Le Bateau Ivre
A classic New York French restaurant: "une petite boîte charmante.
The bistro looks nice from the street, but the dinner was bad. Soggy fries with steak, really badly
served duck with awfully sweet orange sauce and chestnuts, plus an uninterested waiter.
Started well with a good Bandol on the wine list, but alas the bottle was served too cold.
Lovely bistro in midtown with exactly the kind of ambience you want for a bistro. Terrific wine selection. Duck confit was perfect.
This is a go to place for us. The food is amazing and service is spot on. The wines are delicious. We love it for lunch or dinner. Small but intimate space
intimate, authentic French bistro. food is great.wine list is the best for French wines by the glass.
This had been my favorite and go to restaurant for YEARS and I've never EVER had a bad experience here until this time and it was truly embarrassing and awful. My steak frites was 1/3 inedible because of the fat. Our waiter very unceremoniously and without grace or welcome seated us and gave us about two minutes to look at the menu before asking for our order.... Never offered to get us drinks until I asked... And this is a French WINE BAR/bistro. Said "Do you guys want bread or are you ok?"... Clearly never intending to bring us bread until we asked for it. Brought one SMALL Pat of butter for the two of us. I added a shrimp cocktail after our initial order and this was apparently a criminal act. He was just rude and inattentive the entire evening, and I am not sure I will ever go back. It was my sister's birthday, and I wanted it to be lovely, and it was decidedly NOT. SUCH a disappointment!!
I go here all the time. It’s a good spot for pretty much anything you want to do – business meeting, date, drinks with friends, etc
Le bateau Ivre has everything that you could want in a French bistro: a comfortable, non- rushed, non-noisey experience; excellent wine selection; good mix of well-prepared food. The escargot brings me back just about every time I’m in New York.
Fantastic meal. Everything top notch but not stuffy. Try the paella. It takes 25 minutes but it’s delicious and worth the wait. The pork loin is tender and succulent as can be. Great wine selection too. Will return often.
Very late dinner after a long play. Not crowded or noisy. Nice ambience. Staff was gracious and responsive and the food was very good. Must keep it in mind for similar situations in the future.
This place wasn't open at our reservation time, despite having a confirmation from OpenTable. We showed up to meet clients for a business breakfast and they were closed. Made us look bad and had to find somewhere on the fly...not cool. Very unimpressed with both the restaurant and OpenTable for accepting reservations and then not being open.
The food was very good, the service was overall good but it did take a long time to bring the check. The vibe was great
A truly French Bistro feel. The menu was straight from the St Germain de Pres. The food was excellent including the Steak au Poivre, which was a bit steep at $40, but Midtown East is never a bargain. Our originsl waiter had a puss on (he was American, I think) the fellow who took over was charming and French. So much for stereotypes! Also prived free wine tasting.
It’s always a lovely to enjoy a meal here. The food is delicious and well prepared. The menu offers something for everyone.
Consistently excellent authentic food and attentive service. This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant in the city.
Delicious meal, great ambience and excellent wine!!! Celebrated my anniversary there and had a great meal. The oysters were lacking but the wine, the cassoulet, the duck tartine all made up for it. Plus my husbands steak tartare was delicious too!!
Although the old grand French in NYC are just about gone, Le Bateau Ivre maintains the tradition of good food in a warm engaging atmosphere. They have an excellent wine list and the staff are happy to recommend according to your needs. My personal favs are the Escargot, Lamb Chops and of course duck. I do not recommend for children and want to point out the the space is small so a reservation is required.
Foods were amazing! Very attentive staff!
Excellent service and delicious food!!
Great food. Cute like French restaurant with good authentic food
this is a true French bistro with very good food and an amazing wine list by the glass. The service is great. You can taste several wines until you find one that you like. Great foie gras terrine, pate, duck, among other dishes.
Very nice French bistro. There were different items on the menu that were great. However I did not see some of the choices that I saw on the menu online. The wine selection is fabulous.
