About LaSalette Restaurant
At home amidst the historic buildings surrounding Sonoma's historic plaza, LaSalette Restaurant has earned its reputations as one of the Sonoma Valley's favorite restaurants since its inception in 1998. Chef Manuel Azevedo's signature Cozinha Nova Portuguesa- "New Portuguese Cuisine" -celebrates the varied and complex flavors of his native Portuguese homeland while adapting them to the immense offerings of top-quality ingredients from his current home in California. The result is a unique cuisine characterized by familiar Sourthern European comfort ingredients, exotic seasonings picked from around the glove during hundreds of years of Portuguese expeditionary voyages, and fresh local and seasonal Californian produce. As the success of LaSalette attests, it's a winning combination for lovers of traditonal Portuguese fare and adventurous gourmets alike.

LaSalette Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We arrived an hour early, they seated us at the bar where we requested. I had the Fisherman Stew-it was filled with clams, mussels, white fish, 2 prawns, scallops, linguica and potatoes all in a spicy broth with a hint cilantro. It was served piping hot and filled me up. I would order this dish again. The service was 5 star. I enjoy sitting at the bar watching the chefs prepare our food which is all cooked in a wood fired oven!!!
We were not familiar with Portuguese food, and so glad we tried it. The traditional cod casserole was outstanding, the service was excellent and our server graciously answered all of our questions about ingredients, style of cooking. We had heard that the desserts were fabulous and we concur! The tawny port was the best we've ever had.
This was my first visit to LaSalette when the food was not outstanding. Started with the apple salad which showed usual excellence but the scallops were a disappointment. The serving of octopus was tiny in comparison to previous portions and was a little rubbery (overcooked). Finally the pork was good but not great.
I'm hopeful that the kitchen just had a bad day because I have very good memories of this place.
If you like whole fish, the branzino was fantastic! Love the wood oven taste. The sea bass was sublime, simple and tasty. Every dish we had here was outstanding, fresh and thoughtfully plated. Only to be topped by the service...with attention to small details. Would go often if we lived in the area.
I can't recommend La Salette enough - I've been there several times now and it never disappoints - great service, ambiance, and terrific Portuguese inspired cuisine with amazing sauces. Priced similarly to other restaurants on Sonoma Plaza, but it delivers a superior experience from beginning (best dinner rolls in the world) to end (great new choices on the dessert menu, and a great Port selection).
Elegant and delicious. I really enjoyed the rice dish—I think it was Arroz Valenciana or something like that. It was similar to paella and they were quite generous with the meat and shellfish. I could have eaten more rice, though.
I liked that they had warm bread—so much better than cold bread, and these rolls were yummy.
So often, a beet salad is a bunch of greens or lettuce with a few slices of beets. Their beet root salad was all beets with just a hint of some kind of green. The goat cheese in the beet salad was delicious.
While it was a bit expensive, my friend and I got a decent amount of food and drink for the price. So overall, I’d recommend it. I look forward to going back.
Pretty disappointed. The restaurant was beautiful and elegantly decorated. Service was excellent, but I expected very flavorful Portuguese food and was unhappy to find a small, bland meal instead. For the prices I though the food would be better. My companions dinner was also small and bland and really nothing to speak of. I would not recommend this and probably will not go there again, esp with so many other good restaurants in the area.
LaSalette is as good - and perhaps better - than high-end, gourmet restaurants in Portugal. We have not been to a Bay Area or east coast Portuguese restaurant that approaches the quality found at this restaurant in the City of Sonoma. The lunch menu is a gem. You can order typical, fairly low cost lunches common in the area or Portuguese dinners usually found only on evening meal menus. Even if you are not familiar with Portuguese cooking, give this place a try. We travel 42 miles - one way - from our home to indulge at this restaurant.
A wonderful find! Packed at 6pm on a weeknight! Creative and delicious Italian menu, super quick and friendly service, reasonable prices and so good! Caesar salad was ice cold and crispy. I had the Chicken Diavola, which was one of the best chicken dishes I've ever eaten! Mildly spicy, soft as butter, with a marinated/rubbed taste. Interesting and innovative, and I ate way more than I was hungry for. Nice outdoor seating area, great wine selection! A neighborhood gem!
I've probably been here 8 times now and the chef always surprises in a wonderful way. The bread is warm, the Portuguese medium-body Douoro balanced and the food a delight. This experience started with the green salad which turned out to be a creative take on a caprese salad. The slightly green tomates were on a bed of green leaves under which there was humus with a balsamic reduction. On diagonal corners of the dish was a thick line of crushed grilled peanuts. Wow!
The second dish was the sliced grilled octopus, perfectly prepared, surrounding an onion puree. Outstanding.
Then the scallops in a light panko breading, maintaining the scallops' delicate taste. Delicious.
The one let-down was the rabbit. The taste was too smokey so the nuanced flavor of the rabbit was lost.
But it is a delight to come. I shall return!
We were expecting a really great dining experience, and it was just average. We had nice service, but nothing out of the ordinary. The food was good, but inconsistent. One of our party had the fresh fish, which was delicious and huge. Two of us had the fish stew, and it was barely appetizer size and one of us had broken shells throughout the dish, to the point he couldn’t finish it. It was like the restaurant only had one serving left and made it into two small servings. Very disappointing.
