A little pricey but excellent - very satisfied - will recommend
Food was just ok and wine selection by sommelier disappointed. My lobster was chewy, my husband’s sole was the driest, over cooked sole we’ve ever tasted. Washingtonian 100 Best? How???
Took my mom and brother for lunch and it was very special! Service is impeccable and incredibly fresh and unique dishes. Special diet for one of us was graciously and creatively accommodated.
Fun aperitifs also!
Amazing food and service. Decorations are a bit dated.
Expensive but worth going there for special occasions.
Chez Francois never fails to provide excellent food, a charming ambiance, and superb service. With a roaring fire on a chilly spring day, it was a treat to get away from the traffic and noise to enjoy a good food with friends. Always consistent, and always enjoyable.
A wonderful experience that was highlighted by an attentive wait staff, well-paced dishes, and excellent cuisine. I highly recommend this restaurant as it was perfect for our special occasion.
This place was absolutely amazing. Excellent staff!
Everything I have heard about this restaurant is true. That is why it is been around the area since 1952 and in this location since 1976. They have a great variations in food and an excellent bistro/bar also. I wonderful place for a special occasion. We look forward to our return
Wonderful ambiance and cozy to share special time with friends and loved ones. the service is always impeccable and it's just consistently the nicest, most intimate place to go out. The one downside is that the food is wicked salty so it tends to kill the natural flavors some. avoid the soups if you are watching your salt level but definitely go for the soufflé for desert. it's divine.
On special occasions, I have dined at L'Auberge Chez Francois about once a year. This visit was for a gathering of six family members. We loved the atmosphere and the dining: from the appetizers to desert, our various meals were wonderful. A special treat was the beef cheeks appetizer.
Though there is a fabulous wine list, we were able to find a reasonable and lovely choice.
My family members were extremely pleased with the evening; and I was thrilled to host them.
L'Auberge Chez Francois is still my favorite restaurant in the DC area. Great food, great service, very comfortable. I've been going since the 1980s and still always love going back.
Awesome as always! Our favorite restaurant, especially Samy!
Food was excellent, but we were disappointed with the wine, which the waiter recommended. Next time I'll make the selection.
Elegant restaurant, delicious food, exemplary staff.
Wonderful as always, ambiance, food & service, all great
This used to be our fav destination for special events but we hadn’t been there in 15 years. The place lost its charm and felt ‘dated’ (both the menu and the ambiance). It doesn’t “feel” French anymore and the price of the menu relative to its lack of originality was disappointing. There are other restaurants in DC with much more appealing atmosphere and offerings
Excellent experience in all respects. Very happy with the food, service, and ambience.
Our lunch was great as always at Chez Francois, excellent food, good portions and outstanding service. It is a little bit pricey, but not out of the question for a special occassion.
They start your meal with the best garlic bread you have ever tasted and end it with a selection of great desserts. Everything in between is equally good.
I recommend that you give them a try.
Outstanding every way for that special occasion. Even more impressive: because of a severe storm they had been operating on generator power for more than a day, but from the food, the service and the ambiance, you would never know they were under that kind of stress.
This was probably one of the best meals I’ve ever had. We moved back to the area from New Orleans and this rivals any of the top restaurants in New Orleans. Everything was was done to perfection.
At L’Auberge Chez François one cannot have less than a great experience. It is a wonderful restaurant. Their four-course lunch menu offers great choices. Everything is excellent, making it so very hard for their guests to choose from their many delicacies! It is definitely a top restaurant in the Washington Metropolitan area.
The setting, service and cuisine will transport you to the area around Strasbourg, France. The pace is genteel and the preparation delectable. Go for a weekday lunch or special occasion dinner and expect to be enchantee.
We would give L’Auberge 10 Stars in all categories! A wonderful 2 hour lunch with outstanding service, exceptional food. . .our favorite restaurant in The DC Metro area.
The restaurant is a standby for the best Alsatian food. It never disappoints.
It was very nice from start to finish.
