L'Auberge Chez Francois Ratings and Reviews
Over the many years we have been dining at Chez Francois we have never had any negative experience. The same high standard that has been their hallmark coupled with beautiful, peaceful location makes any visit a memorable experience.
We will return again and again especially when we can introduce a new guest to this lovely restaurant.
We have been dining @ L'Auberge Chez Francois for 30 years. Our passion is dinner on the patio in a gazebo. We had a wonderful wait staff & sommelier. The raspberry aperitif was a lovely beginning, along with the garlic toast & addictive cottage cheese & chive spread. The house salad is excellent & hubby loved his tuna martini. The orange sorbet was a nice palette cleanser. We both ordered seafood entrees & a half bottle of Viognier. Loved the lobster, crab, citrus & beurre blanc one I had. The chef sent over a terrific corn soufflé side dish. We always order dessert souffles in advance. My Grand Marnier w/ sabayon sauce was perfect! Barry's chocolate souffle will be even better next time when they give him a dark chocolate sauce! The Cappuccinos are perfection, especially when the chef sends over cookies & chocolate truffles. Spoil yourself! Make a reservation here soon.
Never disappoints! Yes, it is quite a drive to this restaurant, but it is always well worth the trip. The menu standards, such as the bouillabaisse, Dover sole and plum tart, are consistently superb and new menu items are just as fantastic - perfectly seasoned and perfectly cooked. Service is impeccable yet relaxed, a combination rarely achieved in restaurants offering this caliber of dining. The wine list is not a tomb (thank goodness) and instead provides a superb selection of wines by region that range from affordable to special occasion. We're truly fortunate to have this restaurant in our area!
A classic, did not disappoint. It had been many years since our last visit, and our first in the Jacques era. It's a full-meal menu, with the price based on your entree, with a choice of starter, salad, and dessert, with a few items at an additional charge. These can very well be worth it, such as dessert souffles. There are many great choices including fish and vegetarian. We had a mushroom crepe and roquefort tart, then halibut and lobster, ending with Grand Marnier souffle and cheese plate. The opening amuse-bouche was a warm tomato soup from the garden, and the palate cleanser was an orange-herb sorbet. We went on a Sunday - the dining room was peaceful and the service impeccable. If we only lived closer...
I have been to this restaurant several times over the year. I did not like it initially when I visited it about 10 years ago. Then a couple of years ago, I was there on several occasions and really enjoyed the meals. My recent visit was a disappointment. It seems like the quality of this restaurant goes in cycles, and currently it is in a down cycle. The salads were flat, probably from sitting around too long, and steaks were not cooked to proper temperature. Everything else spoke of average quality. I son said he had better meals at Outback Steak House. And I agree with that assessment.
This is the best restaurant in the DC area. The food, service, and ambiance are all top class. We've never been disappointed in over 40 years of dining here. It is not cheap, but you get great value for the money. There are always nice little surprises that are not on the menu...this time it was a small cup of tomato bisque soup (with fresh tomatoes from their own garden), cookies, and truffles. Marvelous dining experience.
This restaurant is a staple for special family occasions and occasional fine dining. My wife and I have been going there annually for about 20 years and thoroughly enjoy experience each and every time. The food and service are excellent, and the prices are fair.
Our waiter Tommy (along with the rest of the staff) was great, he attended to our every need and was easily the most polite server that we had ever had. The scene was nice for a relaxing evening outside with light music and the food was absolutely delicious!
Our party of 6 had a remarkable dining experience and overall wonderful evening at L'Auberge. It was a 75th birthday and I can't think of a more outstanding way to celebrate the occasion. The service was impeccable, the food was interesting and so flavorful. The wild mushroom crepe and the soft shell crabs were outstanding, but then, so was pretty much everything else. I loved the ambience, including the gardens and floral arrangements. The only suggestion I would make is that the menu is very limited for vegetarian and vegan options. Three of our party were vegetarians and they really only had one choice on the menu.
