Le Canard Enchaine
Wonderful! Like being in Paris!! Great food, service! Can’t wait to go again
What a find, in an unlikely place! A great meal with imaginative dishes from start to finish. Exceptional service and genuine food enthusiasm from our server. A great vibe in the dining room. We'd make a trip to Kingston for a return meal.
Food and service and ambiance were outstanding. Worth the trip!
This gem in Kingston is worth a trip from the capital district. Impeccable service, top notch French cuisine and a cozy, dark interior make for an excellent dining experience.
It was delicious. Always a great meal. The service was perfect.
We had a GREAT dinner at Le Canard! Delicious french food, warm and welcoming staff and excellent deserts and wine menu. Totally exceeded our expectations!
Our favorite restaurant in Kingston.
The best French restaurant north of NYC. No one else comes close!
Looking for a quiet place to explore Hudson Valley.
Nice setting for an early dinner, and as born French, was happily surprised by the authenticity of the place!
Will go again.
We made an 80 mile trip specifically to go to this restaurant . The staff is wonderful they make u feel like family, especially Elizabeth.
The food is worth the trip.
We had a wonderful Easter dinner The snails and oysters were delicious. The rack of lamb and short ribs were outstanding. Our service was over the top as always. The evening was perfect. Thank you for being there for us to enjoy fabulous French cuisine.
Feels like you’re in a small town in France. Absolute must if you’re staying in Kingston. Come to stay for the steak frites and Bordeaux.
This place can really make you feel like you are in a Paris bistro. The food is classically french and very good. All the service staff appear to work very hard and the chef comes out to greet diners. It is a treat.
Always great food at this restaurant. I had the salmon with a sweet glaze and peppercorn crust over red cabbage - A perfect combination. My partner had his usual steak with pomme frites. The steak was cooked rare with herb butter. I especially appreciated the tarragon in the herbs.
Le Canard never disappoints. It is my go-to place for all special occasions.
our favorite spot- consistently wonderful - food this time was truly outstanding
First time for us and we had very high expectations. Everything was incredible - ambiance, apps, main course, dessert, drinks, and service. A very special experience that was well worth it.
I love the meal and it was a fun place to be. It was very crowded and I think the service suffered a tiny bit. Beautiful French food.
Loved the food and service. We had the duck as an entree and the classic escargot...manifique in every way. Merci beaucoup to this husband and wife team and all their staff !!
I was celebrating my birthday with my fiancee and could not have made a better choice. It's authentic French cuisine, the Magret de Canard was delicious and the Tarte Tatin (apple pie à la mode) was the best I've had outside of Paris. Merci mille fois
We enjoyed this spur of the moment visit to Les Canards. It was comfortably busy for a Friday night.
The arugula salad special was a generous portion. My partner said the fricassee of snails was delicious. As were our entrees, roast duck and grilled pork chop.
We were too full to add dessert. We just finished our bottle of Cotes du Rhône.
One of the best meals I've had in a long time... the menu is creative, with lots of typical French dishes. There were 3 of us; 2 of us ordered different salads as starters; both of us loved them. 2 ordered the rainbow trout; the sauce was out of this world! I had the 1/2 duck with berry sauce; superb! We almost skipped dessert, but finally decided to share the chocolate mousse cake 3 ways; it was fabulous. And since we were there very late, and the kitchen was ready to close, the restaurant just presented us with a second dessert (it would have been soggy if it had to wait until the next day); it was Mille feuilles pastry with a cream... and we managed to polish that off, too!
It's on the expensive side (but normal prices for fine dining restaurants in a major city); well worth a visit. I'd even go out of my way to eat there again.
Sadly, it took us 2 hours to receive our entrees. La canard has great food and A warm ambiance..but waiting two hours for your entree is simply unacceptable. We were given a gift certificate and two deserts to compensate for the poor service.
Food, service is always great!
Following nearly a week of renovating its kitchen to be best equipped and most efficient, Le Canard Enchainé is as good as one could ever expect, a piece of Paris transported to the Hudson Valley in upstate New York. From homemade soups without cream to delicious salads, delectable entrées and unforgettable desserts, Chef Jean-Jacques continues to outperform expectation and delivers haute cuisine at remarkable value.
This was our 7 visit and as always everything was perfect. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is charming and the service is hospitable without being intrusive. We drive 90+ miles to eat here - I think that tells you what we think of the place!
What a wonderful restaurant. We all felt transported to a different time and place. The staff was particularly lovely and the food delicious. We will definitely be back.
First-rate restaurant...an unexpected find. Worth a trip to Kingston.
We had dinner with friends of ours that we hadn’t seen in a while. Le Canard does not disappoint. The food and atmosphere is always good here.
Great ambience, warm and inviting, with a variety of French music playing in the background. Charming decor, lots of vintage Parisian memorabilia (artwork, photos, posters, newspapers, etc.) going back decades before I was even born. Food was very good overall, and there was a great selection of tempting specials. The fricassee of snails was particularly good: creamy, garlicky, with mushrooms that complemented the other flavors very nicely. The goat cheese cake over greens was also very good, as was the steak and frites. Good selection of wines, including a nice red Bordeaux available by the glass. My wife had the duck confit, which was done just right and delicious. Great service, in spite of the late hour.
Always a FABULOUS Experience!
Everything was Perfect
Our Waiter was amazing
It just does not get any better than Le Canard
We’ve loved this place for 20 years, though we don’t get here often as it is so far from our home. It still feels like an old neighborhood place in Paris.
Great Place run by a brilliant team! A must if you are in the area
Unbelieveable! Certainly worth the drive from Poughkeepsie. Everything was above excellent!! Irene H.
A truly first-rate experience, as always. Delicious confit & Red snapper prepared to perfection. Never leave without dessert!! Jean Jacques & his staff know how to make guests feel welcome.
I wish they had one vegetarian entree! My husband ordered the duck, he loved it. I had the soup and an appetizer which was good but would love to have some warm food though!
The best and most authentic French food. Excellent service and ambience. A necessary stop whenever in the Kingston area.
Something seriously went wrong the night of February 17th. We had an opentable reservation for 4, at 7PM. We arrived, at 7PM, and we were greeted by a very un-friendly young lady at the bar. There were clearly open tables, but we STOOD waiting for 20 minutes, all the time never asked if we wanted a drink or anything. The limited staff was scrambling, no one made eye contact with us, or made any apology for the wait. Finally we were seated, given a basket of bread, and menus. The menu was a limited Valentines menu, after the fact. We waited another 15 minutes without a seeing a server. We got up and left. The young woman that originally greeted us, again offered no excuses or an apology.
In the past I have had awesome experiences here. Obviously something really wrong was going. Maybe a Chef walked out, maybe they ran out of food???? Anyway, it will be hard to go back, I have really enjoyed it in the past. I'd love an explanation, I hope this isn't the sign of the times at Le Canard.
We enjoy many fine restaurants in both NYC and the Hudson Valley. Le Canard Enchaine is among our favorite (maybe our favorite!) in the Hudson Valley. We get there at least once a year, and always feel like we are special guests. And the people who cook and serve are not not just friendly, thir service is wonderful! On this recent visit, we each had a version of duck. Both the confit and the roast duck were delicious. My foie gras appetizer was the best I have ever had.
Well worth the price and the half our drive!
