It is for us only special occasions as it it normally out of our normal price range. But that is why we like to go because we feel that we are treating ourselves.
It was an amazing dinner!
Our waiter, Jeff Rice, was fanastic! He knew his trade and was very entertaining. It was our daughter's 18th birthday and he was sensitive to making it special for her. The food was excellent, the prime rib came as ordered ... rare!!
Great ambiance!! The food was great, cant wait to return
Table next to piled extra chairs. We used to go there every time we went to Chicago for past 30 years. This was our last; too many good restaurants to deal with sloppy seating. Wish I had taken photo but I’m not a social media person, just plan to never return and tell everyone traveling to Chicago in our social circle from our homes in mid-south and Santa Barbara🤨
A classic favorite.
The food is always good there. This time I thought the piece of prime rib was smaller than usual. We had the lawrys cut and didn't look like other times I went there. Also the mashed potatoes had lumps of potatoes in there. I will still go back.
For a beef lover this is the place to go as their Prime Rib is second to none. Our server was extraordinarily attentive to our wanting to take time with drinks and conversation before ordering. I have never rated a carver before (they serve the meat and veg from a stainless steel cart), but this gentleman was exact for our desire for rare and medium rare cuts. It was Tuesday and rather quiet, but that was a plus for us as well.
Chicago tradition, old school and classic. A gem and a elegant dinning experience that we are loosing more and more!
The noise level was way too loud.
Prime rib was superior. The salad was sub par. Lettuce was a bit wilted. All else was average.
Go for the tradition and beef.
The nostalgia of being in a historic mansion where we once saw Kungsholm puppet operas and enjoying the best roast beef dinner with Yorkshire pudding and a terrific spinning salad bowl while admiring the vintage uniforms of the serving staff cannot be beat. I buy bottles of Lawry's seasoned salt and seasoned pepper to use at home, but I don't try to recreate the delicious, beautifully-carved roast beef at home.
We love Lawry’s. The service is always amazing and it is an incredibly fun place to go at the holidays. It’s beautiful.
A fine meal. One of the few restaurants that never disappoints!
Still love Lawry’s. One of my all time favorite restaurants. The prime rib and creamed corn are to die for but the past two times I’ve come, the mashed potatoes and gravy haven’t been up to your high standards. The flavors aren’t as rich as they used to be. I think the potatoes are lacking in butter and maybe a little salt (maybe slightly watery, not as thick and creamy as usual) and the gravy is definitely missing some of the richness of my past dining experiences. Maybe it doesn’t have as much of the drippings made with it that used to make it so rich. And I think the master carver was new because he cut pretty thin slices when we got the Lawry’s Cut. Which has always been enough to fill me up before now. I could totally see it wasn’t as thick as usual. And my piece especially, I watched it be cut at an angle so it was even thinner on one side. So while I still love it and am a member of the VIP Club, I might not come as often. The prices were justified when the sides were as fabulous as the prime rib. And it was a good thickness. Now with it not being as satisfying, I’m not quite as willing to pay those prices with the lacking flavor sides and not quite expertly cutting carver.
The host was very solicitous and genuinely welcoming. Our server, Jerry, was delightful. The support staff were friendly as well but could have been a little more aware as they only topped my water off once and I needed more than that amount. They are very nice in that they always ask if you are finished and can they take you plates before doing so. Some crazy staff at other restaurants rush you and grab plates without asking when you are still working on your course.
Thanks for an overall lovely evening!
Awesome steaks: prime rib (in all its forms), the spinning salad is also very good and the key lime pie is remarkable. Not a very good wine list though.
Wonderful meal, as always! The salad is truly delicious and the prime rib is unequaled in quality.
Excellent in every aspect!
As usual.....great food, great service. Keeping our over 20 year tradition alive and something we look forward to every year!
The place is too old, I understand the heritage but the place need a renovation in all ways, the waiter was so kind, but it’s a place with a bad formula to trate people. They do not understand why they got famous in the past!
A really good bourbon selection. The staff was a good as we've had in years. Food was close to perfect.
Best yet. Brought newbies and the continue to thank us.