Exquisite. Incredible staff, food, and service.
I've dined at L'Auberge Chez Francois many times over the past 30 years and have never been disappointed. The chateaubriand for two was terrific. The wine list offered extensive options and reasonable prices, so getting a b0ttle of Oregon pinot to pair with the chateaubriand and a half-bottle of Sancerre to go with sea bass (there were three of us) was no problem. Trendy restaurants come and go, but the timeless quality of food and service at L'Auberge amply demonstrate why this restaurant has outlasted many, many erstwhile competitors.
We have dined here a number of times over the last thirty years. This place never disappoints. The food is consistently very good. They offer a nice mix of classic and innovative presentations. We went for Sunday lunch to celebrate my girlfriend's birthday. The Prix Fixe menu is a very reasonably priced version of most of their dinner menu. I highly recommend !
We have gone to Chez Francois for over 30 years and have always found the restaurant to be the best. The food is wonderful, the preparation impeccable and the staff is always very friendly and efficient. It is definitely our favorite restaurant.
Food was amazing! Service was amazing! Love the ambience.
Great place to take your significant other on a romantic dinner. It serves a great 4 course meal so don’t over indulge on the bread!
I had heard great things about this place for years. My boyfriend took me here for my birthday and it was one of the best meals I've had in the DC area. Each food item was delicious and the staff spaced out when we would receive each food in such a way that we were never waiting too long (I would recommend to plan for a 2 hour meal). We each had 2 drinks, I had an upgraded dessert and after tax and tip it was about $275. It is well worth it!
Great service and enjoy the fixed price menu that varies on selection and quite a selection. Food is fantastic and well proportioned. Staff is just the right attentive and you can tell experienced
Great Alsatian restaurant. Expensive but worth it. Great ambiance for an intimate dinner.
I've been enjoying Chez Francois since the early 90s. It's always an amazing dining experience, but this recent visit was OUTSTANDING due to the exceptional service offered by David. My husband and I were celebrating our first anniversary and David could not have been more attentive (without being overbearing) or charming--funny without being too familiar. Next time we go to Chez Francois, we will definitely be requesting David by name!
Service could not have been more outstanding. Our waiter was patient with the five of us, two of whom were very picky diners. He was also helpful, knowledgeable, and personable.
Food was excellent, particularly the sides, desserts and breads. Our vegetarian entree (only one on the menu)was good, but nothing special; the other entrees were better.
We loved the gratis surprises: the tiny portion of split pea soup after the appetizer, the apple cider sorbet after the salad, and the chocolate truffles and anise cookies at the end of the meal.
We all agreed it was a delightful experience.
This restaurant is a long time favorite. When a special occasion comes along, we cannot think of another place we'd rather go.
We’ve been here many times over our 40 year marriage and the decision to come here for our 40th anniversary was an easy one.
We love this place—it’s like visiting Nana’s— and Tomy is the best among the entire terrific service staff.
This is by far the best restaurant in the Baltimore/Washington area. The setting is reminds me of the French countryside and the restaurant is reminiscent of a French Country Inn. Whether eating inside or outside, the atmosphere is intoxicating. Nice to begin your meal with one of their classic drinks like a Kir Royale. Whether you are choosing dinner or lunch, you are presented with a menu that includes an appetizer, salad, main course and dessert. Each category has many choices and it is hard to make selections since everything looks wonderful. There are also some a la carte options, but there are so many wonderful choices included in the regular menu that it is not necessary to choose anything else. My husband and I have been dining at Chez Francois since they were downtown DC and we have enjoyed many wonderful dishes over the years. My favorite foods include their garlic bread and cottage cheese, their pates, the sweetbreads, the bouillibaise, the plum tart and the souffles. We have celebrated many birthdays and anniversaries there. We just celebrated my 74th birthday there, celebrated my mother-in-law's 100th birthday there and my cousin's 95th birthday there. It is a wonderful place for all occasions and we plan on returning for many years to come!!!!!!!!!!!
Belated Valentine’s celebration
