It was the first time there for my husband and we will be back. Gracious describes everything about the afternoon. Tables were set far apart. The meals were wonderful. Definitely a top rated experience.
As usual the food and service were impeccable. We are thrilled that L'Auberge chez Francois is open for business.
Loved our meal so much had the Beef cheeks and Lobster outstanding!
Second time diner and it’s been spectacular both times. Highly recommend.
We have been dining here for many years and it's always excellent. We look forward to returning soon.
Wonderful, meal, great service. Fantastic evening!
We came on a Wed for an outside dinner for 4 to celebrate our friends’ recent wedding. We were the only table seated in the tent in the back patio, so despite the wonderful ambience of this restaurant, we didn’t get to truly enjoy it while inside this giant empty tent. However, given the circumstances surrounding this pandemic, it’s understandable. What disappointed us most is the food. We found the meal underwhelming and much overpriced for the quality of food. We expected it to be better than Le Diplomat in DC and certainly better than any of the local French restaurants. For the price, we wanted to see exceptional food that wow us with quality of ingredients, creativity, and technique and execution. (We knew it’s meant to be classic French food, so we did not expect too much innovation, but there should always be some creativity.) Unfortunately, the meal felt lackluster and did not deliver on our expectations. Service was just adequate.
While the our bouillabaisse was good, it was nothing extraordinary beyond what we experienced elsewhere for less. The house salad was basic and definitely overdressed. Our lobster entree looked beautiful, but lobster itself was a tad rubbery. The extra $ we spent on the two pistachio soufflés were a waste, as we thought them eggy. (The cheesecake and chocolate tart desserts were good though.) We did not directly ask how our 2 friends liked their dishes, but given the lack of praises, we don’t think they were wowed either. All in all, we walked away $600 poorer, but didn’t feel like that money was well-spent. Nothing was bad, but neither remarkable or memorable. My husband only noted that he liked the bottle of red wine we had.
We've been here a number of times for special occasions. This was our 58 Wedding Anniversary. It was unusually quiet because of COVID19 restrictions. As always, the more formal service and the outstanding food were extraordinary. Of course, the ambience is also unequaled. We'll be back!
My favorite restaurant. Great food; great service; great ambiance!
Love this place. The trip out to the country. Seeing the glow of the lights on a dark road. The full parking lot. All these things foretell a special meal to come. A welcome greeting. A well orchestrated meal. One of my favorite places to dine.
Outstanding as always!
Wonderful! It was a sweet 16 birthday she will never forget!
WONDERFUL FOOD, SUPERIOR SERVICE, BUT A LITTLE PRICEY. THE RESTAURANT WAS NEARLY EMPTY DUE TO COVID-19 RESTRICTIONS WHICH WAS UNFORTUNATE.
Great location and service. The food was really delicious and made my Father's birthday special for him. We are definitely going to come back. Also, COVID-19 safety measures were perfect. Everyone wore masks and the waiters wore gloves. Could not ask for more.
Wonderful evening. Can't go wrong here.
My family has been coming here since I was 16 (now almost 60!!), usually for special occasions and sometimes just because. The food is always outstanding. We come hungry and devour the garlic toasts with the cottage cheese spread. My husband and I split the chateaubriand and the meat just melted in our mouths. We can count on the consistently delicious food and impeccable service. If you want an extra treat, splurge for the soufflé to finish.
This restaurant continues to be a star in the Washington area. We had not been there for a few years but it lived up to expectations. It remains a favorite.
We three ladies enjoyed our lunch . We had a very pleasant experience.
Appetizers and entres were delicious. I would not recommande the soufflé. Very pretty but too runny. Overall quite enjoyable.
We go a couple of times a year and have never been disappointed.
My wife and I both had Dover Sole and it was excellent. Always a favorite restaurant as it never disappoints.
Always a great escape! I felt like I had been transported to France in my own backyard😊.
The food was excellent- Tuna Tartar to die for! The service is consistently outstanding. Lovely ambiance. If you want to feel special and pampered while experiencing a wonderful meal, L'Auberge Chez Francois should be at the top of your list!
We had an incredible date night; first one in 8 months because of the pandemic. They have done an outstanding job with social distancing and other precautions. The food was delicious (as always). The service is first class. Thank you for making our date so special!
If you know about this place, well, you already know.
Wonderful evening celebrating a special anniversary.
This restaurant is Always wonderful but they are doing an exceptional job in light of COVID-19 . We can’t say enough about how safe We felt while dining there.
For high-end French cuisine, L'Auberge is fine. It's not great, especially compared to the many exquisite French restaurants available in nearby DC proper, but Great Falls doesn't have a ton of food options so for folks looking for a fancy night out in their neighborhood, this place is just fine.
Ambience is nice, the building is so quaint and lovely, staff is very friendly but weren't as attentive as we might expect in a high-end restaurant (pulling chairs out, placing napkins, cleaning up crumbs after each course, a server handed me a very hot plate instead of placing it safely on the table).
