Service was lousy! We had to pour our own champagne after the first pour. One of my guests didn't even have a full table setting. Flagging down a server was exhausting. Made me appreciate the rotunda so much more!
My birthday was happily celebrated with afternoon tea. Thank you and I will return ❤️
Five star prices, two star experience. The menu is too limited, the ambience is underwhelming, and the food just isn't all that good.
Overall it was good. Sandwiches were nice. Tea could have been better.
The hotel itself is pretty, but the restaurant seems to be in need of updating. Service wasn't spectacular and their lunch menu was very sparse.

We've been enjoying their Easter Brunch for many years. Unfortunately last year they started paring back the buffet offerings, which was disappointing. Thinking it might have been a "one time thing", we went again this year. Sadly, even more options removed. No eggs benedict. No bacon. No sausage. No muffins. No pancakes. No waffles. Couldn't find one single thing with chocolate in it. Tiny bowl of berries. Definitely slants more towards lunch items. And to top it off, huge decline in service. By everyone, not just our server. Worst example was a "management type" younger guy walking around trying to look busy, but doing nothing. Passed us numerous times leaving empty plates and glasses on our table. It feels as if there is new ownership/management? Not sure, but the whole vibe is different.
A couple of good things though: the piano player was awesome. And the ambiance is outstanding. Fortunately the management has not done anything to that yet.
Needless to say, will will not be back. Time to start a new tradition elsewhere.
I took my mom here for afternoon tea, for her birthday. Such a lovely experience! The ambiance was wonderful, and luxurious. The staff were welcoming and attentive (the hostess took our photo before we left, and went above and beyond). They surprised my mom (and me!) with a special birthday dessert, complete with a candle. Will definitely go back again!
I asked for a napkin and received 3 napkins stacked together near me. I passed out the napkins to my guests. I ordered a soy latte and the server bought the cup without a saucer which I had to ask for. I asked for 3 spoons to share my dessert and the placement of the spoons was not right. The restaurant really needs to focus their training on the details of world class service. After all it is the Fairmont.

Usually eat here before or after the Bay Area Cabaret. Miss the Buffet. Pre Fix Meal not as good. We have been selecting food from the menu. Food is always good. Service is not as good on the bar side of the restaurant.
The afternoon tea service at Laurel Court was very good. The Server was attentive and friendly. The food was excellent. You can tell that the sandwich items and baked goods (scones) were handmade and not bought off the shelf somewhere. The only issue is the tea itself. How can afternoon tea be in a tea bag :O!!! Authentic afternoon tea should be loose leaf. That was the only disappointing thing out of the whole experience. Luckily, the food saved the day.
It was so cold in there most people kept their jackets on. They seemed short staffed. The few servers there would disappear for 10-15 minutes, then suddenly reappear and scurry around to everyone apologizing. They should’ve known since there were events in the hotel that night. It’s a shame since it was otherwise a pleasant space and the food was good.
High tea at the Fairmont is a wonderful experience something everyone should try. Great tea and wonderful finger foods.
This was our second visit to this place. We had first been here for our anniversary last November. We ordered the LC burger. I had left a review that it was the best burger I had ever had. We were excited to go back and experience this deliciousness again. But unfortunately that was not this visit. We had reservations and was seated quickly. Since we knew what we wanted we ordered our burger immediately. We were not in a hurry, just enjoying each others company and started to notice everyone around us not only being served but finishing their meals and ours still not arriving. 45 mins after being seated we asked our waiter about our food. Another 10 mins and we finally get served but notice the orders (both of them!) Were not correct before they even put on the table. Another 10 mins and they come back with an overcooked burger and my side was still incorrect. I asked to just leave the burger at this point bc I was starving and we had to leave soon to leave for a concert. Service was not good, food was not good ( husband got through half of his dry burned burger). All in it was a completely opposite experience we originally had. We had truly expected that same level and instead we were left with disappointment. Based on this last service I would not recommend either for service or food.
The setting feels like an upscale Holiday Inn restaurant. The food was hot and miss, scallops and the chicken wings are winners, but the cauliflower soup and steak both needed salt.
We had a wonderful tea time. Beautiful setting! Staff was friendly and attentive.
We are a group of five and we enjoyed the afternoon tea. It is a set of the dessert including a decent tea. The food quality is great.
