Las Tablas Colombian Steak House - Irving Park
Monday - Thursday 11pm to 10pm
Friday & Saturday 11am to 11pm
Sunday 11am to 9 pm
Went here to taste the food because I was interested in renting the banquet space but the food was poor. The presentation of the appetizers was poor. The plantain balls stuffed with cheese and guava read great on the menu but they were overly ripe and you could not taste any cheese and the tiny piece of guava was lost in the mushy oily mess inside the ball.
The other appetizer was a cornbread “arepa” with chorizo. There was a small piece of chorizo and and an arepa that was cut in 4 pieces that was very dry.
My entree was a sort of garlic chicken dish and the chicken was very very over cooked and the texture was almost rubbery.
I asked for rice and beans on the side and the waitress forgot and when I reminded her she said they had run out of white rice but then came back with a smalll plate of rice and beans. The rice was scraped off the bottom of the pot which for some is a delicacy but I would say the beans were tasty and that was the only thing good about my whole dish.
My partner asked for a stuffed chicken and it had an almost glow in the dark green sauce all over the plate. Quite sloppy again with the presentation. He said his dish was “edible” which didn’t say much at all. The yuca on the plate along with the potato seemed as if was heated in the microwave too long. Just hard and dry.
He asked for sparking water and they gave him tap water. I tasted and then asked a 2nd waitress for sparkling water and she came back with a glass of; tap water once again.
There was a guitarist who played very well and that was nice. The waitress didn’t come back to ask if all was fine. We had to ask another waitress for the sparking water and then wait quite a while for the check and the place was empty so didn’t understand the delay. Overall we had to give it a bad rating. Besides the beans and the guitarist all else was poor.
Food was just okay, portions were small, and drinks didn’t seem well made. Music was great, but overall quality was lackluster. Perhaps due to Mother’s Day it suffered.
Arrived at time of reservation, sat pretty quickly and received water and some tray of dipping sauces. We waited 15 minutes and left as not one server greeted us or let us know they would be over soon.. no attention what so ever. 3 servers entered our area served the other tables in our section and didn’t even look our way. So we left. Really disappointing as we then drove 15 minutes to Bucktown to eat at Las Palmas and would rate them 5/5 stars for quality, food, service, ambiance and general attention to their paying patrons
I was truly disappointed tonight with Las Tablas. I had a 7 pm reservation and was seated promptly. Shortly after we were seated our waiter came and took our orders, both appetizer and main entrees. Then the live band started, which I didn't know was going to be there. The music was so loud I couldn't even talk to my friend who was in town. The waiter came by only once after bringing our food to clear our plates. He asked if we would like dessert and we said we would like to look at the dessert menu. 20 minutes later and the waiter still did not return. Another 10 minutes later we still never saw our waiter and got up, squeezing through the crowded seating to get to the hostess stand. We had to yell in the hostess' ear that we wanted our bill since our waiter never came back. After standing for another 10 min at the front of the restaurant, the waiter finally came with our bill. It was the most ridiculous situation to deal with when trying to have a nice meal out.
We've been there before and the food and service was not up to par had to ask the waiter for my drink three separate times also the food was salty and some of the food was actually lukewarm you could so it was not freshly made.
Food was good but service was horrible. Went to celebrate my mom’s birthday and left very disappointed with the experience.
The food and ambiance was great. Customer service was impeccable. It's a great spot for a first date. Would go there again for any occasion.
It was amazing and the food was great
Overall its a good place. Food is very very delicious. Good place to have a nice little fancy dinner. Will come again.
The drinks were great but pricy. The meat cooked well and tasty. Great for a date or special occasion. It was a bit chilly though.
Great food and happy hour
Came here for NYE again this year. Great food and relaxed, fun atmosphere.
I was drastically disappointed we did reservations at Christmas Day for Las Tablas. We are colombia family so we set reservations 11:00 they said they wouldn’t be open until 12pm . What made me mad is that they didn’t even have kindness of calling saying they won’t be open on time or email nothing! We got there they told us we are closed I said what how so we made rsvp..? They said we won’t be open until 12pm I said could u at least received us and try to prep within 15-20 min they said no sorry without a gift card for our lost time . . Just a I’m sorry! At least I would expect a gift or promotional coupon for thier unorganized embarrassing incident.. or a 10% off or anything to make us feel that they care about our time! As Colombians you wonder why progress is so slow to come?! It’s this attitude of lack of drive fire in thier belly’s to fix and better themselves why Colombia as Country will not be great. Sad as I have family there..!
