We enjoyed two of their nightly specials: halibut and filet mignon. Both were excellent. Although pricier than the standard menu items, they were definitely worth it. Jean Robert himself was in the kitchen, and his hand was evident in those entrees.
Best restaurant in Cincinnati!
Very disappointing. This is our 4th Jean Robert restaurant and had hopes. We were not greeted or acknowledged for 10 minutes when we arrived at our reserved time. Our drink order were wrong including missing a drink. The appetizer plates were dirty. The bottom of one of the plate had large pieces of dried food on it that was transferred to the one under it. No apologies over that just taken without a word. The salmon was extremely dry. Even with the sauce it was dry. The remainder of the food was just OK. Not good for the price. Not sure if we were supposed to receive bread but most of the other table did and it was not offered. Not sure if there was coffee or any other offer it after the entree because nothing was offered. We have enjoyed L. Table Maisonette in the past. This did not meet our expectations of the quality of service or food we experienced. Would not recommend
Jean Robert always has such delicious food and the presentation is simply the very best. I noted tremendous attention to detail on cleaning every single thing on the table - silverware, glasses, plates - prior to setting it. We were lucky in that chef was "in the house" cooking last night. So amazing.
Halibut was excellent!
The quintessential French meal! Truly, one of the best dinners in the Cincinnati. Created with unparalleled skill and lovingly served in a comfortable environment, we will be going back weekly!
Fun vibe with authentic, fantastic food! Great desserts!
Le Bar A Boeuf continues to impress me with their quality of food, ambiance, and service. Jean Robert is the greatest chef not only in the area, but the region. He is truly a legend! He has taken many of the well known dishes from his old restaurant JR's Table and incorporated them into the revised menu for Le Bar A Boeuf. Every time I eat there I am more and more impressed!
Dinner was delicious and service was attentive. Nice selection on the menu and entrees finished with a sauce poured on by waiter.
We love Jean Robert’s restaurants generally but have not been for several years (prior to Table closing) and this was the first time we had been to Le Bar a Bouef. We were not disappointed! The food was amazing. We started with the beef tartare and the escargot. My wife had the calves liver entree and I had the blue cheese encrusted steak special with fingerling potatoes. Liver and steak were cooked perfectly and there was not a drop of food that was left when we were finished. Finished off the meal with a very reasonably priced glass of Bordeaux. Thank you for the lovely date night!
The lamb chops cooked medium rare and bacon wrapped salmon dishes were both fantastic and prepared as ordered. Our meal begin with the shrimp Maisonette Style and this appetizer did not disappoint. We shared the Creme Brulee for dessert which was well prepared as well. The restaurant was busy and vibrant. What was nice about the evening was we were not rushed and were able to enjoy the food and atmosphere.
If you have not been to Le Bar A Boeuf lately you will be pleasantly surprised at the changes that have been implemented. Be sure to reserve for weekends.
Even giving grace for short-staffing due to COVID, we had to wait almost two hours from the time we ordered to the time they came out. When they were finally brought to our table, they were all overcooked (medium-well to well-done when we asked for the rare side of medium-rare). The manager initially wanted to offer an after-dinner drink or dessert and still charge us for the entrees. Ultimately, she offered 20% off which still did not cover the amount they charged us despite only one of our party actually eating their entree. Our experience was definitely not up to the level of expectations we had for a Jean Robert operation!
Wonderful experience, well managed, superb food and great wine selection in a lovely setting.
Great food in an intimate setting. Prices vary from modest to expensive. Service was attentive but not overbearing.
Food is always good. There is variety in the menu. Wine list is good. Service is excellent. They even found a pillow for me to use in the chair so I'd be more comfortable.
Excellent food, excellent service, very French! The pace of service was slow by American standards, but spot on for a protracted, relaxing “French” evening. Don’t go if you’re impatient or in a rush - leave your watch at home and savor the experience. It was absolutely transporting! The kitschy décor is très amusant. I’m guessing, but I infer the servers were transferred from one of J-R’s upscale shops. Very professional, cordial, competent. In summation, Bœuf is a gem, but expectations are key to enjoying the experience. The server knows you’re there. The server knows who’s next. The server WANTS to serve you. Just relax and wait your turn. Your patience will be richly rewarded!