The food - including prix fixe options and the amuse bouche - was good but not great. Flavors were more muted than I expected, but that might just be a personal taste thing. I had the wagyu beef cheek which was tender and delicate, the house salad, and parmesan Alaskan halibut which was flavorful but the fish was slightly overcooked, and the dark chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream which was VERY tasty. The dessert might have been the best part. My husband was not impressed with any of the courses he ordered, except for the souffle dessert which he very much enjoyed.
Overall, the next time we're looking for a special-event dinner and are in the mood for French fare, we might find ourselves looking at options in DC proper where we'll likely pay a bit more but will likely get better service and better food honestly. That being said, if I have family in town visiting and want a nice night out at a reasonable price per person, I'm more likely to give L'Auberge another chance.
Always have loved this beautiful restaurant. Unfortunately, overall we were very disappointed this time. I dont going to a fancy restaurant to have waiters reach over my guests and I when there is plenty of room to properly do it and in addition, unheard of never offered after dinner drinks or coffees. Didn't even offer to refill teas during the meal. I paid $700 for 4 people for an experience that we've grown accustomed to when dining here... getting dressed up and be ready to be swept away with amazing service and incredible food. Was it because we were 2 women and 2 teenage girls??
I really hate this think that's the case; however, not once did they refill my drink or any of ours! Water was clumsily refilled. We were celebrating birthdays that were on hold due to covid. Sweet 16 and 18 yr old bdays. My daughters were very much looking forward to it for many months and it was a let down. We drove and 1.5 hrs to dine here just to eat very herb heavy soup, chewy rubbery lobster and I mean rubbery! I said nothing when I couldn't eat mine, I didn't want to complain- then my guest mentioned she couldn't eat it and I fessed up that I couldn't either. We had leftovers that they just swept away, didn't ask if we wanted to take anything home. I was fine to let mine go, however my daughter would've like to take her steak home and the tasty pomme frittes! They did ask my friend if she wanted hers and she said she couldn't eat it, was very chewy and rubbery. No apology just Oh! And walked away with it. That was it. All I could do all evening was be extra polite and hope we'd get that in return. No such luck. Beyond disappointed. Will I return, perhaps, im not sure. I'd rather keep good memories of this place then this bad experience. So if i return, it will be a long time from now. Because ive loved this place for years... I will recommend, this has to be out of the norm, has to be....
As always, this in an amazing restaurant. Food is superb and the service absolutely the best. Too bad the covid era has affected the attendance at all restaurants. This is classic French food at its best! Compares to even the best restaurants in Paris.
It’s always a perfect evening at L'Auberge! I was so excited that the special was Dover sole, my all time favorite dish there. The tables were appropriately spaced so we felt very comfortable.
Awesome! It was our anniversary and they took care of us in a great way. The food was phenomenal
Ordered bottle of BV Cabernet and after drinking 4 glasses I discovered soot on in my glass. Reported to the sommelier, he filtered the remaining in the bottle and returned it tome to take home. Last night when trying to finish the bottle I discovered there was more soot in my glass. I should have retuned the bottle.
My favorite place!
We had a wonderful family brunch in the private gazebo. The weather, food and service were all incredible. If you can spare a few hours on a Sunday for a leisurely brunch, this is an excellent option. Also, if you have any food issues, allergies/preferences, they are more than accommodating.
Good food, great service, properly distanced patio seating. Wonderful setting.
This was out first time and is was lovely! Our server David was wonderful...
Enjoyed every minute and the menu was excellent.
Just went here for our 22nd anniversary and left with somewhat mixed feelings. There was nothing necessary wrong with the food or service, it just wasn't anything special, particularly if you consider that a meal for 2 will set you back $350+ once you count for drinks and tips. The food is very classic French and is prepared well, there is just a lack of imagination to make it special or different. When we arrived, the waiter asked if we were celebrating anything special, answer was yes, our anniversary. But then he asked 2 more times over the next hour and a half. Never asked if we wanted regular water, bottled or sparkling (apparently we look like tab water people). Also, never asked whether we wanted additional wine or coffee, which would have been nice prior to the next course arriving.
They keep mentioning their self proclaimed status of 'Top 10 restaurant in the DC region'. Maybe this, together with the local Great Falls clientele, is enough to keep this place going with the current effort, but I think there are many other restaurants in the region for a special meal that I would pick before this one.
Every year we celebrate our anniversary at Chez Francois and every year we think it couldn't possibly be as good as the previous year...and every year it is!
We are outside. I’d give it all 5s if we were inside.
We dined outdoors near the edge of the tent, overlooking the garden. A beautiful, warm, fall Saturday afternoon in November! Quite safe and spaced tables. Delicious lunch. I had the salmon with bearnaise, my friend had the beef tournedos. Can’t miss chocolate tart dessert. My friend reported that the cheesecake was excellent. Such a treat in this covid era to have such a wonderful meal in a delightful location!
