Lawry's The Prime Rib - Beverly Hills Ratings and Reviews
My family’s dinner at Lawry’s after a day in Burbank attending the Deluxe VIP tour of Warner Brothers Studios was nice. The entire staff was friendly and pretty swift attending to our needs (although did have to ask for refills on drinks). The spinning bowl salad, prime rib, lobster tails, mashed potatoes with gravy, creamed corn, and sundae desserts were all delicious. The restaurant has a classy, yet casual and energetic vibe. I was able to redeem about $200 worth of reward VIP points and gift card bonus cards for which Lawry’s should be commended in regards to rewarding customer loyalty. Overall, it was a very nice dinner and would return again in the future if in Las Angeles or any other location with a Lawry’s.
We made reservation when we got there. It was a Sunday night. Kind of busy, but we only waited for seat for 45mins. Make sure you use Open Table app to make reservation. it is much faster than the regular way. While we are waiting, we can get the free meat ball and it is delicious. Ms Yi is a great server. We like her service. The food are delicious. Of course the steak is out standing. We both love the sweet corns. The environment and atmosphere are relaxing and comfortable. The valet is $8 (Accept credit card payment) and worth the price because I don't need to wait or look for parking spot. Pick up the car within a minute. Great experience.
We’ve been dining there for long time and always enjoyed the foods except this event. Our server was not quite professional as normal staffs at Lawry’s. He never came and ask how we doing, very rushing everything and when he brings the salad, didn’t even spins like normally do, just mix with dressing and served. The pudding bread which is my favorite was burned, over cooked. It was a busy Sunday evening but he should be more pay attention to the guests.
Very disappointed with waiter. 2 people in the party didn't order prime rib, but lobster tails. They each asked for potatoes and never received them. If it was from the cart we didn't get it. Also, I understand there was a birthday cake ordered for me and it never arrived. It was a little disappointing for such a special occasion.
The rest of the staff was wonderful.
Very poor experience; we will not return. We went for my wife’s birthday, to a restaurant the kids would like. She remembers it fondly from childhood. Lawry’s used to be nice enough - good prime rib, excellent service, predictable, but well run. This is unfortunately no longer true. We had a party of 10 - we were crammed against other big parties, so most of us could not get in or out. The servers had to reach over us and ask us to pass plates because they could not reach some of us. We waited a half hour for salad, and the gap between the salad and the meat cart approached an hour, as we watched the adjacent table which came in after us, served long before us. That only because I finally got up and complained. Meanwhile our 2 1/2 year old grandson had melted down, and his parents took him home before the main course was done. One of the orders, a steak, had been forgotten. I had to pass soggy Yorkshire pudding by my hand to the back of the table, and the old days of asking if anyone wanted seconds are gone. After the main course we sat with dirty dishes and a soiled table until we complained, and once again we were asked to pass our plates because the bus person could not reach them. The birthday portion for the guest of honor was served to a dirty table, before dessert and coffee orders were taken - one of us , our daughter, was away from the table when this occurred. I left a normal tip, as people need to earn a living, although the service did not warrant it, cursory and sloppy.
I blame our experience mostly on management - an overcrowded restaurant crammed to the gills, with an inadequate and undertrained staff. Lawry’s has been allowed to deteriorate to maximize cash flow. It’s a piece of old LA, which, the way it is now run, is not worth keeping around.
Traditional elegance in vintage setting. Throw back to the 40s. Food outstanding. Tender prime rib cooked to perfection. Creamed corn and spinach like Ive never had. Great wine selections. Lobster tails excellent and no fuss. Served tableside. Excellent vegan options. Cappuccino and CC Browns sundae are ths bomb, if you have room for them. Friendly and homey waitstaff.
My husband and I arrived to our reservation on time, but some how we were never checked in. We waited over an hour to be seated, and that was only because a bar tender noticed we were waiting for a long time and told us to go ask the hostess what was the deal with our reservation. Although it was worth the wait, my husband and I should have never waited over an hour to be seated because we had a reservation. BTW, kudos to Zim ! He’s a great bar tender with excellent customer service.
Serving staff should be more alert for handicapped guests and provide proper walking access when serving other patrons. Meat was good however for the price the house cut has too much fat and sides should be included (at least 2 sides). Object to prompt for tip calculation - I gave 18% that I believe deserves at most 14 % considering a one course dinner. I guess I was in a good mood. Also I still can calculate percentages. Okay restaurant overall. Definitive plus is your decor still the same as 50 years ago - now a very nice relic. Leave it alone!