It's a bit loud while the band is playing, so it's hard to have a conversation.
Son in from out of State
Came here to celebrate my partner’s birthday. We’ve been a couple of times before and always enjoyed it. We ordered drinks, ceviche of the day (shrimp), and Picada Mar y Tierra. The ceviche was good but very different from any we’ve had before as it had a viscous, tomato-y sauce. The Picada Mar y Tierra is a dinner for two and extremely good. The quantity of food is probably more appropriate for four people honestly, but it is a great value for everything that comes with it. Service was terrific. My only criticism is that the restaurant is quite loud - everything echos. We will definitely be back.
Food was amazingly delicious. May be the best skirt steak I've ever tasted.
Decent food slow services
The food was so delicious, perfectly cooked, the meat was so juicy it is worth driving or walking to the restaurant! Thanks for the chef! Everytime outstanding food quality!
The bartenders do not know how to make drinks . My martini was half empty and not a martini just juice.
Great food, friendly service.
My girlfriend and I went there for dinner to celebrate her birthday(6/21/17). I appreciated that they put us (a couple), in a quiet corner.
The food was superb and the portions were more than generous! My ribeye was execellent, and her skirt steak may have been even better.
The wait staff were perfectly placed on that fine line between being too pushy, and ignoring us. They were there when needed, but did not interject too much.
All told, this was a wonderful dining experience. I would certainly return and recommend Las Tablas to any and all friends.
Thanks for the great dinner!
Overall I had a great experience. Food was delicious and the service was fantastic. Will definitely consider returning if back in the area.
Maybe it was a bad night, but I would not go back. The service was slow, food just ok, the drinks had no alcohol in them.
Sunday early afternoon service was poor only 1 waiter. After 4:00 there was much more staff to handle crowd. Next time I will go after 4:00
Reserved a table for my mother and my aunt, the staff was super helpful helping and both ladies loved the food and enjoyed the ambience. Will visit when I am in Chicago.
I go to this restaurant often but for some reason the food on this day was not as good. The food was bland and dry. The service was alright. It was just OK.
Slow service and food was very salty. Ordered quite a bit and can't recommend a thing.
This is one of my favorite restaurants the food is amazing . This time however the waiter played us and we ended up paying. $50 for a margarita pitcher . He did not inform us that we would have to pay $35 plus an additional $15 even though I have been there multiple times and never had that happen .
When walking into a restaurant and you see half the tables are unbussed, one server on the floor just spells disaster. I gave it a try anyway. Well waited five minutes to be greeted at the door with "oh seat yourself anywhere" ok. Then waited fifteen minutes for waiter to even greet our table another ten to bring water and then another ten to drop off a paddle with three sauces and no bread or chips or whatever we were supposed to get. No sign of a manger in sight, only had an hour for lunch, but 45 minutes were wasted waiting on service. Well we didn't have lunch even though it is clearly notated fast lunch service. Not so great. Would have loved to have actually eaten there. Will give the Lincoln location a try to repair the damage but will never go to the Irving park location again. Just horribly bad service and no presence of a manger or owner caring that the server was slammed and drowning.
Food was amazing! We will be back!
We were one of the last reservations. By the time we received our food, the employees were starting to set tables for tomorrow (which included slamming dishes onto the tables all around us). There was also a group of employees sitting at a table in the corner, laughing and being loud. Seemed like they were making the noise on purpose. The music was also completely turned off before we even received our meals. Do not take 10pm reservations, if you do not want to have patrons til at least 11.
The food was amazing and our server was friendly. However, the place was almost empty but you would have thought that it was packed by how slow the service delivered. I went to the restroom and saw there was a private party in the back. If that is why everything was slow, they should rethink their scheduling. We will eventually come back and try again, hopefully the service will be better.
Awesome food, great ambiance & amazing live band!!
Went to Las Tablas for Restaurant Week and it didn't disappoint. We ordered quacamole and chips and then had the fixed price lunch which included empanadas, skirt steak, and flan. The quacamole was spicy and delicious as were the empanadas. I had the chicken and cheese empanadas and both were good. The skirt steak was great sauce and the potatoes were crispy. There was fried yucca and a plantain but I left that since I'm not a fan of either. Coconut flan finished the meal. The flan was tasty and the coconut subtle.
