Las Canarias - Omni La Mansion Ratings and Reviews
The filet minion is amazing I ordered it medium rare and my wife ordered it medium and both were fantastic. It was so good my wife wanted to go back for breakfast and she was just as excited about the quality and presentation. It was a home run for her birthday.
Although the wait person was slightly off rhythm with us, she was attentive. The meal was incredibly solid. The butternut squash soup was sweet and fresh punctuated by toasted pecans which gave it lovely texture and added to the flavor. The pasta dish was cooked appropriately with a spicy Italian sausage and tangy, mildly sweet marinara, very nice. The meal was closed with a tasty chocolate cake covered in a thick layer of chocolate ganache seated in a creamy custard garnished with fresh berries. Lovely meal provided in an equally lovely setting. Highly recommend.
Our 1st, but not last, brunch here was a delight! My sisters, D, 90 & E, 86 & I, 74 were at a hotel less than a block away, so we walked. D has very limited mobility, so I pushed her in a wheelchair. Upon arrival, there was no ramp at the 1st hotel entrance we came to. I went inside & a woman (in management) came outside to point the way to the ramp (in the motor lobby), but ended up guiding us all the way to the restaurant. It was a really convoluted journey to get there that involved two elevators, a far trek, & left us wondering how to get back. Steps would have gotten us there faster, but alas, not possible! Having read that dining is on 3 levels, access by steps only, I had requested accessible seating. They accommodated us w/seating on the brunch buffet level. The staff was more than helpful in every way. D is a life-long picky eater, and E & I eat low carb/high fat, grain free & sugar free. We found many delicious food items that met our requirements. We had them remove the champagne & mimosa glasses, as we don't drink alcohol, but told our server to keep the coffee coming! We also splurged & had a glass of high carb orange juice! E & I filled plates for D, & she really enjoyed the meal. Ambiance was comfortable & quiet. Guitar playing was unobtrusive. Food choices were many, varied, delicious, & well-presented. We splurged & had Bananas Foster for dessert-EXCELLENT! We tried some other desserts, but they lacked flavor & freshness(our only critical comment). Our server, Efrain, was wonderful. Coffee cups were kept filled and used plates were removed. Upon request, he brought E & me a piece of gluten free toast. At the end of the meal we asked Efrain to point the way to get back to the motor lobby. He did better than that; he removed his waiter's apron & pushed D's wheelchair all the way back with no elevators and a much shorter route than coming in! He knows his way around! All of his service was outstanding! We highly recommend this Sunday brunch to all.
We’ve been here 3 times and service has always been top notch. Atmosphere and location are great. We’ve always gotten the buffet in the past and have enjoyed the large selection it offers overall (if not each item). Unfortunately, I ventured out and got the creme brûlée French toast off the menu this last time and it was impossibly dense and, while the taste was very good, I just couldn’t eat it.
We had an excellent dinner. We ate outside overlooking the River walk. Our waiter was fantastic. The food was exceptional and prepared just the way we wanted. And dessert and coffee was the perfect way to finish up before our carriage ride. We look forward to our next visit.
My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary. We are 20 yet we got some stares from the hostess and other wait staff, didn’t feel like they didn’t believe we had reservations. Staff should know that even young couples can come to this restaurant if they can afford it. That was the only downside of the experience, other than that our waiter was very nice and always asked if we needed anything. Loved the food!
We went for the Christmas Day Brunch and we not disappointed. Pretty much everything offered was delicious and well-prepared. The chefs at the stations (carving, pasta/omlette, bananas Foster) were top-notch. Our server was attentive but unobtrusive. His advice was solid and useful. Our champagne flutes never ran dry. All in all, this was a wonderful meal and great experience that we would definitely try again!
