This is the only place I will order prime rib. It's medium rare every time.

I had not been to Lawry's for years, and was absolutely delighted that the dining ambience, the special service setting (spinning salad with delicious dressing, and focus on the over-the-top prime rib of beef) had not changed at all. A venerable Chicago icon, in every way. It was a WONDERFUL evening accompanied by a beautifully-performed cocktail and a very nice bottle of wine. Server had been there 44 years, and was just a lovely lady and pro. What more can be asked for UNDER $100?

We got there a little early and our wait time was only 5 mins before our scheduled reservation. Which was amazing and our waitress was spectacular and suggested lobster mac and cheese in the wait room area.

Host was beyond rude. We had a reservation at 6 pm , showed up a little early (15 min) he rudely dismissed us to wait in the corner , even though they weren’t even busy, then I came back at 6:01 , he said it’s not 6:00, I only go by my watch ... more rudeness, then at 6:05 he said, they’ll be a bit of a wait... then we were seated by an equally rude head waiter...
all of this I’m sure seems trivial, and I’m sure will not be read, but this was supposed to be a special dinner for my daughters birthday, which was noted on the reservation but made no mention of, as my 8 year old daughter noted “ We should’ve gone to Joe’s Crab house Dad... they’re much nicer there...

Lawry's is an 'old Chicago stand by' that I had not visited in over 30 years. It has stood the test of time. It does its main thing well -- deliver great prime rib. The fixings that come with it are solid but unspectacular -- the mashed potatoes, yorkshire pudding, and spinning salad. The latter disappointed because the greens were wilted and there was a bit too much dressing but overall passable. I highly recommend the creamed corn!!!

The waiter was quite accessible although I found it pretentious that we were advised by our hostess to refer to him as "Mr. so and so". He also pushed extras relentlessly -- to a degree that caught by attention.

But if you are looking for a basic down-the-middle great prime rib dinner, this is a good place to go.

There is a serious possibility that I will not be able to eat prime rib anywhere else again. Amazing! Everything was excellent. Everyone says the creamed spinach is the side to get, and it was good, but for me, the corn was the hidden little gem.

Lawry's is the place to go for prime rib. The service continues to be excellent and the signature salad, prime rib, mashed potatoes and cream corn is a one of a kind dining experience.

We thought the chocolate bag desert was the best until we had the new chocolate cart.

Very formal, dated ambiance. Waitress uniforms made me think of "Hazel" (Mr. B's maid in the 1960s sitcom by the same name).
Prime rib was good. Served on a plate with a scoop of mashed potatoes plopped onto it. Small ladle of gravy in an indentation in the potatoes. Yorkshire pudding provided with which to "soak up the au jus", but there was none. No broccoli spear or even a sprig of parsley to enliven the plate.
Very expensive for what one received.

Not a great value for the price. Nothing special. Not a lot to the prime rib. Aus jus was thicker than expected and overwhelmed the taste of the prime rib. Kinda masked. Plain mashed potatoes. Spinning salad was unique, though.

Lawry's remains a great spot for a nice prime rib, upscale dining.
It has been many years since I dined at Lawry's. I ordered center cut filet and it was delicious! The food is as good as I remember however, I was a little disappointed in the service. Our family chose to dine at Lawry's to celebrate my son's and my birthday. The waitress didn't seem as friendly towards our family as I noticed she was with other guests. In addition, I asked her advice on which dressing for steaks was best..bearnaise vs. peppercorn sauce to be exact. She proceeded to explain what a bearnaise sauce is in a condescending manner. I voiced my knowledge of sauces, just wanted to know if the restaurant had a favorite. Our family is African American, so I took this exchange a bit personally. It may take a while before I visit Lawry's again. The waitress sort of soured the experience for our family.

Went with the small cut ribeye and it was good. Good temp, good flavor. Opted for mashed instead of the accompanied scalloped and thought they were quite substandard for such a pricey restaurant. Dry and flavorless. Old school setting was kinda cool. Waitress was very good. Had an amazing malbec with dinner. I dont recommend spending $200 here for 2. Go to a steakhouse and get your moneys worth. I felt slighted. It was not worth the tab at all.

Went for our tenth wedding anniversary. I had seen Lawrys on the travel channel. My two favorite seasonings are Lawrys seasoning salt and their pepper . The prime rib was everything I had hoped for. I ordered the beef bowl and the creamed spinach but don’t think I even tasted the spinach Didn’t want to pay all that money and get full on spinach. My wife ordered the salmon and she said it was alright. Personally not sure what all the fuss is about salmon anyhow. You usually have to drench it in some kind of bourbon sauce to kill the fishyness of salmon . My only complaint would be the salad dressing, I don’t like French or any other heavy creamy based dressings but they did have oil and vinegar. Not everybody likes everything. If I ever go back to Chicago I will head right back to Lawrys.

I felt like I was in a time capsule! The salad was incredible-- chilled fork, hand spun, and super fresh and crunchy. The prime rib lived up to its reputation. The service was excellent. Great experience!

Overall another solid experience. we enjoyed our experience as we have been going with our friends for 28 years in a row to celebrate by wife's birthday. The service was just average this time around. All the food was great as usual except the creamed corn was cold and the prime rib was more medium rare instead of the medium we ordered.

We are very fond of this restaurant and have been here several times. This time, we felt as if we were being rushed by our waitress. We did take advantage of Chicago Restaurant Week special. We wondered if we were being rushed along because of that. If so, I find that completely unfair and that is why I had taken a star off for service.

Lawry's is always a crowd-pleaser. It's a classic that never goes out of style and a favorite in our family. I was a little disappointed that we were not offered the restaurant week menu -- it was a very good deal and we realized after we left. :-(

Had heard many good things about Lawry's and it lived up to the hype. The food is great. My husband got the prime rib and I got the filet, and both were fantastic. I also had the mashed potatoes, which were excellent. Their spinning salad that comes with every meal isn't anything special, but it's fun to watch them make. The service was excellent, but the outfits the servers wear are odd. We also got drinks ahead of time at their attached bar next door, and those drinks are interesting and tasty. It's expensive at Lawry's, but I'd recommend it if you can afford it or for a nice night out.
