L'Auberge Chez Francois Ratings and Reviews
Just not impressive. Really bad service. If you have any experience with fine dining, you won’t like it. Sure, tons of waiters running around in red vests, but none are coming to your table. And I really appreciated the water person using the water on someone else’s table to fill my glass (each table had its own water pitcher). It just seemed odd. Food was ok. Appetizers were good, entrees were uninspiring. I almost feel like the chef couldn’t make the cut in France and moved to the US because he knew silly Americans wouldn’t know the difference. I expected more. And don’t go if you want to converse with your date. Sooooo loud. Wow. It felt like Olive Garden. And if you have a “sommelier”, he should be pouring the good wine. Lastly, get a valet. You have a huge hilly, rocky parking lot that fills for dinner service obviously, don’t have a guy in a raincoat tell me to park on the street, take care of your customers.
It was my second time at Chez Francois. I love it. The quality of the food is consistent. The menu is authentic French from Alsace Lorraine. It's intimate, rustique and with a great focus on high quality food. It's not a quick bite. You go here to sit and enjoy for the evening.
I'd heard of this restaurant for many years, but had never been. I was afraid the quality might have slipped since I first heard about it, but that was not the case. We loved the house aperitif. All of the food was delicious and beautifully presented. Even the simple house salad was unusually good, with a particularly tasty vinaigrette. The pictured Norwegian salmon in pastry tasted as good as it looked. The only disappointment was the coffee, which was weak (we had regular drip coffee; maybe they do a better job with espresso). I look forward to going again.
We came here to celebrate a birthday and it was fantastic. The ambiance is wonderful. It is charming and warm and quiet enough so you can speak with the other people in your party. The service was great. Mohammad was very attentive and kind. He gave us space, but also made sure that our glasses were never empty. The food was, of course, delicious. Everything we ate was amazing, from the appetizers to the entrees to dessert. Although it is pricey, I believe it is worth the cost, especially for a special occasion.
We have celebrating all our special occasions in life and even the occasional just need a wonderful evening out at
L' Auberge Chez Francois for over 20 years. We had the Chateaubriand which came with 6 vegetables. It had a black pepper crust and came with a light gravy and a bernaise sauce. It was expertly prepared and served. My husband said it was better than the filet mignon he has had at other restaurants.
The dark chocolate tarte is decadently delicious and just as good the day after.
As always, the service is impeccable from the time you are shown to your seat to the time you are given a warm smile good bye.
It has been a few years since driving out to Chez Francois. Once again, we found the trip worth the effort. The sole was perfect, the bread off the page and the bread pudding to die for. Will just have to make this more of a regular stop. Wish we lived closer!!
We had a delightful Sunday afternoon lunch here recently. It met or exceeded expectations in every respect. One hint regarding the house salad: Watch out for the garlic in the crouton. The waiter did give us a heads up, but it was startling nonetheless. Very good though!
My longtime friend and I enjoyed dinner this week. Upon arrival , we were greeted warmly and seated promptly in the main dining room- where the ambience was exactly as I had recalled from prior visits- warm, cozy and inviting- elegant without pretension.
Our server, Melissa, was attentive without being intrusive throughout our dining experience- following up on each request without making a fuss. All courses of the meal were wonderful, including the thoughtful accompanying amuse bouches.
It’s these little touches, retained over my several years of visits, that keep me returning. I’m already looking forward to another wonderful experience next time I am in the area. In the meantime, I’ll content myself with the restaurant’s weekly email updates!
For us, this is a destination restaurant that we have been going to once or twice a year for decades. In 2018 we went for lunch in the main dining room on my wife's 82nd birthday, a Tuesday in January, when the restaurant was almost empty and wonderfully quiet. The lunch menu is a subset of the dinner menu, with lower prices. Everything was cooked to perfection or nearly so: my lamb was to be medium but I'd call it medium-well. It was fine the way it was. We will be back for an anniversary (#59 coming up!) or birthday.