Fabulous food ! Our waiter was on spot with refills of coffee. He was well dressed - polished. Our food arrived hot and perfectly prepared. The only glitch was it took too long for our check to be processed. However, after great food and service, I still give a thumb’s up. I will return.
The waiter is not friendly. We don't understand the french menu, but he didn't remind us the menu details. His communication in English is not in a qualified level. Meanwhile, he keeps giving us a feeling that he is very aggressive. The restaurant is very noisy.
We went for French Restuarant week and to celebrate two work friends birthdays. Even though we allocated a full hour for a midtown lunch, we had to get the dessert to go and were constantly asking the waiter to speed things up. The Croque Madame was tasty although the egg was a little overdone. The special pumpkin ravioli with blue cheese was nothing to write home about. The blue cheese really overpowered the pumpkin. Overall, very meh.
The menu offered a nice variety; the staff was pleasant and the prices somewhat reasonable ... especially for New York.
Excellent spot for a business lunch. Tasty food, good portions, and reasonable prices.
Great little bistro. We had the Duck Confit, Duck Magret, aricot verts, and grilled vegetables with great wines by the glass. Will be back.
We felt as if we were in France., instead we were non Manhattan. The restaurant has the charm of a Parisian bistro. The food is delicious.
You would think you are in Paris at a cafe. The food is mostly very good as is the service. It was noisy, the music was loud. We were4 there with friends who had been there before and said the noise level was unusual. The entrees were delicious (duck breast and mussels), the beet salad was only fair. I would definitely return.
Enjoyed everything, ambiance, service, food.
Party of 9 tall French guy serve most horrible service we didn’t finish eating from bread to appetizer to dinner he was rush to take a way our plates even I couldn’t have relaxing time to look at menu food was salty we paid more than $1200 include tips I hate the server 6 ppl in table noticed how rush service by the server all were not happy . Never never will go back I didn’t wanted leave tip at all ..... not recommended small place bad place for group .
After we came back to home we realized worst server Sam K put 35% tip himself and didn't tell us got more tip from without knowing tip more . Sam K French server he doesn't care ask price preference he bring most expensive wine continually . Scam server. If you have to go there you should ask that you do not want service from " Sam k" - French guy tall and dumb . he bring most expensive wines end up pay 4 bottles and he put 20% tip himself and not gonna tell you that tip is included so he can make more money to scam customers. Also he try to take your plate in 3-5min that while you are still eating . Trust me avoid this server . You gonna end up calling to bank for you got scam from this server for self service tip .
I was a bit concerned after I had made the reservation because I belatedly read the reviews and found a few negative comments on food and service. The good news is that both my son's and my orders were pretty good. The oysters were fresh, the roasted beets salad, and steak frites were delicious. The not- so- good news is that I agree with the reviewers who said service was slow. We had to wait too long for any server to approach us when we needed something, like water or the bill. The place is small but it was not full house. Still it was obvious only 2 servers for the diners at that time was not sufficient. I do appreciate the sparkler candle the servers brought for my son's birthday which I had requested. (I wish they both stayed less than a minute more to sing Happy Birthday with us just like in other restaurants.)
Cute bistro Had very small space but good value. Mussels excellent.
Where to begin. The staff is an amazing tag team to insure your experience is perfect. The sommelier had a delightful wine tasting. The duck was perfection. The beans were so tender and flavorful.
Feels like Paris. Great wine options Friendly, professional staff.
Great place to eat, especially on a warm evening as you can sit outside or by the open doors. We ate there twice as the atmosphere and food are great but be warned that the service is a let down. We ordered a salad and the lamb as two main dishes and the salad arrived before we had been offered bread and way before the lamb. We also ordered a second bottle of wine and when it arrived it was open and a third of the bottle was missing. The manager did apologies and had it changed.
Fresh food, wine list superb , great place on Sunday afternoon
I enjoy dining here. Whether it is lunch or dinner their menu selection is excellent. Their wine list by the glass or the bottle is extensive. It’s nice to dine in a French bistro right here in Midtown East Manhattan.
