Le Baratin is a casual French bistro located in the West Village overlooking bustling Greenwich Avenue between 6th and 7th Avenues. Working with local products and purveyors, our menus feature a selection of familiar bistro offerings. Our signature dishes include the mussels, the tartare de boeuf au couteau, and the steak frites with a homemade peppercorn sauce served with perfectly cooked hand-cut fries. Our dessert menu features a changing assortment of homemade desserts, but always includes classic favorites like crème brûlée and chocolate mousse.

This is an authentic French bistro, exactly what you might find in Paris. My husband and I loved it.

You have to like the fact that you hear French being spoken in a French restaurant. Staff are friendly and highly professional. Le Baratin has a genuinely French bistro vibe and the food is pure, unpretentious but excellent quality French comfort food. The Boeuf Bourguignon, coq au vin, salade de chevre and magret de canard are all done exquisitely well. A great neighborhood gem.

The meal was spot on again, and the service was great. Very attentive to any needs and the tip is to get there early if you can. Does get packed! If you are the carb eater, order the pizza and an order of escargot. The garlic sauce in which the escargot is cooked in, will pair perfectly on the pizza to provide a stimulating taste in your mouth. The croque appetizer is delicious as well! Everything on the menu is delicious, you can't go wrong!

I made a reservation on Open Table and they put us in the corner table. Near the end of the meal, while we were enjoying dessert, the waiter asked us to move to another table to accommodate another person. We were offered free glasses of champagne for our trouble, then were asked to leave soon as there were more guests that would need that table. I get that it was New Years Eve, but why is their overbooking our problem? We're not slow eaters, either! I have recommended this restaurant to others looking to get together with friends from out of town, or have a nice meal with a friend. I'm really disappointed that we were chased out of there after spending so much money. The food is good, but it wasn't worth the stress of feeling unwelcome. I'd probably come here with a friend and sit at the bar and order the baked brie, but my last visit was so discouraging I'd rather visit a less obnoxious place.

Savoureux et chaleureux, comme toujours!
Delicious and very welcoming, as always!

Among the classics, very good Gevrey-Chambertin and tasty côte de bœuf.

Very good French food, warm welcome, good service, good value. The food was much better than a dinner we had that same week at Benoit. Highly recommended: magret de canard (beautifully seasoned and presented) and bœuf bourguignon. Our group of 4 was at first hesitant because of the lively bar scene upfront, near our table. While the noise level was more than we had expected on a week night, as long term Villagers, we enjoyed the neighborhood ambience that is missing in most area restaurants. Go for the good food and the cozy warmth on a cold winter night. You will have a fine meal without the pretension of small plates, toasted coriander, and meat cooked the way chef likes it.
