Lawry's The Prime Rib - Chicago Ratings and Reviews
The prime rib itself was good and what I remember. Our waitress was very good and friendly. However, the restaurant is old and a bit dirty. You can tell there aren’t any real standards as the staff stands around in groups chatting away with each other. Reservation set for 9pm, seated at 9:40. Other than the prime rib itself (which you can find equal or better elsewhere) no real reason to go to Lawry’s
We had a great time, there. The prime rib was perfect. The staff was very skillful, courteous and made us feel special. Wonderful experience and very nice way to celebrate our anniversary. The reservation process, through Open Table, was simple, smooth and very helpful with their confirmation and reminders. Overall wonderful experience!
A disappointing evening. The ala carte costs were so off the norm that they detracted from the experience. The prime rib was not the prime rib I recollected from past dinners there. The compacted table space was uncomfortable. I am surprised that they were as busy as they were given the basically lack luster food. I think they are living on past laurels and are not maintaining their quality as they did in the past. We will not be back.
Awful! Would never return or recommend! A guy came in from street and went to several tables and actually stole my husbands wallet as he had it out to pay! Guy came to table said from restaurant collecting for ball team and walked out! How he was ever allowed in past manager with no reservation and dress code is beyond me! Lawry’s did nothing to help and said it’s Chicago, this happens! We were visiting with Realtor conference from NY. Never would I go there again! Not a safe place if this can happen inside a restaurant! Be careful!
This place was absolutely amazing. Ms. Houston was our server and she was so wonderful, upbeat, professional and friendly all in one. I can't say enough about the food and even my husband agreed, they have now spoiled us on our favorite meal to eat, Prime Rib. Going to our normal restaurants such as Berns Steakhouse or Ruth Chris will no longer be the same, that is just how great their Prime rib is at Lawry's. If I had to think of anything negative, it wouldn't be about the food, the dining area or the staff, it would be about those uniforms that the women servers have to wear...it's time they were retired and hung on the wall in a frame. I understand it is the uniform worn for years but no more. The ladies would look so much nicer in something fresh and modern instead of like nurses going to world war 2. Well, that is my thoughts and now I won't be ordering Prime Rib again for a long time because in Florida there is no Lawrys and I know I will now be disappointed going to any place but there...thanks for the best evening ever.
Food was horrible. The prime rib was tough. I wouldn’t feed it to my dog.
I got the feeling that they gave us poor quality fatty, tough hunks of meat because we didn’t order drinks and appetizers.
I’m not sure how people give this place great reviews
I will never go back to this place again.
Lawry’s is a Chicago landmark. The dining room is beautiful and the service is the best you’ll find anywhere. The prime rib is the reason to go there. It is the best you will ever have. It is served as a fixe pris meal including the famous spinning salad bowl, mashed potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. Other sides are available a la carte. This is an expensive dining option but well worth the cost.
Lawry's continues to provide the most outstanding and unique dining experience in Chicago. Ms. Kate, one of the newer servers, paced our meal splendidly, making sure our drinks arrived with the proper courses and surprising us with an amazingly delicious caramel cake for our anniversary. And the food always takes center stage. There is no prime rib in the world as good as Lawry's and our favorite carver, Modesto, again sliced us the perfect cuts. We love Lawry's and eat there as often as we can.
Very classic interior with staff in uniforms and oil paintings on the walls - a very warm/soft/formal place to dine. The tableside salad and carved prime rib were fun. Needed to prompt a few orders of food and drinks when they took a long time to arrive (ex. asking a second time for a glass of wine before I finished my entrée (15 min wait)). But when everything arrived, it was as promised and tasted good. I was looking for a little more intrigue in the spices and presentation of the food. However, Lowry's is super-classic, so all plates came out as they probably have for the past 50 years. Good sized portions. Looked like there were nice romantic two-tops around the edge of the room that would be great for a special dinner.
Went here to celebrate a special occasion. Table was ready promptly and service was excellent. Meal and wine were delicious. This an experience not to miss. Prime Rib was cooked and served perfectly. Side items and the house salad were delicious. The only glitch we had was receiving the incorrect bill but it was corrected quickly and our server apologized and handled it in the correct way. We enjoyed our meal very much. I
Had not been to Lawry’s in years, but I decided to take a business group to have a special evening. Just like I remembered; richly decorated room, serving staff if traditional uniforms, impressive somewhat theatrical presentation, and great traditional menu. The prime rib was spectacular, and everyone richly enjoyed the other entrees and sides we ordered. Not inexpensive, but a treat for any kind of special occasion; plus, you can actually hear each other have a conversation in a normal tone of voice!
