Friends were in town from Tampa and wanted to try somewhere new in DC. I found Lavagna on Open Table and liked the menu. Then I saw half priced bottles of wine on Sundays - and we were planning on a Sunday dinner so that sold me. The food was delicious. Get the scallop appetizer and the bacon appetizer. My lamb ragout was amazing. We had a great time just chatting over our food and wine - highly recommend.
I went with some friends for brunch and had a great time! Our server was friendly and so attentive. I can't wait to go back!
First time at Lavagna, and i was very pleased with the experience. The Food was very good, and they had an extensive wine and cocktail list. I had the parpadalle shrimp, which was very good; the sauce was a little thin for my taste, and needed to have more of it. The rigatoni pesto was incredible, definitely suggest that! Our waiter was very attentive and had a great knowledge of the menu and wine selections.
We all loved the pasta!
As always Lavagna never disappoints. Food is always fresh and tasty and the best bottle of Lambrusco I can find in the DMV!!!!
Exceptional food, standout service, wonderful value. So happy to have discovered this neighborhood gem on Barracks Row. Menu brings together the best of Italy with the best of mid-Atlantic food and agriculture. Delicious ingredients beautifully prepared with generous portions for a reasonable price. A unique combination--especially in DC. One member of our party has several food allergies and they graciously and artfully worked around each of them to prepare a beautiful meal that everyone could enjoy.
Cozy neighborhood spot with great food, excellent wait staff, just all-around good! Pastas are great, salads good, sides amazing! Desserts were tasty.
Great service! Amazing mascarpone pancakes!
Had Sunday brunch here and the food was delicious. The bottomless mimosa's were a bargain at only $12! The service was exceptional, attentive waiter, quick service, friendly staff. However it was very, very loud. So many people were talking in the small area where we were seated that you had to raise your voice to be heard above them, then they raise their voices, then you raise your voice, and on and on, so yeah, a bit loud. But I would still recommend it since the food, service and price are a deal for Sunday brunch in the Capitol Hill area.
My wife and I were in town from Colorado and wanted to find someplace fun for dinner. We were able to make our reservation online very easily. The food was very good and we certainly would recommend it to friends.
Wonderful brunch! Had the Eggs Florentine: perfectly cooked eggs on top of two pieces of thick focaccia bread with a light mornay sauce. Came with some cooked spinach on the side and house potatoes. Others in our group had the Salmon Omelet; also very good. Drinks were great. Highly recommend the bottomless Mimosas ($12) and the Bloody Eddy (Bloody Mary made with house produced horseradish vodka-yum!).
Service was excellent.
The food was amazing and the service was fantastic! Food is always fresh and in abundance. Great location. Highly recommend. Always a wonderful meal !!!!
This is a great spot for brunch! The food was amazing and you can’t beat the unlimited mimosas for $12!
My girlfriend and I went to Lavagna for dinner on Valentines day earlier this week. The tables were sitting so close together it seemed like the other couples next to us might as well join in our the conversation. The large younger group seated by our tables basically did. They were extremely loud when we were there attempting to have a romantic dinner .
The waitress took 20 minutes to bring any bread after dropping off our soup which was cold by then. Rarely would she come by to check out water glasses. We might've each had 1-2 more glasses of wine at dinner if she would've checked with us more regularly. When it came to dessert, they ran out of the chocolate breading pudding we wanted to try. I don't mind paying more money at nice restaurants on special occasions, but I expect the service and environment to be much more suitable. Especially on Valentines day.
Both of the Rigatoni Bolognese and the Bell & Evans Chicken were delicious!
Great food, but Valentine's menu was a bit overpriced and didn't include a cocktail/wine option.
We went for the valentines day special. I was a little late but my husband and daughter seated so that was awesome. Our waitress was awesome. The food was okay. We each had one of the selections off the pri fixe menu. We were not that impressed with the food based on the reviews I was expecting a little more. It was a great value and I am glad we tried this place but not sure if we wil return.
This was perfect. The food was amazing and the staff was great! I can’t wait to come back again!
Lavagna never fails to deliver great food. I met 5 colleagues for Sunfay Brunch. We each had something different and everyone enjoyed their meal. I will say the fruit plate is HUGE! You definitely get your money's worth.
