Lovely French wine bar / restaurant. Tiny space, so had to watch the wine glasses on the table to make sure they don't get knocked over. A waitress did knock over and break one of the glasses. Besides the space limitations, the place is cozy and feels very Paris like. The food was very good, as was the wine by the glass selection.
I can’t think of anywhere outside of France that has a peppercorn sauce at this level. Amazing food flavor and over the top wine list. CNP by the glass!!!! OMG!
The food was if I I had found a neighborhood bistro in Paris. I had the confit de canard which was perfectly crisp on the outside, while being velvety lush on the inside.
This was my first time here and I truly enjoyed it. The mussels were the best. I also recommend to start off with the duck pate and have the duck breast after.
If you can't go to Paris........
An evening at this charming wine bar in midtown east will make you believe you're dining in a charming bistro on the Ile St Louis. A wide range of wines by the glass, knowledgeable staff who always make great recommendations and a delightful menu await!
So make cheaper than jumping on a flight for Paris! Love the jazz band during lunch. Enjoy the wine flight !!
Great as always
We love this restaurant. It's a French bistro with wonderful food, great wine and service to match. The classics are terrific here: escargot, steak frites, mussels. This time we tried the grilled sardine special--my dinner companion, who doesn't like sardines, thought it was excellent. The salmon was perfectly cooked and plated over some tasty white beans, and the pork chop special with apples and potatoes was absolutely delicious. Juicy and flavorful.
We had a great experience here. It's a perfectly cozy spot in winter, and when they open the front windows, it's a wonderful summer location too.. truly a neighborhood gem.
Very good experience
We all took the Mussels with french fries which are very good
And a delicious Tarte Tatin...one of the best I ever had in the US
People are friendly and service was good
The food here is absolutely delicious. Consistently. The service is perfect and personal. Our waitress was wonderful. Her name is Rada and managed the entire dining room at lunch from seating to service perfectly. Friendly, and very attentive to details. As soon as I leave the restaurant, I am always planning my next meal back. I dream about their Duck Confit, endive salad and poached pears with wine and chocolate. The wine list is great. The only thing I would change about the dining experience is the 80s style disco music. It is annoying to listen to while you are having such delicious food. Suggest changing to a neutral jazz or French classics like Edith Piaf.
Great food and wine! Impromptu wine tasting was offered for the whole restaurant! $200 for 2, including a nice Burgandy.
Visited for NYE and had wonderful service, food and fun! Excellent authentic French fancy bistro cuisine, lovely wine selection, lovely classic, comfortable space. We'll be back often!
Very cozy wine bar. Food and wine were wonderful as well as the service.
Wonderfully refreshing, civilized, well appointed and classic, all in one! Preferring lunch wherein you can truly enjoy the amazing wibe selection and a liggt fare, the energy remains positive during later hours.
Wonderful ambiance, food and service!
The wine and ambiance were great! The service had no fault. The French Onion Soup was delicious. The steak and the specials were OK. It was quite expensive. Overall a good place but would recommend going only for a few glasses of wine and a french Onion Soup, then move the dinner party elsewhere.
Classic French cuisine, very well prepared. Excellent selection of wines. Pleasant service. Plan to be back.
We began our dinner with the most delicious onion soup and ended with profiteroles. Needless to say we really enjoyed our meal.
Lovely wait person. Excellent oysters w/bubbly and great burgers!
Tasteful holiday decorations...all in all, a fabulous evening!
This is a really intimate cool place with great food. Really charming.
Onion soup among the best, try the boulliabase ...loaded and includes calamari a la Francais.
First prize goes to an Endive salad with apple and walnuts. Sounds simple but just trust me
100 different glasses of wine with some very hard to finds and a good value
THIS HAS GOT TO BE THE MOST UNDERRATED FRENCH RESTAURANT IN NYC! The food is wonderful, the service is wonderful and the wine list, although not very long, is very well thought out. If you are not familiar with French wines, just depend on your server, they are ver knowledgeable. This bistro is small and gets crowded fast by local office workers and neighborhood foodies who know how good this place is, so make a reservation and enjoy!
You can try a variety of French wine at the restaurant.
Great prix fixe menu for lunch. Fast and convenient.
Never disappoints! Had the lamb chops this time around; delicious as always. My husband loves the steak frites with black peppercorn sauce; they make the best peppercorn sauce in midtown for sure.
I like that Le Bateau Ivre never disappoints, with its generous wine list and attentive, knowleadgeable servers and staff in general. Many thanks again!
Lovely and very French. Felt like Paris. A little loud and crowded but also very cozy. Moderate cost but appetizers a bit expensive. Very nice restaurant. Good service.
Great neighborhood spot. Everything hit the mark and was perfect.
What's better than a delicious cassoulet on a chilly winter evening? Nothing!!
Very small, cozy French restaurant. Came here for dinner with my parents who were visiting from out of town, and we all had excellent meals. Lucky for us there was a free wine tasting the night we went, which was a lovely way to start the meal. I had excellent lamb chops, and escargot. Everyone enjoyed their meal, with a delicious wine pairing.
Le Bateau Ivre is a funky Berkeley icon. It is not flash, the wine list is limited, the food good so we enjoyed our evening there.
I met a friend for early lunch (11 am) at Le Bateau Ivre. The restaurant is lovely. On this fall day, they opened the restaurant all along one side to the quiet street. We each had the prix fixe lunch for $17.45 each. The salmon tartar was outstandingly delicious! The mussels in garlic sauce excellent. Coffee was just perfect. We were able to stay and talk a long time without being rushed. I highly recommend this charming restaurant only a short and pleasant walk from Grand Central!
Excellent meal and service. Great wine selection. Will definitely return.
We love Le Bateau Ivre. The staff is friendly and welcoming, food consistent, prices reasonable and wine list is long. It’s a great neighborhood local bistro for a casual dinner with friends or date night.
Wonderful staff...great service, good food and friendly atmosphere.
My favorite restaurant in the city. I always bring out of town guests here, and introduced this gem to my boyfriend who proclaimed it's the best French restaurant outside of France that he's ever been to, and he's a non stop traveler. He liked it so much, we went two nights in a row. Great quality, attentive wait staff, intimate atmosphere.
Delightful as always. Three of us were in town for a 50th reunion, and everyone was gracious and solicitous for our comfort and enjoyment. The food was classic and delicious. I make sure Le Bateu Ivre is part of my plans each time I visit New York, and it's always a lovely experience.
We visited Le Bateau on a Wed evening and could not have been more content with the choice of venue as well as the food/wine. The seafood paella was extraordinary and filling. Prompt service and attentiveness were notable. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with French wine bottles lining the mirrored walls and open space looking onto 51st St.
Used to go often. It hadn't been in a while. Good thing too. The food was still good but that was about it. The cheese and meat plates came first but within just a few minutes, so did the apps. The table was loaded with food that now had to be rushed since we didn't want to eat all the food at the room temp. We ordered a few bottles of wine, none of the glasses were changed and they poured the new wine, into glasses that still were half full of the old wine. Then, a simple mistake, one persons entree was never rung in. So everyone else received their food but 1 person. We told the staff don't make it as we were already half way done with the rest of the food. Even though they were informed not to make the food, 20 minutes later it showed up! We said we didn't want it and was met with an attitude and told to take it home. Overall a pretty bad experience for what should have been a birthday celebration. I would no longer want to recommend this place to anyone.
Have eaten here many times. Not as good as usual. Food was off and music was way too loud.
