Mother’s Day dinner with the family. Service was poor. Food wasn’t what it used to be. The server charged us incorrectly and then triple charged us accidentally. I called Lawrys held on the phone for 45 minutes but no answer.
Lawrys has become a Mother's Day tradition for my mother and I. Our reservation was for 4:30. When we arrived, we were told if we wanted to eat inside, that would be another 45 minute wait. We were seated outside. It started to get cold, so we ate real quick. The food was great as usual, but was disappointed that we had to eat outside. I think that should be a choice when making the reservation, since you had to leave a $200.00 credit card deposit.
Creamed spinach and creamed corn is incredible!! The prime rib is great too. I do wish they had a more diverse menu but what they do have is great!
Feel pampered with good food, top service, amazing ambiance. Lawry’s honors its patrons.
We sat outside and the food came out cold.. quality also seems to have went downhill. Service was good but overall I felt like I got ripped off. Also paid $7 for a side of creamed corn and the portion was tiny....
Having gone to Lawrys over the years for many family celebrations, I am used to a certain environment and on this dining occasion it could not have been more different. Because of the pandemic, restaurants are obviously not seating at full capacity. But that notwithstanding, the atmosphere was depressing, the light were on full brightness and not dimmed to give any kind of ambiance, and there was no decoration whatsoever. The food as well was extremely disappointing.I had to send back my salmon Rockefeller because it had no taste whatsoever. Likewise, my friends end cut prime rib was completely without flavor. Nothing was seasoned. Nothing was tasty. It was a very disappointing - and expensive - dining experience and I will not be going back.
Classic old school Los Angeles. They have suspend their cart service to protect their amazing staff and the patrons, but the service and food is still impeccable. Can’t wait to go back!
Celebrated our wedding anniversary. Food and service is excellent. We loved it!
We had a lovely waitress, unfortunately we forgot her name, but she was very accommodating and pleasant! The food was also amazing! And Joe, the manager was great too! Very sweet and accommodating also, a real gentleman. Another great evening out. We are regulars for special occassions and enjoy it thoroughly!
excellent and would highly recommend to anyone and outstanding bang for the buck
Great experience...our server Tiffany was top notch and got us served in the allotted 2 hours of dining time.
The prime rib was not good. My last 2 visit in March was better
Reservation was 20 minutes late. Hostess was terrible. Robotic and perfunctory. Had no skills in handling backed up reservations. Food and service otherwise great.
I've been coming to Lawry's for 51 years for my birthday and I'ver always been treated well for those years. And that includes all the times it wasn't my birthday as well. I'm also a Platinum member of the VIP program, so I'm there often.
This visit the Manager made a hugh mistake. We had asked for certain seating requests, and I verified them earlier in the day. Then when we arrived, we found out that our requests, which had been confirmed earlier in that same day, were ignored. And no good reason was given. Amazing. I have never been treated like this! (And yes, I've been multiple times during Covid and this was not Covid related.
The Manager last Monday evening should be terminated. He does not seem to care about Lawry's reputation, long-term clients nor VIP Members. But he did make certain that he didn't have to work any harder than minimum for the night!
I would still recommend Lawry's HIGHLY - as long as Peter was the Manager running the place.
Great as always. You know the long tradition going in, and each time they give the same awesome food with the same outstanding service.
This is what we are all about! Thank you for sharing. Come back to see us again soon...
We have been dining at Lawry’s for about 50 years. Experience overall has always been excellent. I cannot say that for this most recent visit. Three of us had prime rib and two had salmon. The three of us asked for medium. All three of us got rare, not even close to medium. We had to ask for steak knives. Never had to do that before. The salmon was just ok. Nothing great. The salmon came out well before the prime rib. I insisted those with salmon, start eating before their meals got cold. The Yorkshire pudding came well after the 5 entrees were served. One person tried the Yorkshire pudding. It was burned. No one wanted it.
This experience was not what we were used to when dining at Lawry’s. Sadly to say, we had a new member to the family with us. He was not impressed.
I do not believe these issues had anything to do with COVID or any of the difficulties COVID has caused.
I went for the Sunday Brunch, and it’s was delicious 😋
Glad you enjoyed it! We are so happy to be back serving brunch on Sundays (more to come!)
Have always raved about Lawrys but what a disappointment this trip was. Had to sit outside which I didn’t like. I realize pandemic has changed our former way of life but Lawrys always had tradition going for it-spinning salad bowl, silver carving carts...limp salad with just lettuce and spinach...why no croutons??-meal just delivered on plates in cool outdoor air. Sourdough bread is still good. Overall:👎🏻
Lawry's always comes through with an exceptional meal, and wonderful service. It is our go to place for any special occasion.
We appreciate your loyalty! Thank you for the kind words. We hope to see you again soon...
The most unwelcoming restaurant. The hostess needs a lesson in hospitality. Making the pandemic an excuse, they treat you like they’re doing you a favor in giving you a table. They give you a strict two hour time limit, even if you get there within the 15 minute grace period as stated on your reservation confirmation. Your time starts from your reservation time and the hostess rudely makes this known to you without any exception. You’re left feeling rushed even though neighboring tables are empty. Unknowingly, we brought a birthday cake and the hostess again rudely turned her nose up and said we couldn’t have it because of covid. We said, “okay we don’t need to slice it, how about just for pictures?” Her response was even more exaggerated and rude stating they couldn’t even store it in the refrigerator for us. The cake was sealed in the box directly from the bakery! It had to sit with us at the table until the waiter felt bad and stored it in the kitchen . This restaurant is famous for their table side Caesar salad. They don’t do it anymore. They don’t even have Caesar salad on their menu. Overall, it’s a poor experience mainly because you are not getting the experience you’re paying for. Also, the hostess sets a very bad precedent to your dining experience.