The mimosas are always good with more champagne than OJ. You wouldn't know it's premixed in a pitcher. It's $12 or $15 (cant remember) for 2 hours and they are more than happy to keep topping off your glass (without you stalking the server).
I will definitely return soon.
This was delicious. Local foods perfectly prepared. Fabulous service! Made our celebration the best. Highly, highly recommend.
Delicious brunch and outstanding service.
As always the food and service were fantastic!
Got the braised short rib. I’m pretty sure they dropped the asparagus on the way over as I only had 2. Were they decoration? It would be hard to believe that they were as there were no other vegetables on the plate, just a short rib, some apple sauce and 2 apples. Also, the short rib was a little over cooked. Not impressed.
Best Lobster Risotto and Spaghetti Bolognese ever!!!
Choose Lavagna for a pre-theater meal and we were not disappointed. Good service, drinks and the food was excellent. We will definitely return.
So I got there late, but my party was there on time and seated. The server was visibly annoyed with me and wasn’t very welcoming(awesome way to spend my birthday). I asked for a mimosa and proceeded to was for quite a while,he actually forgot and it wasn’t until I got his attention that he remembered. We tried to lighten the mood and joke w/him,however he didn’t even smile at any of us. For a second we thought it was directed at only us,but after watching his interaction w/other tables,it seemed like that’s just him. If you are incapable of being hospitable then being a server is the wrong field. The food was actually good, but his attitude simply ruined the experience for us.
Chandler took great care of me and the chef provided a delicious meal.
The service was excellent. The food was just ok. The fried ravioli was a bit bland and the sauce it came in has a very smokey flavor. Same for my meal as well as my partners- all of the food had a smokey flavor which didn’t compliment the meal. We wouldn’t return.
We couldn’t get a reservation at another restaurant and started looking at others close by. Lasagna was a great find! We loved every bit of our experience. The food was delicious (shrimp with paparadelle) and the waiter was super attentive. We left knowing we’d be back again!
Nice Italian fare, with very large portions. We had a salumi, calamari, three pasta dishes, tiramisu and chocolate pudding (restaurant week offerings). More than enough food for four. We were three. Next day lunch.
It was my birthday, and I hoped to be treated specially, and that didn't happen. After dinner, the waiter asked what I wanted for dessert. I said "Oh, it's my birthday." He said that he knew but that they had three desserts, and which did I want. I ordered, and my friend ordered. He brought the dessert with a candle stuck in mine and said "Happy birthday. I don't sing" rather matter-of-factly. I have to say that something was missing there.
It didn't seem like a real Italian-American restaurant to me. The food was good, but I think the portions tended to be small--especially the dessert. My cheesecake was very sweet like it came out of a box. My friend's chocolate pudding looked like it came in a Nyquil-cap sized glass.
My friend said her spaghetti was very good, and it looked good. My ravioli was good, but I think I should have gotten at least three cheese ravioli--not two. Also, it had too much sauce on it--as though I would mistake the sauce for pasta.
love this place - we live near Annapolis and this is always worth the drive.
Bottomless mimosas are always a classic at Lavagna. Also the spaghetti carbonara is amazing. I cannot recommend this place enough! Be sure to make a reservation for brunch - otherwise you'll definitely be waiting.
The server, Mario, was excellent. He was very welcoming, knowledgeable of the food, preparation, and wines. He checked in at perfect times and made sure that we were havin a great time.
Great wine list and delicious food.
Great food and excellent service. Nice ambiance, half price wine on Sunday nights.
Great place for a date or special occasions. I took my wife there for her birthday and she loved the place. She ordered the pappardelle shrimp and it was cooked perfectly. I had the filet mignon with garlic mashed potatoes & asparagus, which were amazing. Prices were very reasonable. The wait staff are friendly and personable.
I’ve been here a bunch of times for brunch and dinner. The mascarpone pancakes are my fave! I wish the bottomless brunch limit was 2 hours instead of 1.5 but there is plenty to do in the neighborhood, so you can always find somewhere else to go to close by after brunch is over.
Great for a spur of the moment date night! The tiramisu was great for sharing as well.
Reliably satisfying food, good cocktails, wine selection, very attentive and pleasant servers. Only one suggestion- the focaccia type bread is very tasty but it would be nice to have an additional choice for those on the table who might prefer a less greasy option
