Lawry's The Prime Rib - Dallas Ratings and Reviews
We celebrated an early Easter on Saturday night at Lawry's. Lawry's is our family's Go To restaurant for celebrations. We've spent many occasions and non-occasions enjoying the great food and the attentive service at Lawry's. Thank you, Sherry, for your personable and experienced service.
the finest prime rib in all of Texas !!!! carved table side exactly the way you like it...salads cool crisp and colorful...unlimited wine and cocktail list.....deserts to die for (I like the banana creme pie, wife likes cheesecake). Several dining rooms to choose from ...depending on your taste and style. Service sets it apart from all the rest...From Lars ,the General Manager (who will make you feel like you are part of the Lawry's family) to the hostesses, to the wait staff and bus staff. They do whatever it takes to make your dining experience Wonderful. We keep coming back month after month . You can never get enough of a good thing !!!!You will LOVE it !!!!
Lawry's is the benchmark for Prime Rib.....Period! The traditional spinning bowl salad is spun by your server tableside with the special Lawry's dressing. Chilled salad forks are presented by your server "just like at home" followed by a presentation of Lawry's own seasonings. The creamed spinach is excellent. The great service, personalized tableside carving of Prime Rib to your specification and outstanding quality entrys and sides make Lawry's a winner and great value every time! Enjoy Lawry's for a special occassion, or just make dinner out a special occassion by having dinner at Lawry's!
The prime rib is what they are known for, and it's what will bring you back time and again. Overall, a very good place for prime rib and steak. My only quibble was that the service, while attentive, was a little intrusive. If they could have come and gone without repeatedly interrupting our conversation, it would have been great.
Prime rib was excellent, good flavor and portion for the price(Lawry's cut); the small filet was tasty and cooked as requested. There was nothing very unusual in this meal, and I wouldn't say the restaurant is a "foodie" kind of place, but if you want very good steak or prime rib and a nice selection of side dishes, give it a try. The waiter was attentive and pleasant, food was served on a good schedule, kitchen/waitstaff seemed eager to honor requests, and a manager stopped by our table to make sure everything was satisfactory. The restaurant atmosphere was very nice, and the noise level was quite low. We would go back; prices were very reasonable for what we had. $124, 1 filet, 1 prime rib, 4 drinks, 1 salad, 1 additional side.
The food was tremendous. We did not eat from the "cart" menu; but from the Chef's speciatlies on the menu. WOW!! I found my newest favorite side dish with the Horseradish Potatoes. As always the Asparagus was large and tender, we didn't find one that was fibrous or stalky. The Prime Rib stands on its own, no one does it better.
On the down side:
The service seemed slow; but it was busy (surprisingly busy for a Thursday evening).
The furniture and decor around the dining area are pretty much worn out; shaky chairs; worn leather; outdated decor.
Simply the best prime rib in all of Texas (yes that's right) !!!!cooked to perfection , ANY way you like it. Spinning bowl salad coll, colorful crisp and delicious.Unlimited wine and beverage list. Deserts to die for (carrot cake and banana creme pie are our favorite- but the desert list is endless). Service is exceptional. Lars , the General Manager greets you and makes you fell like you are part of the Lawry's family. Several rooms to dine in (depending on your mood). We first dined at Lawry's in 1987 and we've been coming back ever since (and not only for special occasions). It's a dining experience you always will remember.
Service from the front door to our table was great, warm, inviting and atmosphere was cozy. Love the valet parking. Food was good. Our waitress did not multi task well and seemed confused. Expensive to be charged for salad seperate from meal and a second side. The tomatoes were soggy.
The prime rib was very good (as expected); however, the rest of food was only average. The mashed potatoes were bland, the cream corn was nothing special. Same for the skillet mushrooms. The asparagus was the best side dish we ordered. The table service was average, the prime rib trolley service could be better. I had to request my cream corn as the server was leaving after serving only the prime rib and potatoes. The ambiance was nice but overall, I won't consider this dining experience to be worth the price.
This place is staffed with some over-the-hill librarians. The food is very mediocre - not up to par with a Mortons, Ruth Chris, Smith & Wolinsky or any of the other good steak chains. The atmosphere said it all...mostly empty, with a white trash family next to us and a couple of tables of what looked like out of town business people.
My husband and I have dined at Lawreys for our anniversary for many years. However, we had not been in 4 or 5 years. Our food was luke warm and the meat was dry and flavorless. We are not ones to complain or cause a scene. We had taken our 15 year old with us for our anniversary dinner and he was not impressed either. We had always considered going to lawreys such a wonder experience and something special to do. We were truly disappointed!! I can't say that we would ever return. I am not a chef, but my standing rib roast I cook for Christmas was much more flavorful and tender than your prime rib. Our server was Excellent!!
Food was not as good as usual, my wife asked for medium rare prime rib, but it was very bloody- rare at best. I ordered the Oscar Filet Mignon medium -which was well done. The scalloped potatoes were underdone/crunchy as well. Before we always had a good experience here at the Dallas location. I will give them another chance but favor Ruth's Chris at this point.
The prime rib, with bone, was just OK. Fat content was good, but there was quite a bit of sinew in the meat. The mashed potatoes served with the plate was tasteless. Also, the restaurant automatically puts gravy onto the mashed potatoes, which I did not like. The flavor of the gravy was not good, and was not a good match for the prime rib. It would have been better to serve the au jus only. Or, at least ask the patron if they would like a gravy with the mashed. The asparagus side dish was also disappointing. The stems were tough -- and this is asparagus season where I can buy better fresh asparagus at the store.