Arriving parties at disparate times, called to let them know I was running late, finally found my party already seated in the back; the host, the service, the food . Still one of the best prime ribs in the LA panorama. Keep it up Lawry’s.
And also one of the best martinis!
If you can splurge, this place never disappoints
We flew to LA a day ahead of a scheduled football game so that my husband could celebrate his birthday at Lawry's. (He is a native of Los Angeles and wanted to have dinner in his favorite LA restaurant - we are in you loyalty group). It was a very disappointing evening. Even though we had a reservation, we had to wait about 30 minutes to be seated. As long time Lawry's customers, we looked forward to the salad but it was nothing like the salads we had had in the past. It had hardly any dressing so our server must not have poured enough dressing on it or didn't toss it enough. The lettuce itself looked tired and wilted (unlike the salads at the table next to us). Our server, Shaefer (#1160), never came back to check on us so we were not able to tell him we needed more dressing or were not happy with the quality of the lettuce. I did not even finish my salad because it was lack luster. My husband's prime rib was good but mine was exceptionally fatty. Again, Shaefer did not check back so I could not complain. We ordered a $148 bottle of Justin Isosceles and aside from the original pouring, we poured the wine ourselves. At one point, I saw one of the other servers (had a beard) watch us pouring the bottle. Peter May came to our table before we left and we described our evening. He gave us his card and said to contact him the next time we wanted to dine at the restaurant (we live in Reno, NV, so don't get to LA more than a few times a year). As we were leaving the restaurant, we mentioned our disappointment above the evening to the hostess and she contacted the assistant manager who heard the details and said he was going to follow up with us by email because our Uber driver had arrived and we had to leave. We never received any follow up from him. I wanted my husband to have a lovely evening and was very upset that his birthday was so disappointing.
I love Lawry’s Prime Rib when you just want a good old fashioned meal. The wine selection was phenomenal and well-priced for such an establishment. Great place to catch up with friends regardless of the dietary restrictions and it’s actually more affordable than you think.
Lawry's is a true "institution"........for prime-rib lovers.
They have been consistently excellent for the past 40+ years we've dined.
Very 'old fashioned' traditions still observed.
A real treat for anyone desiring a great meal, friendly service and consistent high quality!
The bartenders, on our last visit, were the only low-point; they need a course in human relationships and attentive service.
I have been going to Lawry’s for about 40 years. First across the street and now at it’s present location. The personal service that Lawry’s extends to each and every person who walks through the doors has been consistent through out the years. The food has the same wonderful taste. The service at the table has been excellent and everyone there wants to share Lawry’s hospitality during your stay. Thank you Lawry’s for maintain such high standards.
We have probably been to Lawrys 50-70 times over the past 30 years. This was the one disappointing time. We sat with dirty plates for 10-15 mins. We had to ask for someone to clear them away. We had to stop and ask the manager for water. We definitely did not get treated in the usual manor and when we mentioned to the server that we thought she had forgotten us she just kinda laughed it off.
Unfortunately, I felt like dinner was a tourist attraction as opposed to a high end restaurant. Dress code was not followed nor enforced. Come the end of the night, it ended up not being a special dinner. Could of had the same experience going to the Cheesecake factory.
While the food was delicious our experience was not. Even with reservations we were seated 40 minutes late even after mentioning several times to the host that we had show tickets and were on a schedule. Once we were seated without so much an an apology the person who seated us, when I told her we now only had an hour to have our meal with our party of 14 seemed to not care. Our server came and was good about trying to get us started but seemed to forget our time crunch as the evening wore on. Food was good, our server was friendly but we were there for my husbands birthday and we had to rush our beautiful meal because they seated us so late without so much as a sorry. Very disappointing experience for such a special occasion.
We have been going to Lawry’s for over 50! Years. All 6 of we’re disappointed on Saturday. Salad was drowning in dressing and the prime rib portions were not true to their size. Diamond Jim Brady cut was so thin that we complained and they gave us an extra slice. All slices were unusual as to their size. Baked potato came almost 10 minutes after the meat was served. Not up to Lawry’s standards☹️
We love this restaurant the only thing that had changed were the peas . They used to be fantastic and now they are truly awful . The server stated they changed the way they did the Peas to have a better product but they did fail on this. Everything else was wonderful as usual.