We enjoyed our Christmas dinner at Las Canarias. All the wait staff were fabulous and we were especially impressed with the young man serving the meat. He was friendly and efficient and happy to be working on Christmas Day. Our table was right above his work station so we could hear him interacting with all the guests. He wished everyone a Merry Christmas and was patient and kind to everyone. All the food was good, especially the bananas foster for dessert. I was disappointed that there was no turkey, but the ham was tender, juicy, and delicious. This was a nice place to eat Christmas dinner, but I think $204.00 for dinner for two is extremely expensive for what we ate. We probably would not do this again, but it was our Christmas gift to each other, so we enjoyed it.
We had brunch on Christmas Day. It was incredible! Our server was the best and met our every need. There was a wide variety of food available. My favorite was the boiled shrimp and huge crab claws. There was something for everyone. If I lived in San Antonio this would be on my “regular” list.
We were looking for a quiet, upscale place to celebrate an achievement and Las Canarias certainly met that requirement and had very good service. Unfortunately the food, such as two scallops for $17 seemed a bit pricey, but we knew that going in. Had the entrees been exceptional, it would have been fine, but everyone was disappointed with their meals. We skipped desert and found another place.
We have dined at Omni La Mansion many times over past 10 years and have been pleased. We made this reservation to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary two weeks in advance and advised them of our special occasion. Our table was a lovely window table. We chose a bottle of white wine which the waiter brought and poured although it had not been chilled. He then placed the bottle on a tray with dirty dishes and waited until after attempting a second pour to bring an ice bucket to chill the wine. We told him the wine was not acceptable. Rather than warm white wine we would have accepted an alternate wine. The waiter brought another bottle of the same wine and attempted to chill it in a bucket for 5 minutes, but clearly the wine was not yet chilled when he poured it. Eventually, a manager told us they had recently restocked the wines and none were chilled. We don’t understand why the wait staff would bring a bottle of white wine that was not chilled and offer it to a customer. The manager hand spun a bottle to chill it. This bottle was appropriately chilled. By this time, we were nearly done with dinner and had to drink quickly to make our upcoming show time. Although the meal was fine and the ambiance was lovely, our Anniversary celebration was marred by this incident with being unable to enjoy wine before and during our meal. The La Mansion staff also did not recognize our Special occasion at all—although we specifically annotated it when making the reservation. This has stained our opinion and future recommendations of this restaurant. We do not consider this a high quality dining experience given the lack of attention to detail and customer service. Our anticipated dining experience fell far short of the $300 we afforded your Restaraunt that evening. Sadly, although we’ve spent many happy special occasions at your Restaraunt in past, this will undoubtedly be our last.
Great location overlooking the Riverwalk...excellent service. Can't say much about the food, as we both had the Chicken Pot Pie. The pie was a little short on meat, and had very little crust. The flavor was good, but the pie was not nearly as "hearty" as I expected. The Pie entree does include potatoes, but the are not in the pie. Instead, they are mashed on on the side. The sliced bread and butter were very good.
Everything is priced individually...entree, sides, salad...which I have always found annoying. Expect to pay a minimum of $25 for an entree. The exception is sliced bread which is included with the meat.
We were visiting San Antonio and had fond memories of previous dinners at Las Canarias. Sadly, tonight’s dinner fell way short of our expectations. Not only were portions of our meal brought out cold and had to be taken back to be re-heated, but unbelievably, the assistant server who was supposed to be checking on our water glasses and iced tea, and did not, started clanging dishes and glasses and rearranging empty tables from dinner service to tomorrow’s breakfast. Candles were blown out and taken away. Flowers put away. It was like we as guests were not even sitting there. This was all happening when our main course was served. The manager came out, murmured an anemic apology and everyone kept on doing what they were doing. We could not enjoy the music or the ambience. It was like being in a cafeteria where everyone just wanted to go home. There is no point going to a restaurant for fine dining if the food is brought out cold and if the assistant wait staff is busier getting ready for the next day than serving their customers. This comes under the heading of NEVER AGAIN.
Amazing night for a birthday celebration. We had 4 adults and 1 child. We weren’t too hungry so we split 4 of the sharibles. The margaritas were amazing and the service was the best I have seen in years! Even thought to bring a spoon for my daughters macaroni before I even asked. Food was amazing and environment was perfect.
