I must admit I had only been to L'Auberge twice before, when visiting DC. The most recent time was at least 25 years ago. My impression then was that it was an "event"--a country inn, waiters in red vests, and an over-the-top large menu with many seafood and meat items mixed together. Since moving to DC, I has not returned, believing that time had passed it by and that I had already experienced the restaurant.

I was wrong. What I failed to realize was the sheer excellence of the restaurant. Two nights ago, I had grilled duck breast, a duxelle of mushroom crepe, and bread pudding with Tahitian vanilla sauce. This was classic French food, beautifully prepared and expertly served. Yes, there were plenty of extra touches--amuse bouches, beautiful seating, classy plates, and, yes, the red-vested staff. But it was all charming and comfortable. Nothing pretentious. Small things: with snow coming, the drink menu offered mulled wine and we accepted--superb. The wine list was large with reasonably priced options, including a well-constructed list of half bottles; we went with a fine half bottle of an Oregon St. Innocent pinot noir.

In short, L'Auberge exceed all expectations. We will be back--soon and often.

This is our favorite restaurant in the D.C. area. It is lovely to drive up to; wonderful inside--and outside during the summer. It's expensive but worth every penny. The service is always excellent; the wine list terrific and My God Chef Jacques and friends can cook! We love going there-do it to celebrate birthdays, Valentine's Day--any excuse to make the drive to Great Falls. No, I am not an owner or related to Chef Jacques; I just love this restaurant and have for many years.

The service was exceptional as were the appetizers. The main course was very good (we had Bouillabaisse and Trout). My companion loved her souffle for desert. I had the bread pudding which was good but anticlimactic. We plan to go back.

We had the prefixed lunch and everything was wonderful. If you have never been to L'Augerge Chez Froncois, I would highly recommend that anyone give them a try. The prefixed menu is $45 per person which includes, appetizer, salad, main course, dessert and a glass of wine. Great value, and wonderful food.

We enjoyed the experience tremendously. My wife was a French teacher and loves everything French, so this was a special treat for her. I enjoyed it very much also, with the food, service and ambiance all top notch. We even had a nice chat with a neighboring table which was an extra bonus.

Absolutely the finest dining experience in terms of selection, quality, ambience, and service. Chez Francois never disappoints with its regular items and the specials are uniformly excellent and worth a try. Do not miss a soufflé at the end. And you will never find a better chocolate truffle to finish off your dining experience.

We had a very nice anniversary luncheon at L'Auberge -- the selections on the prix fixe menu were ample, the food was delicious and plentiful, the service was attentive but not hovering, the ambience was wonderful, and the prices were reasonable. This is definitely a "go to" restaurant for special occasions, especially if you like traditional French/Alsatian cuisine.

My wife and I had another of our many dinners at L'Auberge. As usual, the food was outstanding (we shared the Chateaubriand for two). The many courses in the complete dinner were all impressively prepared. I've never had an entree I haven't liked... we have tried them all from fish to steak, lamb and duck. The service was excellent (we were surprised that the restaurant was not filled to the usual near capacity, but it was a Sunday night). It still has the quaint and unique French country restaurant feel. The tables are well spaced to allow for private conversation. We treasure that L'Auberge Chez Francois is a great change of pace from the downtown restaurants where the tables are usually packed tight with sometimes excessive noise.

We had a delicious Sunday luncheon to celebrate a birthday. The lobster bisque and salad appetizers were a perfect preview of the tasty main dishes of trout filets, cassoulet and boeuf bourguignon. The birthday “boy” was honored with a special dessert, while the rest of us enjoyed soufflés and cake. This pleasant dining experience was punctuated by the competent and friendly server who was attentive to our requests and queries. We are looking forward to our next Auberge event.

Amazing amazing amazing
My fiancé is a trained classical French chef From the culinary Institute of America and has worked at a number five star Michelin French restaurant as well as the fountainbleu in Miami. He was blown away from the presentation, to the flavors to the service. We loved the French onion soup and the Caesar salad. The meats were prepared to perfection and the seafood was flavorful and fresh. Most of all our waiter who was new was accommodating, professional and wonderful!! He made sure our every needs were met. You have to get the soufflé! The bouillabaisse and meat sampler platter were delicious. We celebrated his birthday and we’re so impressed with everything. We can’t wait to bring our friends back.

Always a satisfying dining experience. Food is great however getting pretty expensive (I know when it was cheaper dining for 20 years). But given that I do really like the place and I let all my friends know and hope they dine there.
