It was great like always.
Lawry’s is a Chicago institution but we felt a little rushed.
The spinning salad was just lettuce and beets with French dressing.
We all had the Lawry’s cut of Prime Rib which was excellent.
I would recommend it for the classical ambience but be forewarned. It is a meat market and they want a fast turnaround of tables.
This is the only place I will order prime rib. It's medium rare every time.
Lawry's is a classic Chicago restaurant with great food, excellent servers and grand atmosphere.
From the valet to the service it was an experience. Absolutely enjoyed the time spent there. Food was amazing.
I had not been to Lawry's for years, and was absolutely delighted that the dining ambience, the special service setting (spinning salad with delicious dressing, and focus on the over-the-top prime rib of beef) had not changed at all. A venerable Chicago icon, in every way. It was a WONDERFUL evening accompanied by a beautifully-performed cocktail and a very nice bottle of wine. Server had been there 44 years, and was just a lovely lady and pro. What more can be asked for UNDER $100?
We got there a little early and our wait time was only 5 mins before our scheduled reservation. Which was amazing and our waitress was spectacular and suggested lobster mac and cheese in the wait room area.
Host was beyond rude. We had a reservation at 6 pm , showed up a little early (15 min) he rudely dismissed us to wait in the corner , even though they weren’t even busy, then I came back at 6:01 , he said it’s not 6:00, I only go by my watch ... more rudeness, then at 6:05 he said, they’ll be a bit of a wait... then we were seated by an equally rude head waiter...
all of this I’m sure seems trivial, and I’m sure will not be read, but this was supposed to be a special dinner for my daughters birthday, which was noted on the reservation but made no mention of, as my 8 year old daughter noted “ We should’ve gone to Joe’s Crab house Dad... they’re much nicer there...
Love this place!
Excellent food and a delightful waitress. She kept us on schedule to leave for our opera that evening.
Never a disappointment at Lawry’s. The staff is fantastic, shout out to Mr. Rice, he made the evening even more enjoyable.
Miss Hodges provided outstanding service! Life changing experience and one of the finest dining experiences Chicago has to offer.
best prime rib in the country and classic historic place but too expensive
Lawry's is an 'old Chicago stand by' that I had not visited in over 30 years. It has stood the test of time. It does its main thing well -- deliver great prime rib. The fixings that come with it are solid but unspectacular -- the mashed potatoes, yorkshire pudding, and spinning salad. The latter disappointed because the greens were wilted and there was a bit too much dressing but overall passable. I highly recommend the creamed corn!!!
The waiter was quite accessible although I found it pretentious that we were advised by our hostess to refer to him as "Mr. so and so". He also pushed extras relentlessly -- to a degree that caught by attention.
But if you are looking for a basic down-the-middle great prime rib dinner, this is a good place to go.
