had ever eaten. At $39, it was extremely disappointing. One had liver and said it was good. One had duck confit and said it was fine. Atmosphere was good, waiter please try and not intrusive. But strip loin was really disappointing.

It took 1.5 hours to see any of the food. No complementary food was offered. A waiter never offered any help or suggestions to the menu. It was my first time there and I'm not coming back. Cheers.

The overall lunch experience was okay....the other people had a burger and two Reuben sandwiches and they were pleased with their meal. I, on the other hand, ordered the beet salad and was not impressed at all. The beets were tough and the choice of greens was poor. I order beet salads a lot at other places and am always happy with my choice. I could not believe that was a $14.00 salad!!!

It was far too expensive for what it was. Two guests, two soups and sandwiches, two desserts, and two pops $57.00. The soup was leek and potato and had a chicken broth base, but it was full of safe. So poultry seasoning or herbs de provence was probably used. It gave the soup a vile flavour. Unfortunately you either like sage or you don't. It nearly ruined my lunch. The tiny little piece of cheese cake for $11.00 was also way over priced. The chicken salad sandwich had a nice flavour. The staff was lovely.

Our server was attentive and helpful. The special of scallops and cauliflower risotto was delicious, although I felt it was over-priced for two scallops. The salad de Maison was large and flavourful. The lemon meringue tart was a great dessert choice. The lemon was a bit runny but still very good.

The food was very good. As was the quality and service. However, there were very few vegetarian options, and only one pseudo veg option for main course (tuna nicoise) so my choices were limited.

Loved the food! My only problem was what to choose! But by far my favourite dish offered is the beef tartare so please never get rid of it! We sat at the back near the kitchen which was nice and enjoying to watch the chefs at work. 10/10 will be back

My wife and I enjoyed the striploin steaks; very generous portions. The black bean soup was hearty, with a touch of heat to complement the stock. The gentleman that was our server was prompt and courteous. Overall, we would recommend this restaurant to our friends and family.

Was excited to visit for the first time for the Febulicious special, as this place has been on my "must go" list of restaurants for a while. But was very disappointed with the food will not be going back! My boyfriend ordered the french onion soup, the lamb, and the creme brûlée. I got the french onion soup, mushroom bourguignon and the flourless chocolate torte. We were expecting to love the food and also ordered a bottle of wine. The restaurant was gorgeous and our server was great and attentive. The soups were good, and the desserts were okay, but our mains were TERRIBLE! They came cold, first of all, and the lamb was not seasoned at all and did not taste like anything except straight up meat-- the little bit of gnocchi it came with was the only thing my boyfriend ended up eating. The mushroom bourguignon was the worst meal I've ever had at a nice restaurant-- weird textures, flavours that did not go together, rock-hard "chips" mixed in, etc. We literally pushed our food around on our plate, nibbled a little, and gave up on it, not even getting to-go boxes-- and we were hungry coming in! The best thing I ate all night was the bread with the house butter. Later, I had terrible stomach pains as well and I'm not sure if it was related to the food or not but I suspect it was. Everything I've heard about the restaurant was so positive and the reviews are all so great that I was truly shocked and disappointed. For spending $130 on a celebratory dinner for two, I was embarrassed to have picked a place with food we hated so much. Would've been better off going any one of the dozens of cheaper restaurants in Kingston. Maybe this is an experience unique to their Febulicious menu, but beware!

We have always enjoyed Le Chien Noir. On a Tuesday night in February, noise was tolerable as it was not busy. The food was very good and our waiter was very friendly, but we were puzzled that the service was so slow. A 3-course meal took 2 hours. That was OK while catching up with a friend, but the bench seats did become uncomfortable and the gaps between courses were disappointing.

We are locals and Chien Noir is a favourite spot to relax over reliably good food and wine. This time, one of us had the duck confit and one the flatiron steak. Both were excellent.

My husband and I always go here it’s our very favourite restaurant!!! Unfortunately our last visit our waiter came over and told us right off the hop that there was another booking coming in a hour and a half so we had to be quick...sorta left a bad vibe through our dinner. But the food was still amazing!

Took our niece (who is attending Queens) out for lunch...my husband and she had some soup to start - it came out quickly and was well received. Our mains however, took forever!! Frustrating when the resto wasn't that busy. When they finally arrived...my Beet & Black Bean Burger (on a Vegan bun) was out of this world! and the sandwiches (Ruben & Roast Beef) looked fantastic as well! Thank you for an enjoyable lunch - other than the hiccup of timing - it was a great experience! When we visit Kingston again - we'll be back!!

This is one of my favourite restaurants. When I visit my family in Kingston we always try to have a night to enjoy the delicious food. The charcuterie and oysters are always fresh but my go to is the tuna tartare! It’s also a great spot for picky eaters, they can experience a delicious meal while the foodie in the family also enjoys their meal.