Excellent service. The prime rib was delicious. Tender and just the way I like it(raw).
Happy to hear! Thank you for sharing.
The restaurant met our expectations. For being open during the pandemic, we had a great time.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Food is delicious, the experience will be perfect if you have a good waiter/waitress. The services used to be very satisfied but not this time. The waitress looks like not happy to serve us, ignored us and rushed to other tables. Feels like she'd rather to serve others if she has the choice.
Traditions that last and are simply special. It wasn’t our normal table side cart service and spinning salad experience but nevertheless Lawry’s never disappoints with impecable entrees and top notch service. We are all adjusting the post pandemic service style and Lawry’s manages to do it with quality and professionalism. Thank you for making my daughter’s birthday so special.
We love to see this - we appreciate your loyalty and are so glad we could help to make your daughter's birthday a very special one.
Best value for money around! Top marks for quality, service, ambiance and timeliness. This is our go to for the real celebrations in life and it never disappoints.
Thank you for including us in your celebrations!
Despite the rude hostess at check in who was very argumentative due to an error with my missing last name on reservation, we were not and did not let that spoil our otherwise excellent experience at Lawry’s. This was our first time out since lockdown. The waiter was excellent and the food was excellent as always!
We apologize for the issue upon check-in and will be looking into this. Thank you for your feedback. We are so happy your meal and experience ended up meeting your expectations!
Beautiful as always! Never a bad choice for a night out !
Glad to hear it! Hope to see you again soon...
The restaurant is a mere shadow of its former self. Very disappointing.
We are sorry to hear you had a less than Lawry's experience. We welcome any additional feedback you have if you'd like to reach out or message us.
As always, the food was wonderful! Our server was very nice. A very nice experience.
Thank you for sharing! We hope to see you soon...
Was great. We frequent the restaurant often. We missed some of the traditional service like the spinning salad bowl and table service but great try during Covid.
Glad to hear it! Hope to see you again soon...
It’s where we come once a year to celebrate our birthdays. It is so special!
Our server was extremely nice and the food was better than we could have imagined. We were there to celebrate a birthday but felt quite rushed at the end. Was not offered the dessert menu or coffee service.
Went in to have the dried Prime rib on our anniversary and our hostess was the most gracious the food was delicious and the drinks perfect what more can I say
Happy to hear it! Happy Anniversary!
was quite disappointed. My husband ordered steak medium rare and it came rare. Sent back and then it came well done. Sent it back and got the prime rib instead. His prime rib and mine were cut so thin and had lots of veins. I was really disappointed as I was looking forward to a nice piece of prime rib not some thin fatty piece
They’re not carving meat table side until Covid restrictions are lifted
After we had adjusted to all the California required Covid 19 regulations we were seated in a 2/3 empty dining hall. Our delightful waitress was quick to greet us and make us feel at home. After she had explained all the Covid and house regs she dropped the enforcer role and tried to make this a wonderful dining experience. She would have succeeded if only the food were up to the service level. The prime rib was undercooked from our order of medium rare, and was too much fat and not enough of the famous prime rib. This is not the Lawry's we have known for decades. Sorry to have to say, but at our table on that Tuesday evening it was not up to expectations.
Food was cold and untimed. Beverage was not what we ordered. No table side carving. Covid was the excuse. I left them feedback, zero response. Not the same Lawrys. If your going to follow all Guidlines and rules, even more than asked by city ordinance, your food, Bev and service better be on point. It was not. Still charged us full amount though?? Go figure.
we have been to Lawrys many times, i found the staff to be indifferent, complacent, and not focused on customer service. we are part of your VIP program, we drove from OC to go to dinner and celebrate my son's birthday. The seafood platter was just okay, didn't seem fresh. The dessert was terrible. The cake we ordered was actually cold. We were very disappointed in the staff, the lack of quality of service and the quality of a couple of items of food. We never had this happen before. We will still frequent the Five Crowns, but save the limo trip up in the future.
Great derive incredible food friendly atmosphere beautiful as well.
So glad you enjoyed it! Come back soon...
My boyfriend and I had heard amazing things about Lawry’s so we decided to splurge for my birthday. We got seated outside which was fine but it was pretty chilly and there were barely any heaters out for everyone. We started off with drinks, I ordered a Moscow mule and my boyfriend ordered a whiskey on ice. My drink came so watered down that all I could taste was vodka with water and a hint of ginger and he got his whiskey but no ice. I didn’t let that bother me because at the end of the day I came for the rave reviews about their steak cuts. We both ordered the same thing, the dry aged prime rib special. The order came out pretty quickly since the food was already prepared but let me tell you, that was the most disappointing steak I have EVER had. If I’d have known that’s what I was in for I would’ve just cooked at home. We could barely even cut the meat with how tough it was and half of it was just fat. We also had to ask for steak knives since none were given to us, it took them about 10-15 minutes to bring them out so once we did get them we were just eating cold, tough meat. To top it all off our server seemed like she didn’t even want to be there, maybe asked once how we were doing. Overall it was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. If I’m spending $300+ on a dinner I at least expect a good cut of meat and a decent drink.
