The food was very good. The sauces/seasonings elevated and complemented the food without overwhelming. Love the unique seasonings. My halibut was fantastic although a tad over cooked. Scallops, steak, clams and desserts, (flan and sorbet flight) were outstanding. French press coffee was fabulous. Service was 5 *! Loved the Portuguese wine flights and must have sangria!
Have been to LaSalette several times--usually sit outside on a lovely, quiet patio. Its Winter, so we sat inside, fireplace roaring, cozy on a rainy day, big windows, lovely decor, feels like being in Portugal. Authentic cuisine, interpreted wonderfully. Our 45th anniversary. Most others were there for: three friends at an adult birthday gathering; a young couple who just became engaged; three ladies who were enjoying their scallops-for-appetizers; two 30-something women at the bar; a family with an older gentleman who needed a wheel chair sitting comfortably in a private area in the back, which they had requested. At noon on a cold, rainy Saturday in the Winter, it filled up by 12:15 pm. Very popular, but mostly locals were there. When my daughter was in College we took her there and she loved it. Elegant, but still feels very comfortable and the personal attention is warm, not pretentious.
Wonderful time at LaSalette. Food was great and service is delightful. Although the restaurant was almost full, the atmosphere was pleasant and relaxing, with attentive staff and very fresh food.
We tried 4 different sections and three desserts and each and every one was perfectly prepared, presented and delicious. Totally exceeded expectations and price to meal value was right where it would be expected.
Clearly will return.
Rarely find Portuguese restaurants and this one very good. Food, service and wine selection all very good. We enjoyed our meal.
While the restaurant was lovely and the food was overall reasonably good, my particular dish was too salty, and that overshadowed the other tastes in the dish. My husband, on the other hand had a seafood dish that was well prepared and tasty. The prices were on the high side, and for me, the food was not worth the price.
Great food, great staff, great atmosphere. The staff provided nice incites into the meal and researched our questions. Must eat here more often.
We love the staff and the food, great location and true gourmet experience!
Consistently excellent meals coupled with friendly service. We enjoyed dining outside.
I went in expecting it to be good and it greatly exceeded my expectations. Count me very impressed!
So happy that the original menu is back! We loved it!
We always go to La Salette when we go to Sonoma. Locals seem to go there regularly too.
Food is authentic Portuguese, very good quality, and relaxed yet professional service.
Excellent food. The asparagus soup was amazing!
Service was impeccable.
Love this place!
My favorite place to eat whenever I am in Sonoma.
Lovely quiet relaxing meal. Had a good wine recommendation from the server.
Somewhat limited menu but all items we tried were delicious!
Absolutely one of our best meals! We had cod cakes, bass and branzini. All were unique and perfectly served. Wonderful service and wine, as well.
The food was amazing and wine flights fit perfectly with the food. Both appetizers Octopus and Braised tongue had incredible sauces, fisherman stew had just the right amount of spice and both seafood and broth tasted great. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
Great wine and bread. The asparagus soup was bland and the Brazilian dish was $25 for rice and beans with no meat. Bland and disappointing.
The Portuguese fish stew was outstanding, as was the beef tongue appetizer - so tender. Our server suggested a pinot noir to go with dinner, which was perfect. I highly recommend.
Delightfully surprised about how good the food was. Some unique tastes.
Food was good not great. Service was excellent.
Great food, non-rushed setting. Good attention by waiters. Fantastic combinations of flavors. My favorite restaurant in Sonoma. Not particularly easy for an out-of-towner to find. Fun to be so close to the square.
We came across this restaurant while visiting Sonoma. We wanted a Latin fare restaurant and this was recommended to us. This is a wonderful Portuguese restaurant. I have NEVER had a beet appetizer served the way the did. Amazing. For my main course I had the sea bass. The best I have EVER had. Thick, cooked just right and with a flavor that was unbelievable. My husband had the fish stew we he raved about. Hard to get a reservation so be sure to reserve in advance!!!
We went on a Thursday evening so it wasn't too crowded. Thoroughly enjoyed the vegetarian entree and the seafood stew. Exceptional hot bread and dessert menus. Unobtrusive and efficient service. Good value and enjoyable dining experience. We will definitely return.
Great food and service.