The service is fine.
We think it is a good value. We will come back again.
stumbled upon the Laurel looking for LATE NIGHT BITE TO EAT. FOUND THE RESTAURANT TO BE OPEN WILLING TO SEAT A TABLE OF 5 (WITH KIDS) AND VERY ACCOMMODATING TO BOTH OUR NEEDS AND REQUESTS. Had a fabulous late night supper and decided to return for breakfast where we were equally impressed with the breakfast buffet selection and ambience. We will happily return next visit to San Francisco!
Very slow service but good food!
Quiet, good drinks. Good wine list. Nice starters, but they can add up quickly.
The service was terrible. It took 20 minutes between sitting down and them taking our order (it wasn't crowded). Once tea was ordered we had to flag them down to order champagne (that came right away). We had each been through 3 pots of tea (at least an hour) before they brought the food. The sandwich bread was stale. And while the room is beautiful, it just didn't make up for the lackluster service and food. I won't be choosing the Laurel Court for my next special event.
regretably I had higher expectations, ie, tablecloths on tables, fancier dineware, cozys on tea pots, and prettier furniture, the tables were like barn little tables, the savories were a bit dry, and we were not served the bean and the other salad advertized, i noticed when we got home,, and also just did not measure up,,, sorry, as the HOTE is still beauatiful and elegant,, the people in the TEA Room very nice, however, I imagine, been so large, they had to omit the pretty,,, oh well, will try to find a place, where HI TEA is served as ENglish like,,, chintz tablecloths, nice tea pots, and table ware, etc, soo, overall, it was just like having tea anywhere by the road, except the elegance of the building saves the day,,

We had afternoon tea there. Most everything was delightful, classy, and pleasant. You don't go for the food, but rather the experience. My only beef about the place was that it was unclear that the price would be $120/person fixed price - before taxes and tip. The website made it look like they had two tea options - the regular tea for $55/person and the holiday tea. It was unclear that the only option on Jan 1 was the holiday tea. The menu did not state the price anywhere. I don't think the price is worth it during that time. I can eat at Chez Panisse for less and much better. I would go back during the regular afternoon tea pricing though.
For a place like this and taken the price into consideration the food was very disappointing - simply not good and very overpriced.
When I booked this reservation online I told them that my wife and I were on our honeymoon. They gave us champagne and a beautifully crafted dessert to celebrate our marriage. Food and drinks were amazing. Service was a little bit slow (not too sure if thats because I am used to the NYC and SF is more laid back) but it allowed my wife and I to take a step back and enjoy the night at this restaurant.
A holiday celebration lunch for four at an iconic place. A must at Christmas just to see The Fairmont all gussied up. The restaurant is old school beautiful. Started with wine and cocktails..a nice selection and beautifully presented. We split 2 gruyere popovers. Delicious but a little pricey..and just 2 little smears of butter on the side. We all had salads..Nicoise, chopped, and one with grains. You can add a protein like salmon or chicken. All delicious. The menu is limited but everything on it was appealing. I recommend using the Park Whiz app to find parking. I paid 9.00 for across-the-street valet parking for 6 hours. I will definitely return next Christmas.
I made the reservation for high tea and was told after we got there that tea was finished. Very large group of very disappointed people. And we were staying in the hotel.
Horribly overpriced. We went for afternoon tea on Dec 26th (a Tuesday) and it was nice, but when the bill came, we were shocked that it came to $1,000 for five adults and two small children. That’s more expensive than the Ritz in London! They had cheekily charged the weekend rate even though it was a Tuesday and they included a massive service charge.
The food and service was fabulous, but we were heartbroken when we received the bill. We heard online that tea time was $45 per person, but when our party of 3 got the bill it was $440. Our jaws dropped. We weren’t aware of the holiday prices when we booked, and we wish the price would have been listed somewhere on the menu or on the sign up front or we wouldn’t have eaten there. We’d never spent that much on food in our life! We went the day after Christmas, and had already spent a lot on gifts and just wanted to do something small and special. We didn’t expect to spending 1/3 a month of rent on tea and sandwiches. We still have a pit in our stomachs at how much it cost!
