At home amidst the historic buildings surrounding Sonoma's historic plaza, LaSalette Restaurant has earned its reputations as one of the Sonoma Valley's favorite restaurants since its inception in 1998. Chef Manuel Azevedo's signature Cozinha Nova Portuguesa- "New Portuguese Cuisine" -celebrates the varied and complex flavors of his native Portuguese homeland while adapting them to the immense offerings of top-quality ingredients from his current home in California. The result is a unique cuisine characterized by familiar Sourthern European comfort ingredients, exotic seasonings picked from around the glove during hundreds of years of Portuguese expeditionary voyages, and fresh local and seasonal Californian produce. As the success of LaSalette attests, it's a winning combination for lovers of traditonal Portuguese fare and adventurous gourmets alike.

Had an al fresco lunch at LaSalette which was good in every way -- ambiance, food, and service. The fried sardine starter was perfectly prepared and nicely presented. The Portuguese style paella that followed was wonderfully spiced and liberally plied with linguisa, clams, mussels, a mammoth scallop and what looked like a quail egg. The dish was both elegant and hearty. The wine, a Gordian Knot Albarino (a dry white Iberian varietal) proved a perfect accompaniment. As to the question of whether or not I'd recommend LaSalette to a friend, well, I already have.

Our party of four went here for lunch after wine tasting at Three Sticks at the Adobe. Two of us had the rice dish, similar to a spanish paella. It was absolutely delicious. One had fish and chips, one had a pulled pork sandwich. They also enjoyed their selections. Service was professional and friendly. We were pleased that we had chosen La Salette for lunch and we agreed that we'd love to come back on our next trip to Sonoma. Thank you.

The food is delicious. I started with the cucumber gazpacho. well seasoned and refreshing. The fish tacos are good. The desserts were amazing little treats. The 4 of us split several types.

We had good experience with the food and the server. Initially we were seated inside at a dark corner and when we asked for outdoor seating, the host insisted that it’s only for walk-ins. Finally, after trying to understand their seating policy, we asked if we can be seated in the front corner near the window. The host could have been more proactive in sensing that we’re uncomfortable to be in the dark area when it’s bright daylight and warm.

I used to love this place, but it was $380 (including tip) for 4 people and we only had 3 glasses of wine (total, not each). I don't mind expensive but the server was, odd, and not helpful, dish timing was off, way to long wait between courses, and I had the halibut which was very overcooked and dry (shame!) and the corn under it was dry too... needed lots of water to swallow the food.

Pretty nice area with nice restaurant, but outside sitting doesn't have heater which getting cold at night time. food is not bad, but price is kind high, maybe is because of the winery area to make every expensive.

First of all, there was no air conditioning on a very hot day in Sonoma. With the open oven spilling heat into the room, the temperature was almost unbearable. The ceilings fans were on low, which is a big problem, as what little air that was circulating was very warm. This should be noted in the description of the restaurant. The room was too small for the number of people seated and the sound level was high because there’s nothing to absorb it.

The food was fair at best. The scallops were slightly undercooked. The tasca plate had “ok” ham and linguica. The fish filet was overcooked and dry. The collard greens tasted like plastic. In the Completa, there was no way to tell the difference between the pork and the beef.

The service was “ok” and a little awkward.

With so many other great choices in Sonoma, we probably will not return. Not recommended.

The food was fantastic. We went early with our teen children- who have been to Portugal and love food. Would be a great place for a romantic dinner a little later when the families have gone. Really good from start to finish.

Overall the food was fair yet expensive for small servings. It was really hot day inside the restaurant and the waitress blame it on the oven. No, turn up the fans and air conditioner would have been more sufficient. I have read this was a problem form others too. I would not recommend this restaurant and we will not be returning for another meal at LaSalette.

We had family visiting from back east and wanted to take them some place special since our last dinner here was wonderful. It was a disappointment.

Food quality was definitely down from our first visit about 9 months ago. Tuna Tartare was dry and low quality tuna. The Sausage in the seafood stew was over cooked and rubbery.

Service was slow. Our party of four got our entrees a good 45-60 minutes after placing our order. The table of 2 next to us , was seated after us and was finishing their dessert when our entrees finally arrived

Enjoyed the food and experience. We were met with an amuse bouche of a beet puree of sorts and the meal ended with a passion fruit bite covered in coconut. Our server Maggie was wonderful. Her description of the dishes were spot on with flavor and appearance. I had the wood fired octopus as a starter and followed with the wood fired white fish available that day.

Make sure to get a reservation. I did, but still waited 15-20 minutes in order to sit inside.
A con would be the sangria, as it was too sweet.

We have been to this restaurant 3 times, the last time was a few years ago. This is the first time we were disappointed. The “charred octopus” appetizer was Tibet, not very charred and poor quality. The heirloom tomatoes salad starter had very few heirloom tomatoes, but had some regular tomatoes, cucumbers and poor quality cheese. The wine selection was not good, especially given the region it’s in. The dinner were ok. My wife had cod and I had the fisherman’s stew. Both meals were good. It couldn’t compensate for the overall experience.

We went to LaSalette for an early dinner on a rather warm day in Sonoma. The restaurant was very hot and stuffy making our dinner uncomfortable. I asked the server if they could turn up the speed of the fan that was over our table. But I just received a not very sympathetic, standard response that the fan was at its highest speed. We didn't want to have dinner on the patio because it was still too sunny and the restaurant didn't have any kind of shade for the sun. We also spoke with other people who felt the same about the heat level in the restaurant. I've eaten at this restaurant several times in the past and have typically enjoyed our dinner. And normally the hostess and servers are very friendly. Not sure what the issue was that night but if I'm going there in the future I would probably go later in the evening when it typically is cooler.