Jean Robert's specials are worth coming in for alone.
Wonderful evening. Celebrating wife’s birthday, Mother’s Day with great friends. Saw other friends also dining. So happy a John Robert restaurant vibrant in post pandemic world. Staff was great. As was food.
Had an 8:15 reservation that we showed up a little early and they were able to get us seated which was great. It was clear the restaurant was freezing cold and that our server was overwhelmed and busy, we were barely checked on and watched multiple table come and go and we had to wait for over two hours to complete our meal which the building was freeze, we had to move together on the same side for warmth. Our server was. Very friendly but it was clear that our food was not getting in and we were a very last priority on the list and one of the last tables left in the restaurant not by choice.
Absolutely amazing service and the food was amazing!
Wonderful meal with a beautiful view and extremely friendly staff! Thank you for a wonderful evening!!
Very disappointing for a Jean Robert restaurant. There was a lack of Covid precautions from staff and customers. The atmosphere was far from what I would expect as the heating unit was very noisy, the screens were dirty and the windows were not clean.
Le Bar A Boeuf meal this evening was outstanding. One in our party ordered the trout special and myself the filet special. Both were cooked to perfection. Before the main course we had the crab cakes and shrimp appetizers. The shrimp is prepared Maisonette style and the tomato, mushroom, garlic, wine preparation was fantastic. Jean Robert was in the kitchen this evening and this certainly showed. This was one of the best meals we have had in a long time. We will certainly be going back in the not too distant future.
With Jean Robert now as the chef it is the best in the city.
Food was exceptional for a moderately priced restaurant. Chef Jean Robert is capable of greater things, but his flagship, Restaurant L, closed during the pandemic and will not reopen. Still, this surely is one of the four best restaurants in the Cincinnati area.
We had a decent first meal. It was easy to find and parking was convenient. The staff was friendly and welcoming. The restaurant has a very unique but fun atmosphere but the building it is seems a bit dated. The table service was attentive and friendly but not super sophisticated with serving and opening wine but not that bad. We only had one real issue and they corrected it quickly. We liked the cheese board a fair amount, found the beet salad to be ok. I really liked the salmon ratatouille but my wife was not that impressed with the lobster Mac and cheese. The wine was decent and reasonable prices for the wine and the food. They charged us for a soda water from the bar which we thought was funny but we didn’t complain about it. First time for that one.
Le Bar A Boeuf is always a great dining experience but this time it was extra special because Chef Jean Robert was in the kitchen! Every dish was perfect! I can’t wait to return!
This is a cozy unbelievable place to eat, where the food is 5 star and the atmosphere is relaxed.
Always pleased to enjoy the cuisine of Jean Robert. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday and the staff pulled out all the stops. Always delicious. Always reliable. Thank you!
French food served with care but unpretentiously
Everything about our visit was amazing. From the service to the food and the ambience I wouldn’t have changed a thing. I would highly recommend.
The escargot is delish. Amazing lobster bisque and I had a sublime calf liver with risotto.
Overall, we were happy and would return. It was a 2 1/2 hour meal. Started off with delicious bread. Ordered drinks. Fine. We ordered dinner...that took over an hour before we received it. Our waiter was not on the ball. It was my birthday and our kids ordered a surprise dessert. The waiter knew nothing about it. We finally got the desserts, but never received the champagne as promised to our kids. The food was delicious. It is a family run restaurant.
We love this place. I was so sad when Table closed but have found a new spot!!
Food was delicious! Service terrific have a wonderful evening.
This is the 3rd time I have eaten at Le Bar and all 3 times have been outstanding. Great Service and great food.
We have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Staff always friendly and provide excellent service.
Food was delicious. I like the new menu. We will go again.
