Palo Verde at The Boulders Resort
Palo Verde is right on the cusp of a five star dining venue. A gentle nudge is all they need.
My wife and I spent 6 days at the resort. We dined at Palo Verde several times while there. We can say without condition that the food is some of the best we’ve ever had. An the service was impeccable. Staff are so polite, attentive, and professional. Last night Ismir was our server. He was absolutely fantastic. Ivan was one of our servers on two occasions and he was so polite. Deanna served us one night. She could not have been more friendly yet courteous.
Always enjoy it here. It is quiet, with beautiful views. And the food is always excellent!
Deanna our server was the best! Very personable and fun yet efficient. Beautiful out on the patio!
I love this restaurant. The scenery is stunning. The food is inventive and tasty. Erika, our server, was fabulous!
Chase and Ivan were wonderful as was the food. Appreciate that the tables aren't on top of each other, but feel a bit of greenery could have softened conversational noise between tables.
We have stayed at the Boulders several times and had notified in person two days prior that we were coming for a special birthday in our group and was assured that something would be done. I even confirmed it again in person a day before. Unfortunately towards the end of the dinner, it was obvious that my request had been forgotten- there was such an awkward situation where the waitress had to ask us about what we had requested, ruining the entire surprise/birthday celebration- we waited probably ten or more minutes for them then to bring something out- which was so after the fact and while it was a nice dessert tray- we were charged for it- no one ever asked for after dinner drinks or coffee- such a disappointment-
The restaurant was practically empty but service was excruciatingly slow and not very expert. The beet salad was good but the duck breast was mediocre at best. I will not go again.
Meal took over 2 hours. Dinner was delayed and steak was cold. Waiter dropped wine glass On the table and the wine and broken pieces fell all over my husbands lap and jacket. Brought check full bill and charged 20% gratuity for just my husband and I. When we complained about service, cost to dry clean his jacket, and poor food quality waiter just took off the cold steak and said the broken glass was “just” an accident - not truly sorry. Would not recommend
Our experience at the Palo Verde restaurant was nothing short of incredible. The chef's cooking and presentation was perfect and our waitress, Deanna, made this evening one to remember. Beautiful setting, quiet for such a large room, everything delivered to our table in a timely manner. If you can, you should book an evening dinner at the Palo Verde and you will not be disappointed.

Had a wonderful experience celebrating Valentine's early with my wife. The chef was very accommodating to her gluten allergy and the food was amazing! Ismir took great care of us - we loved his professionalism. We will be returning sometime soon!
Amazing restaurant that we ate at multiple times and loved every time. Breakfast and dinners are amazing. Would definitely return!
The food was great, service was spot on, and the entire evening was terrific! We really enjoy this restaurant.
Average food. Very helpful service. Sat us at a table just off the kitchen entry. (We had a reservation and we were very well dressed) Steak had no flavor. Scallops were good, white truffle flatbread was very good. If we stay there again, we will just visit a local restaurant.
We went for a Christmas Eve celebration and ordered from the prix-fixe menu. Our server looked and acted bored and disappeared sporadically. We understand that this was nobody's favorite shift and took it in stride. The ambiance--there isn't any and has not been for years. A very high ceiling, bare walls, tables placed without thought with random foot traffic all over. Our food was cold. It was sent back and delivered cold again. The manager denied that it had been precooked, chilled and then reheated, though the water, inadvertently, confirmed that. The kitchen needs to learn how to use its microwave. Do not go for a romantic occasion. You will be disappointed. Eat there if you have to and expect to pay a hefty price.
Thanks so much for the quiet dinner. Too many restaurants are crazy noisy! The food was excellent as well.
Our experience was dampened by children running around and screaming in the restaurant. The majority of tables occupied were by one or two couples trying to enjoy a rather expensive night out. The parents chose not to control the situation, rather ignore it. The young staff just shrugged their shoulders. The receptionist smiled and apologized. There seemed to not be anyone willing to confront the parents available. One table lamp was thrown on the floor by a young child and scattered in pieces. The food was okay.
We will not return.
There were only two tables in the whole place and it took 2-1/2 hours to serve us. Some food was very bad (short ribs) the rest was very pedestrian. We won’t be back.
Extremely relaxing and enjoyable Breakfast on the outside patio.
We had the restaurant to ourselves as we were the only 2 dining at the time. Our server was excellent and knowledgeable on the menu and spot on with his recommendations. Had the short ribs and the steak and they were cooked to perfection and elegantly displayed on the plate. The desert we had recommended was the coconut cheesecake and it was amazing and to top it off was a chocolate Martini. I highly recommend this place
We enjoyed our breakfast. Everybody enjoyed their food, the view was nice abd the day was gorgeous. Only complaint I have is that there was a landscaper using a leaf blower nearby and the noise was distracting for about 15 minutes.
First visit to Palo Verde and had a fantastic breakfast with great service. It was a nice day and we sat outside, gorgeous views.