La Salette was such a great experience, even more than the great reviews we read prior to our arrival. We are going to vacation in Portugal soon and were curious about the cuisine. Every selection at La Salette was beautifully presented, incredibly fresh and delicious. The seafood was comparable to the great selections we appreciate in the Bay Area, but with a twist. My sea bass was delicious, presented on a bed of collards and corn. The salt cod is imported daily and the process from receipt to table was interestingly explained. A cultural experience to say the least. Our server was knowledgable and attentive, translating the dishes in Portuguese. Truly a memorable Valentines evening experience. There is a wonderful patio for lunch or summer evenings. Heaters are ready to turn on for cooler nights. We ate indoors which was cozy and conducive for quiet conversations, yet a lively atmosphere overall. Make reservations to assure a table, however, on sunny days, take a chance for more tables. A true gem of a restaurant. The restaurant courtyard entry is located on the Sonoma Square. Locate the famous Ledson Theatre on the square (east side of the square and travel down the courtyard to the left of the theatre.
We returned to La Salette after several years absence and wished we had been back sooner. Our Valentine's Day lunch date was completed by the inventive, unusual Portuguese themed menu items with characteristic pairing of fish/shellfish and chorizo in the "Fishermans Stew"(came with mussels, clams, mountainous tiger prawns, chorizo and tasty brothy in a serious bowl.
The pork shoulder with clams was also delicious. Be sure to ask for double helpings of their bread- you will need it to mop up.
The wine-list has Californian and Portuguess choices, she had the Wellington barrel-aged chardonnay, and he had the reserve vinho verde. Both by the glass at less than $10 on Sonoma Plaza. Entrees around $25 for lunch.
A chocolate mousse to share and we were purring. The situation has always been the one slight let down, but accept that it is not a scenic go-to and enjoy the food and service!
All dishes well prepared, presented and excellent service. Limited but serviceable wine list at good prices. Have dined here several times, dependable, unique menu with several house mainstays (Portugese fish dishes, stew). Recommend for something different and tasty, pleasant setting and service.
We tried LaSalette based on the reviews and were not disappointed. If you are looking for a unique dining experience, this is it. The service as well as the food were outstanding. This is Portuguese style and very well presented.
The four of us very much enjoyed our lunch at La Salette. We have been trying the restaurants in Sonoma since moving here a year and a half ago. La Salette is, in my view, the best so far in terms of the taste of the food itself and certainly the presentation of the food. I am not one to take pictures of plates, but in this case I did. It is a lovely little restaurant , and the wait staff were very friendly, made one or two minor mistakes, but these didn't matter. Friendliness is the key. One of us has traveled extensively to Brazil so made valuable suggestions on the menu choices as this is an authentic Portuguese/Brazilian restaurant. The chocolate mousse dessert was just a beautiful creation. It was a little on the expensive side for Sonoma, but not for San Francisco or other main cities. I'm mainly a New Yorker and this is right in line with their pricing, much better (at this price) in terms of food and presentation for the most part. There must be an artistic person in this kitchen! How a meal looks is so important, I think.
This was our second visit to La Salette and it won’t be our last! This time we ordered four small plates which were delicious and showed off the kitchen’s talents! Loved the three ounce pours of wine. Next time I will have more room for the beautiful entrees! Definitely worth a visit. It is a unique restaurant on Sonoma square!
LaSalette is my favorite Sonoma restaurant for lunch and special occasions. I have never been disappointed. This last Sunday I had their Arroz á Valenciana, Portuguese paella - it was out of this world!!
Nice food. Nice atmosphere. Good service. Great location.
The dinner we had was absolutely delicious! I'm still dreaming about the Fisherman's Stew!
Food and service was very good. Had 7 pm reservation and didn’t get seated until 7:50 for a birthday. Disappointed.
We really enjoyed our experience. Service was excellent, the dishes were creative and delicious. Atmosphere was quaint and lively. A very popular restaurant.
Lovely food in a lovely atmosphere. Not the same old same old menu items.
If you love unbland Mediterranean flavored seafood seasoned perfectly in the Portuguese tradition....this is the place to go. A medium sized menu...but everything on it is
delicious and wonderfully executed. Service is also impeccable.
It’s described as a Mediterranean / Portuguese restaurant, but it’s not. It’s really a Brazilian Portuguese. Nothing Mediterranean about it. It was very good, but don’t come here is you’re looking for Med food.
The experience was phenomenal. The food was very well presented and delicious. The service was great. We had lunch and then went for a walk and returned for dessert and coffee. The traditional dessert made my husband really nostalgic. Will definitely be back
