Las Campanas Ratings and Reviews
Every year, we eat at the Mission Inn for my birthday, which happens to be toward the end of the Festival of Lights. This was by far the most disappointing experience we have had and has us considering if we want to return in future years. We were seated at 2:30, ordered food by 2:45 and did not have our meals until 3:45. When we finally received our entrees, the food was a let down. The fajitas were drowning in a salty marinade that tasted more like teriyaki than Mexican and were brought out with no tortillas (we had to ask). My husband’s enchiladas were tasty though. The manager didn’t seem the least bit phased when we shared our situation. Overall, it was a hugely frustrating experience, much different than the prior year.
I took my family to Las Campanas to have a nice diner before viewing the lights. Everyone was nice but we waited a very long time (45 minutes) for our APPETIZERS. I looked around because I thought they might have been busy but there were still a lot of empty tables. They didn’t have much variety of food or drinks, would be nice to have aguas frescas at a Mexican restaurant. The flautas were good but the ceviche lacked flavor. Maybe I just had higher expectations.
Despite the confusion about whether they would serve New Year's Day brunch, the lunch was very pleasant. Had the cheese quesadillas which were delicious, and calamari cooked oerfectly. The outdoor patio is beautiful, the staff from the host to the chips server very personable and efficient.
The ambiance was nice as usual but the food taste was way off from the norm. Tableside guacamole was tasteless and enchiladas had no flavor either. Wait time was longer than normal but I will attribute that to the fact we went during the festival of lights.
We went to celebrate the switch on ceremony and my birthday. We were one of the first tables that had 6 o’clock reservations. As soon as we were seated we were asked for our drink order. It took awhile for our drinks to arrive. We found it strange since the restaurant had just opened. Two of my guests had ordered margaritas and when they received it the size of them weren’t the ones they wanted. We pointed to a table near by that had the size my guests wanted. The waitress said with an attitude well you didn’t tell me. In which, my guests didn’t but they weren’t asked nor were we told of them or of any specials etc; We let it go and continued with our meal. It was taking awhile for our meals but we figured we make the best of it. Two of the guests in our party ordered fajitas and fajitas are known to come sizzling to your table. Unfortunately, they did not at all. My meal was not brought out and two of the kids meals were incorrect. We let the person know who brought our food about the missing food items and the kids meals. He was very apologetic and said he will fix it. After about 10 mins the kids meals arrived. Our waitress was no where to be found nor did she come check to see if we got our order right from the beginning. After 15 min she came and I had told her I still was missing my meal. After 20 minutes or so I get my meal. At this point, everyone in my party were almost done with their food. The waitress wasn’t apologetic once again. I understand things can happen but at least acknowledge a mistake. I pretty much boxed up my food when I got it. I wasn’t really hungry anymore plus everyone had ate already. We ordered dessert and towards the end of the night we received our bill. Once again no apologies that the kids meals were incorrect and they had to wait another 10-15 minutes. Also, not receiving my meal. I was really disappointed with the service. We have ate at Las Campanas after the switch on ceremony for the past 5yrs and never experienced this.
Our server was not notified that we were seated in her section so we waited 30 minutes before she took our drink order. After that she was very attentive.
The restaurants computer has a glitch if you split the check. They show the entire tax on both checks therefore leading some folks who use the tax amount to calculate the tip to leave more than they thought. The manager knew about this and has asked for it to be fixed for awhile now.
BE Aware of your bills!
I had a special dinner with my grandson before going to the Fox Theater. The food was very
good but we didn't have much time to eat it since it took 50 minutes to get our order. I thought an hour and a half would be plenty of time but we took most of our food in to go boxes.
Food was good. Our server, Jeff was great!!! Only disappointment was putting "Birthday" in special occasion spot on OpenTable reservation & nobody at Las Campanas acknowledged birthday. I always think it's nice if you get a song or dessert to make it special. I called the Mission Inn & spoke to Jordan & she said they don't really do anything there. I would have picked up a cupcake or something ahead time if I had known that.
I have eaten here numerous times and have never had a complaint, but this last time it wasn’t so great. I really love this place and it still remains a favorite but it took a significant amount of time- almost an hour to get our food. And I have been there when it’s busier, but it never took that long. A few of the dishes did not taste very good such as my usual chili rellenos tasted “eggy” and the red enchilada sauce seemed like cinnamon accidentally dumped in, as strange as that sounds! My moms order was wrong as well but we let it go. We were also sat in a high traffic area in which there really wasn’t room for passers by and someone even tripped and stomped on a pumpkin on the ground and smashed it!
