We'd waited nearly 1 1/2 years to use a gift certificate we'd received for Chez Francois. Brought friends with us. The dining experience, food, ambiance were truly memorable. Adding to that, our server, Eric, made it a really fun time. His attention, excellent service, and delightful sense of humor were an added bonus.

I love introducing my friends to restaurants I've been to before, and my family and I used to go to L'Auberge for our birthday dinners. The food has been consistently wonderful for at least 20 years, the service excellent, and the environment quaint and conducive to speaking with your table mates without having to raise your voice. Happy to say L'Auberge has emerged from its pandemic woes wonderfully.

Of the many fantastic dinning options in the Washington region, L'Auberge long has been among the very best. And so it was such a joy after 15 months of pandemic uncertainties, to return here on a perfect Sunday in early May for an ideal, outdoor lunch with friends. The atmosphere was as romantic as ever; every single staff member was perhaps even just a bit more friendly than always; the choices of menu items -- including cocktails, wine and beer -- were just as extensive and well chosen; and the execution of it all was truly flawless...as always. My tasty halibut was fresh and flakey, my wife's bouillabaisse was rich and varied, and our guests were extremely pleased with their entrees of crab cake and trout. We had a long, relaxed, delicious and well-attended meal in the garden. Of course, we will return very soon.

Everything was great except they forgot the reason we had dinner there. It was my wife's birthday and they never acknowledged it. What made it worse was I had actually called the day before to remind them AND the couple at the table across from us got a candle on their dessert.

We have been coming to Chez Francois for many years on special occasions. It has never failed us. Francois’s son Jacques who took over the restaurant after his fathers death has a deft touch. He manages to maintain the best of the traditions of his father—the wonderful menu, the exceptional service, and the lovely ambiance. But he also recognizes that changing time requires some alterations such as a luncheon service, several charming outdoor venues , and a more casual bistro. Chez Francois is a Northern Virginia treasure.

L'Auberge is excellent as it always has been -- still a special place for special occasions. The service was terrific and cheerfully accommodated small changes. We came for our favorites - chateaubriand for two and chocolate souffle, both of which were superb. Interestingly, due to the pandemic they prepared and plated the chateaubriand in the kitchen instead of at the table, which of course made no difference, only required us to make some mental adjustment. It was a leisurely, wonderful evening.

Our meal in the garden room for lunch on a Sunday was a celebration of our 50th wedding anniversary. We have not been to L'Auberge Chez Francois for many years, but decided that it would be a perfect place to celebrate in a safe way during the covid restrictions on dining. We were not disappointed! From the bread and house special cottage cheese spread at the start of the meal to the last scrumptious bite of dessert, we were treated to delicious cooking. Our starters were snails with garlic-herb butter and chive crepe stuffed with duxelles of wild mushrooms, tomato concasse and Madeira sauce. We had the house salad and for the entree my husband chose the medallion of beef tenderloin and I had Papa's bouillabaisse. The dessert memu choice was difficult to make. We finally settled on the tarte au chocolat and the kougelhopf en neige -- soft caramelized meringue with kirsch and vanilla sauce. The house complimented us with yet another dessert -- chocolate ice cream surrounded by meringue with cream and chocolate sauce. We walked in the garden or rather waddled there after this truly wonderful meal.

Excellent as always! Fixed price menu was scrumptious: lagniappe of asparagus soup, Roquefort tarte, Lobster-and- crabmeat with haricot vert and citrus in a thin Newberg sauce, simple salad, and plum tarte. The only minor detraction was the ambiance being affected by required table spacing, which was appreciated for health safety. Will certainly be back.

L‘Auberge Chez Francois was the perfect spot for family members coming from different areas of the country to gather (the first in a year and a half) and truly enjoy each other‘s company, all the while sharing in the most delectable treats. Only praise for the chefs, kitchen staff, and wait staff! My sister—in—law and husband who are true francophiles, said it was the closest thing to being in France (they visit every year). Myself, I had one of your specials, the haddock, and raved about it all the way home. And I must tell you, my eleven year old grand daughter was the perfect young lady, loving her first five-course dining experience, eating most of everything she ordered, sampling new items from others‘ plates, and of course, eyeing and trying the beautiful assortment of desserts. You helped create quite a memory for all of us. We’re looking forward to our next meeting!

This is a first class restaurant with excellent service and unique, upscale food that is very attractively presented. The dinnerware was beautiful and unusual, and the service was outstanding. Be prepared to spend $100 per person plus drinks, but it is great for special occasions. The only suggestion I would have for diners is do not get the house salad unless you like it to be only various greens with one crouton. We found it bitter and could not eat it. We suggest you order a different salad, but there is an upcharge for doing that.
