We went there to celebrate my wife’s birthday, and we enjoyed experience.
L'Auberge never disappoints. We were able to eat outside and the tent was clean and the air moved through. The landscape is just beautiful to look at and the charm is present both inside and outside the restaurant. The menu is a bit smaller than pre pandemic, but there are still plenty of options for anyone. Will continue to consider this our favorite restaurant!

The food was most excellent.
Service wasn’t great and didn’t match the prices. The waiter didn’t stop by to check on us. I Had to track down the waiter to request a glass of wine, the dessert menu and the check.
The service and food was fabulous. All three courses were beautifully plated. The wine recommendation was paired beautifully with every course. The lobster was cooked perfectly. Looking out the windows seeing the lovey gardens was a bonus.
Food and service were exquisite as always. Dining outside was quite nice, and felt quite safe.
Our Mother’s Day Meal was delicious and while costly represented fair value. The service was impeccable and quite timely. I am glad we were to enjoy a fantastic meal at this venue. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a very special occasion.
Six of us enjoyed a lovely meal Saturday evening. Four got the lobster - all meat, no picking from shell - and loved it. The others beef, and rated it as excellent. The highlight, though, were the soufflés. I ordered the raspberry and was found it exquisite. Others raved about the Grand Marnier soufflé. The service - Sammy as head waiter and Alex as sommelier - was excellent. The back waiters, too, were excellent: polite, pleasant, and unobtrusive. The evening flew by. I highly recommend this restaurant. Top-notch.
wonderful experience! the soufflé was definitely a must. The halibut was also perfection. But the wine selection cant be beat. Will be back soon!
This was our first visit—a special occasion, my wife’s birthday. We were greeted, promptly seated, and efficiently attended to by a gracious and very accommodative staff. The cozy country-inn ambience was delightful. The two of us ordered from the fixed-price menu, which was served with nice little extras—small tasting of a delicious, creamy lentil soup, a nice mango sorbet as an intermezzo between courses, and a complimentary surprise (baked Alaska-type) birthday cake portion to top things off. The meal, itself, was a little uneven. On the positive side, our pre-meal Mahattans were perfect—the best we have ever had. The bread accompaniments were also excellent—freshly baked rolls and perfectly toasted garlic bread. The house salad was also excellent with a perfect balance of vinaigrette. We had 2 disappointing courses: my wife’s onion soup, and my rack of lamb entree. The soup lacked a hearty flavor—light on the onion aspect and the broth lacking a seasoned flavor. My lamb chop entree did not meet the standards I expected. They were over-cooked and did not appear to be freshly baked/broiled. Also, the sauce/reduction did not complement the chops (at least to my palate). While the accompanying green beans were well-prepared, the Brussels sprouts and mini potatoes seemed to be re-heats, lacking any al-dente texture. For this entre, I would have expected an unsliced 3-boned (“frenched”) rack.
Overall, I rated our experience a 4 put of 5. If we do visit again, I would probably go with the fish/seafood side. My wife enjoyed her Parmesan-encrusted halibut very much.
Alsatian french cuisine at its best - I had the veal and my wife had dover sole - both were superb along with all the other courses - this is a delightful place!
Everything was great. Service was outstanding and food was delicious. I had the trout and my wife had the combination of steak, veal, lamb and lobster. Plum tart was awesome.
Went to celebrate my husbands birthday and he was extremely happy with the food and service. It was our first time there and the waiter helped us with recommendations that we adored. Might be our new favorite restaurant in the area.
Our 50th wedding anniversary and everything was perfect—food, service and their gracious hospitality! It’s why we’ve been going to Chez Francois for almost all of those 50 years.

Impeccable Service and food quality as usual. The amuse bouche was a fantastic mushroom lentil potage that frankly with their homemade bread would be a great meal all by itself, (are you allowed to ask for seconds?). it is rather hard to choose the appetizers, too many wonderful choices. There were so many gluten-free choices (about 90% of the menu f GF friendly). Entrewise the Lobster with the light (subtle) citrus wine sauce was amazing. the chateaubriand always fantastic, always perfectly cooked, one guest said it was the best Brussel spout they had ever tasted. the one restaurant when the bearnaise is better than my own (frown, hate to admit it but honestly requires it : ) YThe veal with crabmeat is incredible as well. the wine selection is fantastic and there are excellent lower-priced options as well as higher-end options for the wine enthusiast. the chocolate tarts are very right to the taste, but lite to the digestion. the souffle is a must. best souffles in the regions. I recommend the hazelnut or chocolate. the service makes you feel like they are there to make certain your experience is just perfect, they are extremely good in every aspect and are there to help you enjoy the meal, slow down from a hectic day and relax. Their recommendations are always spot on, not stuffy but represent true hospitality. The way they break up the large restaurant in many small rooms makes it very intimate, romantic, and frankly child friendly and their staff seems to love serving little ones. I did miss the cheese plate which they did not have the night we were there. Chef Jacques always puts a perfect cheese plate together.

