Chateaubriand de L'Auberge*
Roasted beef tenderloin, seasonal vegetables, Béarnaise, truffle sauce
with rockfish, salmon, smoked salmon and trout
It has been almost two plus years since my last visit for dinner and I have to say that it has even gotten better if that's possible. The setting in the Virginia countryside is serene and the facilities look like new. We were seated immediately, after a warm greeting, in one of the smaller rooms which was lovely. The tables were spaced so had lot of room and couldn't hear the other couples. Samy was our waiter and he was outstanding ( I would highly recommend that you ask for him). We both had their version of a Kir Royal which was delicious. We were brought a sample of split pea soup which as delicious. I tried the stuffed crepe appetizer (wonderful) and my wife greatly enjoyed the onion soup. I had the Dover Sole, which I had always wanted to try with a lobster claw with assorted veggies. My wife loved the beef tenderloins. Samy was most informative, helpful and charming overall. The extremely cordial wine steward was most helpful and we choose/enjoyed the Chateau Taillefer Pomerol at a reasonable price. I forgot to mention that a range of bread was brought to the table and were all very good but I must add a mention not to eat as much bread as you might want so as not to ruin your appetite for the main courses. Both the manager as well as the owner stopped by our table to see how we were enjoying our dinner. My initial Dover Sole left a good impression for it was sweet/solid and extremely tasty. Definitely not fishy tasting but firm with a solid taste. Excellently cooked , deboned and presented. My wife had the soufflé and I had a homemade ice cream. Must say that we departed full satisfied and extremely content. We want to return to try their new patio dining.
In reading some of the online reviews I saw were people complained of the cost and also of having to wait for service. I must comment that although the prices are above average the food and service are worth every dollar. Here expect to have a leisurely dining experience so dont rush simply enjoy.
The food was below my expectations
The service is exceptional and the Manager even checked us to make sure we enjoyed everything. The quality of food was also great! Their kids meal was phenomenal! My daughter doesn’t usually like to eat in restaurants because of the menu but they did a great job on putting up the kids menu for Father’s Day! We will definitely come back.
We enjoyed a lovely anniversary/Father's Day lunch at this classic restaurant. The years have been kind to it. The house aperitif is still divine, the service correct and friendly, the food wonderful. Our table in the garden, under a big canopy, was luxuriously far from other tables. We received expert help with wines, and after dessert, were given a little plate of chocolate truffles. It was a delightful visit.
The mushroom crêpe, the trout and the raspberry soufflé were served warm and well-prepared.
We had a wonderful celebratory lunch under the tent at the outdoor part of the restaurant. Ambience was lovely. Service was attentive. Food was wonderful - all dishes I'd likely not make at home. Desserts were extravagant. We were never rushed. It was a marvelous experience.
The food was magnificent and service excellent. Noise level at about 8:00 excessive.
As always, L'Auberge Chez Francois did not disappoint. 1st time eating on their beautiful patio and that just added to the experience!
Wonderful service in an idyllic setting. Delicious meal and overall great experience.
The food and wine/cocktails were as delicious as ever. Service was excellent. We sat outside under cover and the grounds were exquisite.
Another amazing meal. 5 Star quality across the board. Delicious soufflé and artful meals.
We were there for a graduation celebration dinner, delicious meals all around and efficient and entertaining wait staff all made for the perfect evening …as good as it gets!
Wonderful spot for a birthday luncheon. Fabulous, professional friendly service and amazing food. The staff was aware of the occasion and gave subtle recognition and compliments. L’auberge Chez Francois never disappoints.
We were celebrating our retirement and the restaurant lived up to our expectations! Service was great, food outstanding. Very enjoyable evening.
The food, the service and the ambience are always outstanding. This has become our go-to special events restaurant--and we keep inventing special events to go to. Went for a graduation event last night and they made it memorable for the graduate--and for the rest of us.
Excellent, friendly, informative wait staff. Easily accommodated our sitting outside tent area. Presented with an extra dessert to celebrate birthdays.
Great dinner overall. Two recommendations:
1) The wild halibut entree- it was delicious, however, the concentration of Parmesan was too much giving it a way too salty taste.
2) Le Kugelhopf en neige- the soft marshmallow could have a bit sweeter texture.
What a beautiful way to spend a Sunday evening and to celebrate a wonderful couple! Everything was perfect!
Great. Our first venture to a restaurant in over a year. Chez Francois continues it long record of excellence for food, service and ambiance. Our 57th wedding anniversary and they made it special.
Such a wonderful dining experience! I have dined here many times over the years, but this was the first time to take my teenagers, who all enjoyed it. Our server was fantastic (as always) and made the kids feel welcome.
It seems the quality and selection of food has diminished over the past two years. The atmosphere remains excellent - beautiful inside and out. But, with higher prices and poor food options/quality, I will not rush back to pay $500 for a dinner for four persons.
Unhurried and elegant, prices have gone up but still worth it
This is my favorite French restaurant in the United States! The service is impeccable and the food is delicious!!! The souffles are worth the drive alone!
Great as always . The lunch menu ha less entrees now, but may increase again soon.
Great place to spend few relaxing and enjoying delicious food
Everything was perfect except for the weather !! The resturant itself as well as the staff is warm and inviting — perfect for a chilly misty night !! The staff is vey knowledgeable and attentive . The food was of excellent quality and fresh — perfectly seasoned and prepared . I was pleased to an excellent California and French wines at quite reasonable prices
We have enjoyed dining here for over 35 years on many occasions.
Everything within the restaurant’s control was perfect. The only downside was the party near us decided to bring two toddlers to a fine dining restaurant.
Best meal I have had at a restaurant in many years
We ordered from the prie fixe lunch menu which had ample choices. The entree of the day was halibut and it was especially nice. I’m not sure the raspberry soufflé was worth the additional cost but it was delicious. Great way to celebrate our 56th anniversary.
What can I say? This restaurant deserves a 100 out of ten. Everything from food to service - sigh - I thought this was something that was no longer an option. Perfect, simply perfect. Thank you so much for an outstanding time, and can't wait to visit again.
You will never go wrong choosing L’Auberge. If you want to be delighted by excellence, this is your destination.
It was a disappointment. I had wonderful memories but this particular event was nowhere close to what I remembered. The food was way overpriced, the desert mediocre and the waiter attitude was bordering being rude.
I took my daughter out to celebrate her grades for the end of the school year. We were able to make a last-minute reservation for their outdoor dining, which was very nice. It was a great experience with outstanding food and service. I would certainly recommend L'Auberge to anyone looking for a fine dining option.
Chez Francois is consistently first rate. Our celebratory dinner was special and as always at Chez Francois, very enjoyable.
Waiter seemed new and tentative and his timing was off but gave him a pass, assuming he was new. The restaurant just seems a bit tired and could use some new menu items but realize someone’s favorite might go. It’s a 42 year tradition so we will continue to go there.
It was a special occasion of two long time friends getting together and everything was perfect.
Took a friend for her birthday and from being greeted as we opened the door to the time we left, we experienced delicious food and great service. If you want speed dining this is not the place for you. It’s intentionally slow-paced so you can relax and enjoy every course. One of my pet peeves when dining out is for the entree to arrive before you’ve had the chance to finish the appetizer or salad, so was very happy with the time between courses. I ordered the French onion soup, and was disappointed but the standard salad was very tasty and the rainbow trout was delicious. I also enjoyed the plum tart with cinnamon ice cream. We agreed that we need to dine at L’Auberge Chez Francois more often!
It is rather expensive, especially for lunch. But the food is absolutely delightful. However I think the corkage fee of $40 per bottle is too much.
