L'Auberge Chez Francois Ratings and Reviews
Eating at L'Auberge Chez Francois is the next best thing to actually eating in France. The food and service were wonderful. The atmosphere was cozy and friendly. We loved the little extras; like a demitasse of fresh tomato soup between courses, and the delicious lemon sorbet to cleanse ones palette before the main course. We highly recommend this restaurant.
Each item presented at our table was wonderfully plated and filled with perfect flavor. The service was excellent and attentive without being intrusive. While we chose a table inside, we could see hummingbirds in the patio dining area dancing in the air. A wonderful way to spend our 30th wedding anniversary.
Been to L'Auberge several times over the past 15 years, and it never fails to impress. Service and food are both impeccable. The menu hasn't changed much, but they do mix in a few new dishes now and then, and why mess with perfection anyway? It was a bit loud, so conversation wasn't as easy as it could have been, but that's what happens when everyone in the room is having a good time. I look forward to my next visit.
This restaurant has been a favorite place to celebrate special moments in our lives and never disappoints. The food is delicious and the little extra touches always make us feel special. The staff is attentive and seem to genuinely want to make our experience a happy one.
The food and atmosphere were exquisite. The sauces were sumptuous. The steak was cooked perfect. The chocolate soufflé alone is sufficient reason to return. The waiter was excellent with a positive attitude, a great smile, good nature and a sense of humor. We will definitely go back and have already told our friends of the adventure, including sending photos. Thank you. It was our 40th anniversary and we've decided to remain married for one more year just to relive the experience.
We're enjoyed our dinner immensely; however, the portions are quite large. We were overfed by dessert. Next time we'll have dessert to-go. The soft shell crabs were delectable. Our waitstaff was very personable and attentive. We were pleasantly attended to by other staff, as well. Diners away for August missed fantastic evening weather for al fresco dining in an exceptional venue. Although there were other guests on the terrace, it seemed as if we dined by ourselves.
... before the move from Washington. No other can even come close to your beautiful surroundings and friendly service. We and our friends always choose the price fixe menu and love everything. Must mention the apple tart appetizer and all of the seafood selections! And desserts!
This was our first time to dine al fresco (on a very rare clear and mild August day) and we were delighted to be seated on the patio.
This was an anniversary for us, so we needed something special. We got it! The food is outstanding. We loved the quiet atmosphere that made it comfortable to carry on a conversation. (We have never gone back to a restaurant that was too noisy. Sometimes it is loud music. We don't want to raise our voices to talk at a table.)
Wonderful food served graciously in a beautiful, sunlit dining room. Everyone in our party of 7 enjoyed their meal -- from the assortment of fresh-baked breads to the lobster bisque to the grilled lamb to the chocolate & lime custard tarts! A few minutes on the beautiful patio afterwards capped a special afternoon.
I took my husband here as a surprise for his 35th Birthday. The food, ambiance and service was impeccable. Everything from the amuse bouche to the dessert was delicious and beautifully presented. SUPER expensive, but for a special occasion, it's worth the splurge.
This was our umpteenth time having dined at L'Auberge Chez Francois. We began coming her probably in 1080 or so and have celebrated our Anniversary here probably 20 times. You could find a restaurant that combines wonderful food, excellent service, friendly staff, value, and ambiance. Cest magnifique.
When my husband and I lived in DC more than 25 years ago, we went to Chez Auberge on CT. Ave. Last week, 26 years later, we celebrated our 38th anniversary there with our son and his finance. The experiece was just as enjoyable as when we'd last eaten there. Our waiter, who was from El Salvador, was extremely friendly and knowledgable. THe lamb and beef dishes were superb as were the starters of mussels and lobster bisque. THe trout was cooked in a bit too much butter but still tasty. A 4 course set price lunch was $40, including a glass of wine. We will return again.
The menu offers a number of very appealing starters, entrees and desserts--it's difficult to choose. The food is delicious and features many fresh herbs and vegetables from the garden. The wine list is excellent and very reasonable. The ambience is charming and inviting, and the waiter or waitress provides great advice and service unobtrusively. It's a tremendous experience for a special evening!
Food was very good, borderline excellent. Service was also very good. Ambiance was a bit more rustic than expected especially given the online warnings about dress code. The chairs could use cushions as a 5 course dinner takes a while and it started getting a tad hard on the bottom. I will go back but only on special occasions and I would probably try somewhere new first. There are only so many times you want to drop a car payment for dinner and while I was happy with the experience, I'm not dying to return. My only recommendation for improvement would be to have the bar be more generous with the cocktails as I felt the prices were overly high given the quantity/quality/appearance.
We have not been to this restaurant for at least 15 years. Went there with visiting parents in mid 1980s for the first time and have been back for special occasions as a couple. This time we celebrated a family birthday and were able to introduce one of our adult children to the restaurant, just as my parents introduced us to it in 1985.
The restaurant is expensive, but a genuinely enjoyable culinary experience every time, along with excellent service.
I really enjoyed the Fixed Price menu $70-90 per person includes appetizer, salad, entrée, dessert and coffee. I'm not a big fan of al a carte dining. We had a birthday party of 8 adults and the food, atmosphere, and evening was wonderful. After dining, we were sent an email with an offer for a free soufflé when we came back. That was a nice touch.
It's been at least 10 years since I last dined here, because it really is a special occasion restaurant and with the pre-fixe menu (no a la carte) you really have to plan to eat a lot! The price (next to the entree listing) includes a soup or appetizer, salad, main course w/vegatables, dessert, amouse bouche (a tiny cup of tomato basil soup) and fresh sorbet as a "palate cleanser" between courses. Higher priced appetizers or souffles are available for a small surcharge. I wasn't paying, so I didn't see the wine list, but my date (a wine collector) was impressed. Service was impeccable. We both had duck breast, since this is an item you don't find in too many restaurants.
L'Auberge never fails to deliver good food and wonderful service in a lovely "country" setting. Summer time dining offers hand picked fruits and vegetables from the restaurant's garden. Tomatoes dressed in a simple salad were the best of the season. Dining here is the perfect way to celebrate a special occasion.
This was a ladies get together and included one young lady (11), and the service was the best. They were always there to refresh your water, ice tea, whatever, but you never really noticed them. Timing of all the courses was perfect and the food was fantastic. They have a tomato salad that is just wonderful and they grow their own tomatoes right there on the property. You can even to and see them. The place is just charming and we could not have had a better ladies luncheon.
A guest and I were there for Sunday lunch -- her first time and several times for me. The lunch menu featured a choice of soup or salad, an entree, and dessert. We both agreed each course was oh-my-goodness delicious; the service was impeccable; and the restaurant is like a beautiful French chalet. We will definitely return!

This was our second visit as a couple, my fourth alone and it has been wonderful every time. The is always great, the service perfect, and atmosphere memorable. We have always used this location to celebrate special events and will continue to do so. Thank you for another perfect evening.
This restaurant continues to carry on the fine tradition of relaxed fine dining. The service is exceptional and the locally grown produce (some in theor own garden) is presented in ways that I only wish I could recreate at home. While there, I had a chance to note that they have opened a more casual dining option (same menu a la carte) downstais called the Brassiere. I made a mental note to come back before too long for that experience as well.
This continues to be one of the most special and welcoming restaurants that my husband and I go to. We come back every year to celebrate our anniversary - and are always delighted.
