Le Baratin’s cozy atmosphere and delicious French bistro food was a perfect place for a family dinner with well-travelled out of town relatives.
Outstanding. Upon our arrival, there was a miscommunication between Open Table and the restaurant about the time of our reservation. They were unable to seat us at 7:30, but after having a drink at the bar, they were able to seat us within 25 minutes and went above and beyond to make up for the miscommunication. Our server gave us complimentary appetizers, champagne and dessert -- all of which were extraordinary. He was super attentive and friendly. The atmosphere was also super enjoyable -- casual yet chic and super fun and lively. We really enjoyed the beef burgundy, steak frites and chocolate mousse. 10/10 would recommend!
Always a terrific meal. Love that the servers speak French—not typical even in many “French” restaurants. Nice wine list. But a bit too cramped on a Saturday night and certainly way too noisy. I’ll be back but during the week!!
Good food, amazing service. Wine was too expensive by the glass but food was well priced. Not the best ambiance/decor. Still a great date night!
Great vibe with excellent food and service to match. Lamb chops a must. Don’t skip dessert.
Warm and cozy atmosphere, attentive service and delicious food
Everything was fair--except for the cocktail and wine (also known as plonk--see British English definition) by the glass.
I was pleasantly surprised about Le Baratin. A very evocative space transports you to France. A nice place to talk and hear your guests. Service was ok as there was only one server running the restaurant and bar. I was there for brunch. That being said, he was very welcoming and pleasant. The food was good. Happily, I had the Baratin Benedict which had excellently cooked pouched eggs. The eggs were soft and runny; yum! The coffee is made individually so superior to drip coffee. The prices are reasonable. There is also a local following, giving it a ‘Cheers’ like feeling. I will go back again.
Absolutely amazing food! Best escargot I’ve ever had. Friendly and prompt service. Hidden gem, highly recommend!
Wonderful meal with all the bistro classics on the menu. The staff couldn't have been nicer.
Amazing like usually
Love going here for a good meal when you need a last minute reservation and want a cool place.
Unwelcoming, cramped quarters with heavy sports theme. Food was average and uninspired.
Small comfortable resonably priced French restaurant with delicious food and good selections on the menu.
Had a lovely dinner mid week. Food was delicious the service was friendly and real. Will definitely return soon....
A regular stop for us, we love taking friends and Gabriel spoiled us well last time! Merci!
Love this place!
My new favorite French Restaurant!
Ordered Appetizers to Dessert everything was absolutely delicious!
Service was incredible!
Mike the owner was extremely friendly!
Excellent vibe, Wonderful atmosphere!
I feel like I'm in France!
Can't wait to come back!
Texting my friends as we speak to make future dinner plans!
Tres bonne adresse pour les français, Mike à une attention toute particulière pour eux.
Nous avons passé une soirée très sympa.
We didn’t have a great experience. There were many empty tables that they refused to seat us at. They did not offer is the prix fix menu saying it was too late. We arrived at the restaurant a good 20 minutes before they stopped serving it. Other annoyances included hearing waiters talk to each other about “weird” customers and the temperature resembling a sauna.
Food was delicious and the servers are awesome. Local restaurant that is always good.
The “brioche” French toast was two slices of WonderBread slathered in syrup and confectioner’s sugar that would have been masked by a pile of stale fruit had I not asked for it on the side. The side salad that went with the lamb sausages was clearly from a bag and the sausages were on par with something I could find in a truck. The only good thing about this spot is the server was polite and non-intrusive. 10/10 do not recommend
Amazing experience as always.
Food is good . Wine was very good. When it came time to divvy up the bill the waiter kept making errors and it got very confusing.
Even for New York standards, this place has particularly cramped seating, and terrible and arrogant service. We literally had to fight to finish every single dish and drink. The aggressive waiter kept trying to take half-finished plates and glasses away. We were sent out packing in an hour. The food is ok, slightly pricey comfort food (which is not comforting).
Food is good
Place is small
Service is good
Prices are fine
Tables are a bit too small
Overall good deal
Best French bistro in the city
We love French food, and this was a local non- touristy place. Yet as visitors we were very welcomed food and wine was very French and the staff was great
Favorite neighborhood spot in NYC. Consistently delicious food, great service, low-key vibe. If anyone visits, this is always my first choice and everyone falls in love.
Food is just like in France, run by French people, with a lot of decorations from everywhere in France.
Approved by a French expatride in visit in NYC !
Meh. Not great food and not great service. First, diners were crowded together in one area despite many empty seats. Waiter lacked personality and not pleasant whatsoever--food just plopped down, not welcoming, not at all warm. He had a French accent, but the waiters are actually much nicer in France! Food was overall very bland. Cheese plate was embarrassingly bad for a French restaurant (and waiter did not even tell us what was being served on the plate). My pate was indistinguishable from supermarket liverwurst. Bread also substandard for a French restaurant, again like a supermarket baguette. The food was reasonably priced, but portions were smallish too. Pretty disappointing. Perhaps this place has seen better days? Best thing about this place is the location.
Really nice place for locals and some of the items on the menu were really good. The frittes and the mussels in particular. The pate was good too and I really liked the cocktails. The waiters were attentive (and French!).
The bavette was not good unfortunately. Well cooked though. Just covered in a really salty and poorly executed brown sauce. Just avoid that one, speak up because it's really loud and try to ignore the French sports bar motif and French it up!
Fantastic French place. They get it. Very authentic.
Wonderful neighborhood French bistro. Outside tables are great for summer nights. Faces Abingdon Square. My favorite is their salade chasseur which has pieces of duck confit. We also had mussels and bass with lentils. The owner is very friendly and very French!
Wonderful date night at Le Baratin! Delicious food (the cheeses are especially good) and quiet enough to have nice conversation. The bottle of Bourdeaux we shared was fabulous and the service was excellent. Highly recommend for a casual, delicious French meal in the Village.
Even though we were lured by a prix fixe deal that we discovered was not valid on a Saturday, we were
Very satisfied with the entire experience! Service was cordial and efficient. The food was excellent - the traditional coq au vin and a delicious branzino preceded by a beet and mango tartare. The prices were quite reasonable. And special thanks to a terrific regular gentleman patron who offered his accurate advice.
Very nice place.everyone was great and although crowded had a good vibe
I really enjoyed my dinner at Le Baratin. It was a last minute reservation to meet my daughter and it couldn’t have been better. The food was excellent - I had the mussels my daughter had the hanger steak and we shared an order of Brie in puff pastry. I almost always go to French restaurants and this one was just perfect. Simple, gracious, good food, excellent value and great ambience. I’ll definitely be back!
