Except for the minor hicup of them notifying OpenTable that we were a no show we had a great time. We had an excellent meal with great service. I would highly recommend L’atelier of Boulder.

Food was awesome, service was a little spotty as we had to eventually flag down the waiter for our check. Although I appreciate they didn't try to rush us.

L’Ateleir is the place to go if you’re looking for good food, a leisurely dinner, and a relatively quiet environment. My friends and I each ordered a different entry, and none of us left a morsel on our plates. The service was friendly and attentive without being intrusive. One note of warning: the desserts are delightful but quite large. Plan to share.

We've been dining at L'Atelier for many years, so were interested in seeing how it's been reinvented. The restaurant was quite full on a Friday evening, yet we were seated promptly and our waiter introduced himself shortly thereafter. My first course -- Maine mussels and clams -- had a delicious broth that would have been a hit if presented as a soup course. Mussels were enormous and sweet. Beef tenderloin was succulent and cooked to perfection. My wife thought her "Lobster TV dinner" was highly inventive but a bit lacking in flavor. Having read about service problems in prior reviews I had modest expectations, but the service was off-scale outstanding (maybe they read the reviews and made corrections?) In any case, a memorable evening.

We enjoyed an Antinori wine dinner at L'Atelier. We've been going to the Antinori wine dinner for several years. It has always been excellent. The wines were wonderful. But it is the food that we keep coming back for. This year, the menu started with three oysters which had a tasty sauce on top. The next course was a duck rillette which was very flavorful. The main was lamb. A staple of wine dinners and it was prepared perfectly. The best of the lot was dessert. It looked like a scoop of ice cream. But was a delicious cheesecake. Service was impeccable. We look forward to the next wine dinner or my birthday so that we can enjoy this wonderful restaurant again.

We made reservations for a table for Thanksgiving. We were quite happy with the menu for that occasion, as it was varied. There was also a vegetarian option. We had to wait about one half hour for the table that was reserved.
We ordered a number of different entrees. It took a long time for them to bring bread to the table - had to ask for it. When the entrees came, one was missing. Then the server said there were no scallops left as all the entrees were being served to the other diners. The server asked the person who had ordered scallops what she wanted.
We were very shocked that it wasn't until everyone was being served that the server said one of the entrees wasn't available. He did give her a salad while her entrée was being prepared, but she wasn't able to eat her entrée with us. The restaurant did comp her entree.
We thought the food was very well prepared and everyone enjoyed their food. This was the first time we went there and would definitely go again.

We have dined here for the past eight years and the food remains consistently excellent. On this occasion, however, the service was considerably less knowledgeable and attentive. additionally, even more disappointing was the extraordinary uplifts applied to the wine list pricing. For example, a wine that is available locally for $24/bottle was priced at $86 - unreasonably so in my opinion and that excessive approach to fair value will prevent us from returning. I understand the costing process for wine but this type of markup is beyond anything we have personally experienced at highly rated NYC and SF restaurants of equal or superior quality. Disappointing would be the kindest comment offered.

Fortunate to get a table at L'Atelier, on a Friday evening before Thanksgiving, but very glad that we did. As usual the food was truly excellent, the service quiet and unobtrusive and very friendly if - perhaps - the current staff are not quite as knowledgeable and well trained as the staff were a few years ago....? The wine list seems to have gone heavy on Reds, French and Italian, but is nonetheless exquisite and pretty reasonably priced (for Boulder). Odd maybe that - given the number and quality of the local breweries - the beer selection is really extremely limited (?); but I guess that's not what one goes to L'Atelier for? Would we go back? Absolutely!!! This place is a true gem and I most certainly very highly recommend it.

Food flavors and presentation are superb, as befits a world class chef and kitchen staff. Service excellent, although really crushed by a full house including large parties. L'Atelier is my and my wife's "go to" for special occasions.

The appetizers (mussels and oysters) were amazing, however the main entrees were not so great. I got the red snapper and it was EXTREMELY overcooked and dry, my wife got the TV dinner and her lobster was also very overcooked and the quality of the shrimp and lobster was honestly comparable to a low grade Red Lobster. Dessert was great as well and our server was great and on top of it. For the price there is a lot better in Boulder, and with so many options we won't be going back

One of the best meals I've had in Boulder! This place is a little hole-in-the-wall. The atmosphere is upscale, but you don't have to be dressed to the nines. The lobster appetizer was amazing--homemade pasta. The ceasar salad was beautifully presented and lightly dressed. My entree was the "TV dinner", a play on an old fashioned TV dinner from the 1960s and it was delicious! My husband had the lamb entree, equally delicious. And, dessert, magnifique! We ordered the bananas foster, which was presented in an unusual decanter-like glass dish. I would just go there for the dessert options. Can you tell we REALLY loved our dinner? Will definitely return for another visit and would highly recommend to anyone who craves a quality meal.

