Even though it might not be the coolest of the East Village Italian restaurants, Lavagna is right up there with the best.
A neighborhood favorite!
Been going here since the place opened 19 + years ago. The restaurant is still going strong even after all these years. All dishes our wonderful including the pastas, ravioli and all fish on the menu. Save room for dessert.
Loved everything! Great pasta and great service. Will return.
Hidden in the East Village, Lavagna is an excellent choice for authentic Italian food in a cozy, rustic setting.
Always a great place to go. Friendly service and lively, cozy atmosphere. Nice outdoor feel with windows open when the weather gets nicer.
First off, hat tip to our waiter Roy. Very knowledgeable waiter who knew everything about everything I asked and responded intelligently and with much respect.
I had reservation for two with my date, but waited a couple minutes. No big deal because its a beautiful night and the place was packed! Still looked really sexy and romantic with the dim lighting.
It was beautiful out this past weekend, and Friday was a nice night so we decided to sit outside which was the best idea.
Ordered cocktails and our meals.
Octopus carpaccio - top notch.
Fig cheese something - great appetizer
Kale caesar salad - nothing crazy honestly.
Ramp risotto Special Entrée - If i could lick the plate I would have. Great dish. Its a seasonal dish, and they change that special so if you have the chance to go there, get it.
Ravioli Entrée - Great dish. The sauce and ingredients you can taste everything in it.
Dessert Pana Cotta - Really good.
Being in the hospitality/restaurant industry myself, I can appreciate a great dining experience. Thanks for everything and we will be back. Cheers. 👍🏻

LAVANGA is a wonderful Italian Restaurant
We were impressed with the food and service as well as the Space which was homey and felt like a little bit of Tuscany.
We had a great Kale Caesar salad to start and Pan Seared Monkfish and A Fettuccini pasta special. The food was perfectly prepared and presentation was lovely.
The cocktails and wine was yummy.
Our server was attentive and helpful.
Highly recommend Lavagna.
Anniversary dinner. We have been going to Lavagna for 15+ years and it has remained consistently amazing.
Great food and service! We’ll be dining here again.
Food fantastic, staff very friendly and knowledgeable- wonderful gem of a restaurant. Hadn't been there in a while but waiter not only remembered me, he remembered what I like to eat!
Warm, welcoming, comfortable atmosphere. The personnel could not have been better. Loved our experience. The food was divine!
Left my credit card. I was contacted within minutes. They went the extra mile in every aspect.
Love this place. Food is spectacular.
Menu is seasonal and always changing. A little loud/crowded on weekend nights but who can blame people for wanting to squeeze in for some of the best dining in the city.
The scallops were good but the polenta that came with it was even better. The white pizza special was ok. The homemade pasta was phenomenal.
Delicious and wonderful !
Always great on all fronts at Lavagna
Incredible pasta and ambiance
Wonderful hospitality. Lovely room. Consistently amazing food.
Such a fun find in NYC. Great food and so accommodating. Love to come here when I visit NY.
Having been to Lavagna many times, I figured there were no surprises left. I was wrong. A snapper (for two) served with spinach, potatoes, and tomatoes was on special. As it is presented whole and flaming from the kitchen, the entire dining room stops to look. It is then taken back to the kitchen and de-boned. The taste was amazing. I had no doubt that that snapper was alive that morning. As always, the wine list is extensive and rivals any upscale steakhouse.
Delicious as always, thanks again.
Came to catch up with some friends. Even though we had the table at the front of the entrance it was actually just great. We were a little bit away from the rest of the diners which doesn’t mean much in this extremely intimate restaurant with tables packed right next to each other. It makes for a loud atmosphere.
We had pretty heavy meals all weekend and were opting for a lighter fair. Went with the salad and fresh pasta which was just perfect. But the thing of note was the apple tart with butterscotch and vanilla ice cream. A decadent twist to a traditional dessert which combined all my favorite comforts...this was my favorite.
Really Loved this place
Great old world dining...everything you need for a wonderful dinner experience
Went there on Saturday night. Thankfully we had a reservation but we still had to wait about 20 minutes. The place is small and very popular. The manager/owner? was wonderful as we discussed what chenin blanc to drink. We opted for an interesting italian wine rather than south african (given that we were in an Italian restaurant). The appetizers of scallops and octopus carpaccio were good. My husband loved his rigatoni with sausage and I enjoyed the rabbit paparadelle. The gelato, particularly the chocolate, was delicious. Great place in East Village.
My husband and I had dinner here last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. We started with the octopus carpaccio and the artichoke heart appetizers. Both were lovely. I am not generally a fan of octopus, but Lavagna made a convert out of me! Our mains were equally as good - we each had a pasta dish - the rabbit dish from the menu and a boar dish that was one of the specials. Again, the food was very tasty, and the portions reasonable. By the time we finished our meal we were both full, but had little remaining on our plates (a good thing when you are not in a position to take leftovers home!)
The service was as good as the food, and the space was very cozy and charming. We will definitely return on our next visit to NYC!
Always great food and wine. The best service in the city.
If you want to feel transported to a quaint yet funky (in the good sense of the word) place in Italy you should try this place. The chef does a special twist on ingredients and preparations that you might have to pay much more for in a different restaurant. The pork chop was the best I have ever eaten, ever. The codfish was overcooked and meh. the escarole salad was superb except for the raw basil leaves which I picked out. Raw basil is too bitter. The service is efficent, not warm or friendly.
Always a great choice and good food
Always love Lavagna. The Rigatoni is my go-to and it never disappoints.
I live in Brooklyn and eat a lot of Italian food. Go here. End of story. The food, the people, the wine, is special.
Cosy surroundings, great enthusiastic staff and lovely food. Ideal for a date night.
Lavagna knows a restaurant should be. The food is consistently excellent and the staff should give workshops on how to run a restaurant. The wine list rivals any upscale steakhouse. Selections from all over the world and a wide price range. Never disappoints. I'll be back!
Went on a Tuesday night. It was not crowded. I assume Friday's & Saturday's will be crowded. They have limited outdoor seating. My daughter & her boyfriend recommended this restaurant and we all will return!
The best, as always, second to none. Amazing atmosphere, amazing food and great people.
This place is a quaint and charming place. Food was great. We will be back.
Our waiter helped us to pick a wine and gave great and honest suggestions about the food. We had the special tuna appetizer, the scallops, and 2 types of pasta. Everything was delicious. The venue is small but has lots of energy and always packed. A wonderful neighborhood gem!
Always a great time at Lavagna. Although it gets crowded and a little tight, the servers are very welcoming and the food stellar. Can't wait to go back.