Everything was perfect—Eleanor was very attentive without interrupting conversation, food was fresh and delicious, ambiance was beautiful! I love that this place is tucked away and exactly was is to be loved about Arizona!
In from out of town, we always stay at the resort when we are in town. First time for the restaurant, lack of wait staff and very slow service. And the place was practically empty. Food was so so but the bartender at the lobby bar was awesome and her drinks were fantastic!
Great patio dining.... perfect weather
It could be extremely enjoyable if there was a little more effort put into the patio decor including adding some heaters. Food is good but menu lacks imagination. The surroundings are to beautiful to not make the most of it. Service was good.
Unfortunately one of the worst experiences my wife and I have had in well over a decade. The main dining room lighting is so bright we asked to move to the bar area for more evening atmosphere. The wait staff finally took our drink order and we waited at least another 30 minutes for our food order. We finished our entire bottle of wine with no sign of any wait staff or food. We flagged down the wait staff to tell them to bring our check for the wine because we were witted for over 90 minutes and it was time to go home. They requested another 5 minutes of our time which turned into 10 minutes and sent us home with our food order. They did comp the food but sent us home with no silverware, plates or napkins. I understand this restaurant is under new management and unfortunately they have a long way to go to reach The Boulders Resort Level.
Very disappointed with our experience at Palo Verde. The Boulders Resort is beautiful and the service is top notch which makes our experience that much more disappointing. The restaurant has the ambience of a cafeteria, very bright lights, and the service is average at best. Our meal was pretty good but not what you’d expect from a 4-5 star resort. The icing on the cake was not recognizing my wife’s birthday even though it was noted when we made the reservation and upon confirmation. To make things even worse when I requested a candle for my wife’s dessert they had to scramble to find one and once they did determined no one had a match or lighter to light the candle. Unfortunately management did little to recognize this epic fail, so even more of a disappointment. There are other very good dining options in the area so until The Boulders decides to invest in a restaurant that is on par with the resort, I’d recommend going elsewhere.
If I could rated it less than one star I would have. The cocktails took 35 minutes to get to the table, and then the “filthy”martini had to be sent back bc it had zero dirty martini mix in it.
The waiter was pleasant enough, however he was about as un-solicitous as possible. The food came out after another extraordinarily long time, and everyone’s was luke warm. I had the pork, which was presented nicely, but was nothing but a chunk of fat in gravy! To top everything off, I got sick when I got home.
We live in Scottsdale, and. I can tell you, no one in my party will ever return. The best part of the meal was the bread!
The restaurant was not busy, our reservations were at 7:15. Already out of some of the food we tried to order, drinks incorrect and the service was extremely slow. Drink order took 15-20 minutes for two drinks to be delivered.
The service was great. The seating on the patio was quiet and scenic. The scallops were very good as was the meatloaf entree. The side dish accompanying the scallops was not appetizing at all. I could not identify it nor could I eat it. I would have been happy with a few spears of asparagus or green beans. There seemed to be an attempt by the chef to get exotic. No need for that.
This place has gone down hill significantly during the past few years and I’m not sure why. Find somewhere else to eat.
We had a delicious meal at Palo Verde. Service was impeccable, food was delicious and they accommodated my vegan diet.
Thanksgiving dinner was delightful! Food is great, service is hit or miss.
Blake was awesome and the food good. Thanksgiving Dinner was great. Other two meals very good.
My friend and I ate here on Thanksgiving 2018. We were originally going to be seated inside in an awful spot, but asked to be seated outside, and got a very nice spot (not by the edge near the greens--those had to be reserved) where we could still see the greenery with a table that accommodated lots of food. Which was good since the food was served "family style." The food, though, arrived cold and we had to ask that it be warmed up. They brought us new plates and new portions of food. The food was traditional and very tasty. The service, though, was great! The wait staff obviously wanted to provide the best service possible; they were interested, attentive and accommodating of every request! It wasn't cheap and there was a 20% mandatory gratuity--but we felt our wait staff earned it! We recommend Palo Verde at the Boulders whole-heartedly!
We went to Palo Verde restaurant for Thanksgiving dinner. The food was excellent, beautiful presentation,
nice views, waiter very polite and accommodating and overall a very nice restaurant and a pleasant experience. We are going back for our anniversary in December.
I have been visiting the Boulders and dining in Palo Verde for almost 20 years, and it pains me to be critical of a place that my family and I have loved for years. It was formerly an upscale-casual restaurant with a significant southwestern flair expressed in both cuisine (remembering the amazing green chile cornbread for bread service) and unique decor (one felt as if one were dining in the middle of the Sonoran desert), and it boasted an impressive wine list from a cellar shared with the more formal Latilla. All of that is gone. The physical space post-renovation is sterile, cold, and uninviting. The architects of the renovation completely missed the mark in terms of connection with the surrounding desert. The wine list is disappointing (wines of average quality but really lacking - as in absent - for premium selections). The servers were young and enthusiastic, but displayed inconsistent knowledge of menu items. The food was the best part of the experience, but it was not something out of the ordinary. I left feeling sad and thinking about how special it had once been.