We’ve enjoyed L’Atelier regularly in the past as a special occasion treat, but the last couple of times (over the last year) it’s felt like it’s running on reputation. Ordinarily L’Atelier would receive the maximum star rating but the wait staff was unsure of their assignments, the “TV dinner” lobster was tough and hard to remove from its shell. I do recommend the beet salad this time of year and duck confit was perfectly tender. The rest of the plate appeared to have been waiting for a few too many minutes after plating and before delivery to the table.
Slightly frustrating: our bottle of white wine was resting in an ice bucket over 10 feet away & we had to wave down someone to keep us from “going arid” twice. In their defense, that was the closest location to put it - as our table for two was squeezed into a small space. Creatively, the bread basket was attached to the side of the table to extend available space. I’d never seen that & it works well.

From the ambiance, which was touted to be romantic and intimate, to the food, supposedly the hidden gem of boulder, I can't really explain just how disappointed we were with our experience.

Firstly, the food. Bland, weird, and not deserving of a fine dining status. Seriously: mashed potatoes with escargot? Not a match. Then there was the 'TV dinner'. It can basically be called 'bitter bitter bland and a piece of lobster'. Food: subpar.

Secondly, the service was extremely sub par. The wine menu is overpriced and the wine service is really just a person opening your bottle of wine and then letting you pour it yourself. The servers didn't present a single dish to us, rarely checked on our table, and overall seemed undertrained. Service: lacking.

Lastly, the cheese. For a French restaurant to serve overripe cheese is a travesty. The moment a soft cheese takes on an ammonia like taste it is old. It should not be presented as 'rare' or 'special' cheese. The cheese was past it best, was served in massive portions and the accompaniments were lacking, and in the case of the honeycomb, fake. Cheese (at a French reataurant): about as good as you can get in any grocery store.

All in all very disappointed. A final bill of $208 for two people for a subpar experience.

However, there is one shining star... the lobster ravioli. Although drowned in enough sauce to call it a soup (but served with no spoon) it was actually a real standout. It's about the only thing I would compliment.

First time at this restaurant. We were here because we were visiting my son at CU. The food was really good we really enjoyed everything we had. The food all came out as a work of art. My son had the lobster "TV Dinner" and he said it was amazing. My husband and I both had the lamb chops which we really loved. The staff was really nice and very friendly.

We attended a most excellent Champagne, Lobster and Chocolate wine dinner. Lobster four ways and an excellent chocolate mousse for dessert. About the only negative was the pacing of the courses. We started at 7pm and left after 10:30. But the food, as always, was excellent. L’atalier is still my favorite Colorado restaurant.

We enjoyed a fabulous meal with our college son during Family Weekend. I recommend dressing nicely as we felt a little too casual in our Boulder gear. The food and wine were en pointe and perfectly presented. We shared delicious escargot and then I had a beautiful fish. Son had lobster ravioli and hubby had a pork dish. I wish I could remember more about the dishes but we were engrossed in our son, whom we have missed dearly. Memorable meal even without the details and we are sure to return.

This place never disappoints. The food is always excellent, and we absolutely love how quiet it is, which is very much a rarity these days. It is one of our favorite "special occasion" restaurants. If you are vegetarian, they will prepare a vegetarian platter by special request. My wife always orders that, and it includes a medley of vegetables, rice and cheeses, beautifully prepared. If wine is your thing, the wine list is extensive, and the wines by the glass are expertly chosen.

This is a fancy night out! The food is quality for which you will pay quality prices. They have an extensive wine list. The place is quiet and the booths are tucked away to provide further privacy and romance. The decor is simple so the ambience is lacking slightly in my opinion. Emphasis here is on the food and it is delicious.

One of the more (most?) underrated restaurants in Boulder. True, it may not adhere to the latest trends in hipness and such, but if you are looking for some of the best food in town, an excellent wine list, impeccable service, an intimate, quiet place to just sit back and enjoy the food and the company of whomever you are taking along, L'Atelier should be on top of your list.

And yes, unlike most places these days, you can actually carry on a conversation without having to shout.