After reading mixed reviews and word of mouth recommendations, my family and I decided to give Lawry’s a try. We arrived a little early and sat in the lounge. We ordered a couple drinks that were brought to our table. The cocktails were pretty good. Our server was very blasé about everything and put a damper on the overall mood. We ordered the diamond and the Lawry’s cut. Both medium rare. The diamond, which is supposedly a prized cut came medium well and just ok. The creamed spinach was overpowered by the bacon and creamed corn was creamed corn. We ordered an additional lobster tail which was good. We told the waitress the steak was over cooked and she did offer to get another piece but my husband was over it and didn’t care to eat anymore. She came back asking if we wanted dessert, we asked what they had and rattled off some things without any description or really didn’t even care. It was a very annoying experience. We planned for one nice dinner out on our vacation and it was wasted. We even told them we were celebrating our 9 year anniversary and they didn’t even mention it. Disappointed. They do have a kids menu and cups with lids. The holiday carolers were the best part of the evening. They took our song recommendation and sang beautifully.
Anniversary was not
Always a wonderful celebration! Since 1988
The service was great. The appetizer we had was really delicious.
The salad presentation was neat.
The Prime Rib was really good and tasty.
We finished with two great desserts and coffee.
Will will return on a special occasion.
Four years in a row and still having a great time with the family for our Christmas Dinner. Everyone loves it!!!
Well located, easy access, very good ambient, reasonable service, price on the high end, good food.
The steak just blew me away! Tender meat and balanced taste. Great service and ambience ia good for dating. Solid!
Excellent service, excellent food and great options for kids
We visit the Mag Mile every year after Christmas. Lawry's is our must-eat-at restaurant. We love the ambiance and the food is always delicious. It's also so fun to have carolers stroll to each table and sing our favorite Christmas songs. Such a treat!
Excelente trato y sabor
As a Lawry’s customer for 20+ years this is the first time we had a bad experience. We were sat in the upper level which they use when it is very busy such as a holiday. The waiter was not very good or knowledgeable. He made for a poor experience as well as it taking 1 1/2 hours to get our food from the time we were sat. Overall it was a disappointing Christmas Eve dinner.
Poor service, no plates for hordourves
But great Madrigal singers
Christmas Eve dinner. Love the prime rib. Great ambiance given the carolers. Really wonderful dinner.
Lawry’s never disappoints. Food was excellent. Our server was on the crabby side, but everything else was perfect.
Christmas Eve dinner -Fantastic in every way!!
Service was amazing Mrs Hodges did not rush our holiday meal. She was so pleasant and went out of her way to make our entire holiday enjoyable.
Recommended wine was lovely. We started out with the best salad that we always look forward to. We all had prime rib -delicious with mashed/gravy the best!!
Our sides were fantastic corn/peas and creamed spinach.
Ending the evening was the Chocolate Cart - no words to describe so delicious. Christmas Eve was so enjoyable with the Christmas Singers, good drink, great food, and amazing service
Thank you for a wonderful holiday !!!🎄🎄
Lawry's is the place to go to make a tradition for special occasions, to experience an iconic meal, and to explore the other options in the casual side-door. The service is impeccable and the food is always perfect.
We go to Lawry's for our annual Christmas time dinner. This year Mr. Rice was our server and was excellent. Our carver Alan was exceptional too. The caroler's came to our table and were perfection as was the entire ambiance. I highly recommend Lawry's for special occasions especially Christmas time. I and a friend had the prime rib which melted in our mouths while another friend had the salmon which she said was superb. 5 stars go out to Lawry's the Prime Rib - Chicago for everything from the coat check person to the food, everything was wonderful!
Love Lawry’s ... so fun at the holidays !
Been coming here for years and have been a VIP Platinum member for a long time. Very disappointed this time. The prime rib left a lot to be desired. Before we received our food from the carver, we noticed that he did not have a medallion on. This is something that we have always noticed, which distinguishes the master carvers at the restaurant. Our carver was young and obviously a rookie. Of the four cuts we received, two were so loaded with fat, we couldn't eat it. They ended up giving us a new cut but it came very late, as we didn't see our server again until everyone else was done with their meal. All cuts were terribly undercooked as well. If you ask for a medium cut from a carver, you should get a medium cut. These were blood rare, but we kept picking away at it until we could fine our server. Future tip - Don't settle for anything less than a carver with a medallion! Beside the let down with the quality of the food, our server was extremely slow. It took 20 minutes to get our dessert, which shouldn't be. We were doing with our cappuccino before the dessert came. For the price they charge, it should have been a better experience. I think this may be the last time we make it an annual Christmas choice for a night on the town.
