Aw c’mon it’s lawrys. It’s a classic. An old school fine dining experience that can’t be topped.
Old school excellence. Had dinela me; it did not disappoint. Our server Tera was helpful and very cheerful. Food everything we expected and more. We will be back.
I've been a customer at Lawry's my entire life. Wedding receptions, Christmas dinners, date nights, and the random craving for spinning bowl salad would bring me in once in awhile. The most recent time was for DineLA, which is an amazing deal. Prime rib, lobster tail, salad, yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes and dessert for $49/pp? Yes, please. It also happened to fall on my anniversary with my partner, so we made a date of it.
Let's start with the good: The food, the ambiance, the service, the polite wait staff...They are unchanging and that is something to be appreciated. Even when it's an "off day"...i.e. the prime rib happens to be a little dry, I really don't mind because it's just a lovely experience overall.
What bothered me about this recent trip was our waitress. She interrupted our meal twice to try and market their VIP points program, and again with a gift card sale they were having. I was handed flyers and brochures in the middle of my salad and again during my prime rib. It was very off putting. If this was something upper management is making their wait staff do, I would like to suggest that it be done with tact, perhaps at the end of the meal, brochures and flyers tucked into the bill. When our waitress handed us the check, she asked yet again, if we were going to sign up for the VIP or purchase a gift card. When I told her no, she huffed and said, "so...you don't want the free money?" Unprofessional and uncomfortable.
Lawry's, I love you so, but please relax with the upselling.
I only go here during Restaurant Week and this time was no exception. My dad got the prime rib, but I got the salmon due to some alarming cholesterol numbers from my doc. The prime rib was good, but the salmon was a little dry. However, overall the meal was excellent, as was the service.
Food is consistently excellent. Service is also excellent. We went for the Dine LA special and it was a real bargain! You can not go wrong at Lawrys.
Lobster tail was overcooked. Prime rib was excellent.
Very enjoyable . The food was very tasty and brought out in a relatively good amount of time. Can’t remember our server’s name but she is always so nice and informative as she has been there a very long time. Thanks for everything.
Went there during Dine LA which is a fantastic deal. I've been before and the service is always outstanding! Even during a busy time with the place packed with DineLA-ers, the service was superb. Never felt rushed and always taken care of by their friendly staff. And a great place to get some nice meaty comfort food. Try the meat and potatoes martini--it's almost like having a meal!
Service was awesome!
Overall the prime rib is very tender and good. We enjoyed it very much!
Great food, but although we arrived on time for our reservation we weren’t seated until about 25min after our reservation time which was very disappointing. Overall the service and atmosphere left something to be desired, especially when a $20 tip to the carver (for a table of 3) made no impression whatsoever. If you’ve never been here definitely check it out, but probably not worth a return trip. Really I wish the service matched the food quality.
Food was fantastic, and the Service was excellent.
Excellent food and service
This is my fourth time dining at Lawry's and first time taking advantage of the DineLA menu. We made a reservation for 3 at 6PM and arrived at 5:50PM to check in. After waiting for 20 minutes, we asked the hostess on why we still haven't been seated considering that groups of different sizes who checked in later than we did already got seated. The hostess was very indifferent when answering and just said they are waiting on tables to become available. We waited another 15 minutes before talking to the manager. We got seated 5 minutes later as a special accommodation at 6:30PM. The manager was very understanding and provided us with a free appetizer on the house to compensate for the mishap. Even though the manager managed to make the best out of the whole situation, it is still very disappointing for a fine dining experience. I'm still going to recommend friends to visit Lawry's because it's an LA stable, but I probably won't be going back anytime soon because of this rather terrible experience. Kudos to the manager though for gracefully salvaging the visit.
DineLA is the best !!
The food was delicious.
We enjoyed our return visit to Lawry’s !
This experience took me back in time. I felt like I was in a Colonial Home having dinner with my daughters. The 21st century was the last thing on my mind.
The waiting is just too long - 45 ninutes !!!!
Spent the night looking for the waitress to bring drink refills and side dishes.
Ms Yi was so funny and very energetic! Food was delicious and the Dine LA price was exceptionally priced for the food.
Although the food and waitress were both excellent, I was extremely disappointed by the management actually. I had a reservation for six and called about an hour in advance to see if I could add a Judge and another lawyer to our table and was told that I could only do that if we pushed the reservation an hour and a half out. Because we couldn’t do that, I told the judge and the other attorney we couldn’t add them. I was totally insulted when we arrived and we were seated at a table for eight. I asked to speak to a manager bc I was so humiliated in front of my colleagues. The manager really didn’t care, basically insulted me about it at the table, and told me it wasn’t her decision to make but that they had 1200 guests to seat bc it was DineLA so I just had to deal with it. The restaurant did nothing about my concern, never asked or acknowledged my Lawrys Membership, and I was so upset about the whole thing I forgot to even ask for my points.
Best Dine LA
great place--solid dining experience--elegant, tasty, a little noisy as it's a huge room! Great place to go for special occasion!
Always an enjoyable evening with excellent food quality and superior service.
No taste. Meat tough, wrong cuts served... very disappointed even with the salad.
Had a reservation , but wasn’t seating until 45 mins after the reservation time. Others were being seated before us though they had arrived 10-15 mins after us. Had to request a manager to assist with being seated.
Been here several times, and they never let me down. My favorite steakhouse in LA.
The best experience I've had. Exceptional. Will be coming more often
Left dissatisfied. Expected much more from a $160 dinner.
Amazing and fun
Great food, awesome service from Sherman. Overall a wonderful evening of food and family. We have already planned a return trip.
You should definitely visit during LA Dine Week.
Wonderful food and wonderful service. Prime rib is cooked to perfection.
Old School Prime Rib done right. It just doesn't get any better than this.
My favorite prime rib place ever. My kids and I fo here all the time, very family friendly. Also a great place for an adult night as well. Prime rib is always amazing!
I've been dining at Lawry's The Prime Rib since childhood (1960s) and it's always been one of my favorite restaurants for food quality and celebrating special occasions. However, on this visit I was rather disappointed with the charges on our bill. Unfortunately my mother received and paid the bill while I was taking my child to the restroom, so I didn't have a chance to review the bill before it was paid, but I would have had the following complaints: 1) We ordered two $80 specials but were charged $90 for each, 2) we were charged $6 each ($24 total) for four dessert upgrades which I think is a bit excessive considering the desserts range from $7-$10, and 3) we were charged a Service Charge of $74.30 which is 23.6% of the pre-tax total (gratuity should be calculated based on the total before tax). Hence, my mother (who is struggling financially but wanted to treat me for my upcoming birthday) ended up paying about $48 more than I believe she should have.
While this experience won't prevent me from visiting Lawry's, it has certainly tarnished my image of the restaurant and I will definitely pay close attention to the charges on my bill from now on.
Anniversary....22 years! I was disappointed that the two servers we had didn’t recognize our anniversary. It wasn’t even busy! Dinner reservations where at 3:30. But the food and dessert was so delicious I didn’t feel like making a stink out of it.
Lawry's has always been a family favorite. We have been going to Lawry's for over 50 years! Always excellent service and the best prime rib in America! Can't wait to go again!
Awesome food and service.
Consistency is the word that comes to mind when thinking about Lawry's The Prime Rib. The incredible taste of the food, extraordinary service, and comfortable ambience that is consistently maintained, all add to the stellar dining experience.
