Las Campanas Ratings and Reviews
I had a special dinner with my grandson before going to the Fox Theater. The food was very
good but we didn't have much time to eat it since it took 50 minutes to get our order. I thought an hour and a half would be plenty of time but we took most of our food in to go boxes.
Food was good. Our server, Jeff was great!!! Only disappointment was putting "Birthday" in special occasion spot on OpenTable reservation & nobody at Las Campanas acknowledged birthday. I always think it's nice if you get a song or dessert to make it special. I called the Mission Inn & spoke to Jordan & she said they don't really do anything there. I would have picked up a cupcake or something ahead time if I had known that.
I have eaten here numerous times and have never had a complaint, but this last time it wasn’t so great. I really love this place and it still remains a favorite but it took a significant amount of time- almost an hour to get our food. And I have been there when it’s busier, but it never took that long. A few of the dishes did not taste very good such as my usual chili rellenos tasted “eggy” and the red enchilada sauce seemed like cinnamon accidentally dumped in, as strange as that sounds! My moms order was wrong as well but we let it go. We were also sat in a high traffic area in which there really wasn’t room for passers by and someone even tripped and stomped on a pumpkin on the ground and smashed it!
I heard this was a good Mexican restaurant but Mexican restaurants are everywhere. Wow! Was I a happy camper! I had the camerones poblano and loved every bite. My wife also loved her meal. Prices were reasonable, service was excellent and the evening was perfect. Can't wait to go back.
Had never been before to eat but have always wanted to try the food and made a reservation via Open Table to celebrate our 38th anniversary. We will certainly return to eat even if it's not a special occasion. Service was great and the seafood enchilada dish was delicious. We loved being able to sit outside and the Mission Inn location is the best.
This restaurant is beautiful. The chips and salsa were great. While we really enjoyed our food, the service was rough. The waitress was kind but really lagged. Then when we finally got our food, one of our meals was wrong. The waitress did bend over backwards to make it right. Reality may be that she was just having a bad night. We liked the restaurant enough that we’ll definitely try it again.
The quality of food and service was excellent, but the time it took for our food to arrive was over an hour. We had tickets to the Fox, as most others dining at Las Companas. Our waitress explained that the kitchen was overwhelmed with orders due to the crowd from all those who are eating before the show at the Fox. That is why I made reservations. I thought ahead and would have expected the restaurant to do the same. VERY disappointed that I had to firmly ask our waitress to expedite our food. Reservations were for 5:30pm and we did not get our food until 7:05, after I asked. We did not have time to have a Casey's cupcake, which my niece was most looking forward to. Our order, just the two of us, was nothing special or different. Enchiladas and open faced quesadilla, both with chicken. I have tickets for the Fox in December and reservations at La Trattoria, I have moved the time to 5:00 pm, in hopes that this is not a similar experience.
Everything but the service was great. Waited about 10 minutes before we were greeted. At last a server greeted us but spent a lot of time explaining why we didn't get service right away, mentioning it throughout the dinner. We didn't care, we just wanted to move forward. Server assistant was unfriendly, they didn't pay attention to detail. The restaurant is so beautiful and it just could have had better service. Would still go back in hopes service would be better next time.
Celebrating a belated anniversary, we were excited to return to Las Campañas at the Mission Inn. All outside seating, the ambiance is one of the best this world traveler have ever sampled. Stunning, historic, majestic, the beautiful Mission Inn envelopes Las Campañas.
Sadly, the food did not mix well with the incredible architecture. The table-side prepared guacamole was the sole hit of the meal. My carne asada enchiladas was bland with the top of the "roll" hard, the bottom soggy. Smothered in tasteless cheese, the verde sauce missed my tastebuds completely and the beef was mostly salty.
My wife dined on their specialty shrimp quesadilla. Though tasty, it was difficult to eat as the arugula which covered forced the diner to graze on the greens before getting to the shrimp, cheese, sauce, and tortilla.
It is sad. We first dined here in 2005 and it began our regular date spot. A complex creative menu, many seafood selections, plenty of palette pleasing plates. Gone now, reduced to a single page of picks not much different, or even as rewarding, as many local "chains" or some far superior "mom & pop" shoppes.
Will we come back? Absolutely, but for drinks and appetizers until someone adds variety and flavor back to the entrée selections.
I came here on a weeknight. It was nice and not too busy. The wait staff was attentive. We had the tableside guacamole. I had the cheese enchiladas and my husband had the chicken enchiladas. Both were very delicious. The portions are a good size. I also had a blended mango margarita. It was very refreshing.
On a quiet weekday night, luckily not warm weather, service was good. From experience of many meals here, you need to choose the food carefully and according to your taste. I find the Cadillac Margaritas good, then the freshly made guacamole is usually reliable, though that night there were too many big chunks of avocado and not a lot of quantity. The beef fajitas were well seasoned/marinated (not too spicy), served fresh, and really enough for 2 to share (though we had separate entrees). I like spicy, and so ordered the habanero sauce on the side ($2 extra). The quesadilla abierto was also a good choice, plentiful with lots of salad (could have used more cheese). The atmosphere is really pretty at night, dining al fresco; but the food can be hit and miss. I'd recommend revamping the menu, more innovation and variety.
Even after making reservations, we had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. Last week, we had no reservation and had to wait 10 mins. What's the point in making reservations? The maitre d could tell we were annoyed and sat us down but the table was still wet. So, the evening did not start off well. However, the waiters provided excellent service.
I saw a previous post and they must have been there at the same time as us. This place is normally great, but last Saturday was disappointing. Always slow service, but food would be great. Not this time, carnitas tasted like they had mole sauce. Nobody, but nobody puts mole' sauce on carnitas. I ordered the chicken mole' and the chicken was overcooked. The chicken meat should fall off the bone with mole'. This chicken was crunchy as if they BBQ it first. We will continue to come because we love the mission Inn, but it guys...get it together!
Its always a hit or miss at The Mission Inn, service started out great then we lost our food server and had to request twice for someone to find him. They were very quiet probably due to the fight or the heat so surprised service was a challenge. Food is decent, margaritas good and ambiance is always great even when the lights went out!