Seriously, this was a biggest ripoff ever. The food is mediocre at any price but at $119 a person?? The "gingerbread" aspect of this special holiday tea consisted of children being given a gingerbread cookie to decorate. The restaurant is fine but absolutely nothing special as far as hotel restaurants. Also the tea itself is completely low quality and was not even served with decent hot water. Save your money and go to a restaurant where you can get a great meal for $119!
When I booked it wasn’t clear I was booking afternoon tea. Cost for 4 with automatic tip was $600...ridiculous amount for what you get, quality and quantity-wise. Would not recommend.
This tea service was very nice, but underwhelming for the price paid ($119 per person). I understand it's San Francisco, but the same service would be max $50 in most other states. WHen I booked this reservation, I had no idea how much the tea service would cost since there are no prices anywhere on the website. They were quick to accommodate dietary needs for the tea sandwiches- I got a vegetarian plate for myself and my mom got a piscatarian one. Our waiter wasn't as attentive on bringing us extra tea/water as one would expect. We got two teapots each, but we would have taken more if we didn't have to flag someone down for every refill. Overall, it was a nice thing to do for my mom's Christmas visit but I wouldn't do it again.
We treated ourselves to afternoon tea on Christmas Eve. The reservation was booked in advance, before the Christmas tea menu was available on the website. Had I known about the significant price increase for Christmas Eve, I would have booked elsewhere. The ambiance was amazing, but the quality and service of the tea was not appropriate for the crazy high price.
I had been to thre Christmas Fairmont Tea earlier in December. This was to be a reservation for Christmas Tea with my daughter and me at the Fairmont on 12-22-17. The only way to reserve was through Open Table and I believed a tea was booked. I tried phoning the Fairmont to confirm this was a tea and never had messages returned. When we arrived, we learned that the Christmas tea was only in the afternoon. We had a very mediocre lunch and was quite pricey.
Beautiful decorations. Food was very good and plentiful. Good bar drinks. Always a pleasure to dine at The Laurel Court.
We were a party of 12 with 6 of us being Gluten Free and Vegetarian and were pleased that they offer Gluten Free bread and several non-meat options. Service very friendly.
can't comment on the food, never got chance to try it. Booked in for afternoon tea via their website. They only had two late booking available 5pm or 5.15pm. Opted for 5pm. Got there, maitre d' took us to a dirty table and rushed off to get a waiter to clean it leaving us standing around like lemmings as other diners ate. We get seated and it took a while for a waiter to come to us. I asked to see the afternoon tea menu. 'it ends at 3pm' me: 'then why was I allowed to book a table for 5pm? if it ends at 3pm?' he fetches the manager. Standoffish, grumpy and a look of thunder about her. She says the same thing. I pull out my phone, on the website and the actual page where it say's 'book afternoon tea now' there's a link. She takes my phone and proceeds through about 3 pages to a times list. Me; that's not the point. If it's on the actual page to book the actual dinner I shouldn't then have to flick through pages to check the timetable. And if it says 'book afternoon tea now' then I shouldn't be able to book after 3pm. Opentable only operates under what you give them' as apparently opentable is not their best of friend. Awful service and never got to try the food. So no, I don't recommend this place at all.
A Holiday tradition marred by the ghastly menu change and lack of proper staffing. Upon arrival, the lone hostess was engaged in a lengthy discussion with potential patrons while a line backed up of those of us with reservations. We were greeted with an assumption that we were there for tea. When I advised her that our reservation was for lunch, she commented that 1PM was "tea time". I advised her that "tea time" is 3PM. When we were . seated our table was set for tea. When a server arrived with champagne, I advised her that we were there for lunch and to please remove the tea settings. When we checked out the lunch menu, I was aghast at the change. Our waiter, advised that this was due to the new chef's concept. The salads were the only items that had any appeal. While nicely presented, but tasteless. The only semblance of confit in my faux duck confit salad was the olives. The wonderful assorted bread basket has been discontinued. The server suggested the menu popovers at 2 for $10. I told him NM's Rotunda restaurant provides as many as you can eat for FREE!. Also, there were only 2 waiters for the entire room. The change in ownership certainly does not bode well for the Fairmont.
Great omelet from the buffet, beautiful pastries, fresh fruit and fresh squeezed orange juice. Pancakes from the menu were ok. Wait staff a little slow. Very festive Christmas decorations. Prices a little high.