We'd waited nearly 1 1/2 years to use a gift certificate we'd received for Chez Francois. Brought friends with us. The dining experience, food, ambiance were truly memorable. Adding to that, our server, Eric, made it a really fun time. His attention, excellent service, and delightful sense of humor were an added bonus.
It was as I remember from previous visits. Fond memories an an excellent way to celebrate an Anniversary.
I love introducing my friends to restaurants I've been to before, and my family and I used to go to L'Auberge for our birthday dinners. The food has been consistently wonderful for at least 20 years, the service excellent, and the environment quaint and conducive to speaking with your table mates without having to raise your voice. Happy to say L'Auberge has emerged from its pandemic woes wonderfully.

Be prepared to wait. Our appetizers arrived about an hour after we were seated, our entrees about two. However, there are extras between course which help. The bread, obviously. A couple of I guess amuse bouches, one a drinkable tiny cup of soup, the other a sorbet. Both outstanding.
And be ready for the drive, particularly Springvale Rd, where they’re located. I’ll tell you up front that the road is not very curvy......horizontally. Vertically it’s as close to a roller coaster as you will ever experience on pavement. I told my wife someone should put up a sign saying the Springvale Road Association had put in for a zoning variance for a vertical loop.
Fabulous food and lovely ambiance. We celebrated our anniversary in style. The lobster was to die for and the raspberry soufflé is a must!

Love, love love. Have been coming here for 23 years. Be prepared for a big check especially if you do as we do and order the raspberry aperitif, chocolate soufflé and add a 20% tip. We come to Chez Francisco for special occasions so it’s worth the splurge.
There is no other restaurant that combines such excellent service with such incredible food and beautiful, cozy surroundings. Every meal here is a special occasion!
We enjoyed lunch outside on the patio - outdoors, but still elegant. (Fans kept air circulating and tables socially distanced). Staff very attentive. The food? Rich and delicious with pretty plating and delivered at appropriate intervals. The most relaxing meal we've ever had. Also, great value for the price.
We often dine at Chez Francois for special occasions. The most recent was for an 85th birthday celebration. It was outstanding. The food, the service and the ambience are superb.

We’ve dined at Chez Francois since it was in DC. Consistent excellence all these years—food and service. Celebrating our 50th anniversary there this week. Wouldn’t consider any where else!
Of the many fantastic dinning options in the Washington region, L'Auberge long has been among the very best. And so it was such a joy after 15 months of pandemic uncertainties, to return here on a perfect Sunday in early May for an ideal, outdoor lunch with friends. The atmosphere was as romantic as ever; every single staff member was perhaps even just a bit more friendly than always; the choices of menu items -- including cocktails, wine and beer -- were just as extensive and well chosen; and the execution of it all was truly flawless...as always. My tasty halibut was fresh and flakey, my wife's bouillabaisse was rich and varied, and our guests were extremely pleased with their entrees of crab cake and trout. We had a long, relaxed, delicious and well-attended meal in the garden. Of course, we will return very soon.
It is always such a treat to celebrate a special occasion at L’Auberge Chez Francois. The food, service and atmosphere made our anniversary memorable and we will continue to return for an outstanding dinner experience every year.
Chez Francois was excellent as always! Our meals were great, I had the filet and we always enjoy the grand mariner soufflé. Cannot recommend enough!
Everything was great except they forgot the reason we had dinner there. It was my wife's birthday and they never acknowledged it. What made it worse was I had actually called the day before to remind them AND the couple at the table across from us got a candle on their dessert.

We have been coming to Chez Francois for many years on special occasions. It has never failed us. Francois’s son Jacques who took over the restaurant after his fathers death has a deft touch. He manages to maintain the best of the traditions of his father—the wonderful menu, the exceptional service, and the lovely ambiance. But he also recognizes that changing time requires some alterations such as a luncheon service, several charming outdoor venues , and a more casual bistro. Chez Francois is a Northern Virginia treasure.
