About LaSalette Restaurant
At home amidst the historic buildings surrounding Sonoma's historic plaza, LaSalette Restaurant has earned its reputations as one of the Sonoma Valley's favorite restaurants since its inception in 1998. Chef Manuel Azevedo's signature Cozinha Nova Portuguesa- "New Portuguese Cuisine" -celebrates the varied and complex flavors of his native Portuguese homeland while adapting them to the immense offerings of top-quality ingredients from his current home in California. The result is a unique cuisine characterized by familiar Sourthern European comfort ingredients, exotic seasonings picked from around the glove during hundreds of years of Portuguese expeditionary voyages, and fresh local and seasonal Californian produce. As the success of LaSalette attests, it's a winning combination for lovers of traditonal Portuguese fare and adventurous gourmets alike.

LaSalette Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
I've probably been here 8 times now and the chef always surprises in a wonderful way. The bread is warm, the Portuguese medium-body Douoro balanced and the food a delight. This experience started with the green salad which turned out to be a creative take on a caprese salad. The slightly green tomates were on a bed of green leaves under which there was humus with a balsamic reduction. On diagonal corners of the dish was a thick line of crushed grilled peanuts. Wow!
The second dish was the sliced grilled octopus, perfectly prepared, surrounding an onion puree. Outstanding.
Then the scallops in a light panko breading, maintaining the scallops' delicate taste. Delicious.
The one let-down was the rabbit. The taste was too smokey so the nuanced flavor of the rabbit was lost.
But it is a delight to come. I shall return!
We were expecting a really great dining experience, and it was just average. We had nice service, but nothing out of the ordinary. The food was good, but inconsistent. One of our party had the fresh fish, which was delicious and huge. Two of us had the fish stew, and it was barely appetizer size and one of us had broken shells throughout the dish, to the point he couldn’t finish it. It was like the restaurant only had one serving left and made it into two small servings. Very disappointing.
La Salette was highly recommended to us by several people. We were spending the weekend in Sonoma and felt excited to get reservations. We got to the restaurant and the hostess was less than friendly. She put us at a table outside that felt cramped and busy with customers passing by and wait staff. She asked if we’d like water, which she never delivered. Then, for at least 5-7 minutes we waited for someone to acknowledge us! Our waitress finally arrived, and was friendly. We ordered scallops to be told after she walked away with our order, that they were sold out. Sigh. We decided on another dish that was just ok. Our waitress never came back to check on us after we received our meal, never refilled our wine glasses with the bottle we purchased, and so the overall experience for us was less that awesome. I’m surprised so many people talked La Salette up. Won’t be back.
I had friends from Chicago/Florida visiting who wanted to take me to dinner. Ca Bianca was my choice and they loved the whole experience, especially the wait staff. I've lived in Sonoma County since 2008 and Ca Bianca has been my go-to great dining experience ever since. Highly recommend it.
My wife and I have dined here on many occasions and are always well taken care of by the efficient and attentive staff, and of course enjoying the ambience and food.
We recommend you review the menu before booking as the items are not what you would find elsewhere in the Wine Country here.
I am a sucker for this restaurant - I've now been about a half dozen times, and I think it's the best in the city of Sonoma. Portuguese in theme, using authentic spices and preparations - all done impeccably and deliciously. And maybe the best dinner rolls in the world....
Most recently I had a scallop appetizer, cooked perfectly with terrific seasoning. The steak I had was perfectly cooked and the sauce was out of this world flavorful, truly a great dish. The wine list is mostly Portuguese, with very nice choices listed by style to help you. Just wish they had a few more dessert choices. I highly recommend this restaurant and wish I could eat there every week. We spent about $120 for two, sharing appetizer and dessert, with 2 glasses of wine and two entrees.
Service was great. One issue with this restaurant was that the overall temperature inside was hot. We told server and her response was "sorry" no explanation or attempt to change it. The other thing was there were multiple flies inside! I honestly don't understand why a restaurant would not have someone walk around prior to opening and address this. My husband got the sea bass which was very good but my fish casserole .. not so tasty ... scallops were good as an app.
Food was very good. Service was very slow and sometimes just absent. I am saying we did not see our server for at least 30-40 minutes. It was a bit awkward after a while. I like to linger over conversation but our dinner took 3 and 1/2 hours because our server kept disappearing.
When she did show up, there was nothing said. I really was confused at what the problem could have been. It seemed everyone else had great service. Either way, it will be a while before I go back. It is a nice place to dine, price is high, therefore you expect a higher standard of service. Not a lower one.
