Las Brisas Ratings and Reviews
The food was very good and service exceptional. Price was a bit high. Brunch cost $52 per person it was a four course service with wonderful fruit to start and Mexican pastries. Bottomless Champagne is included as well as coffee, tea or soda. Next you have your choice of soup or salad. We chose the chicken verde posole and we all found it to be delicious! Then came the main course. There were about 12 delicious selections to choose from. I had the special (a 12oz bone-in New York steak with 2 eggs and roasted potatoes. Lastly we all got a slice of Mexican layered cake with chocolate drizzle. Yum! Valet Parking is available around the back of the building. Wish this were posted or directed out front. We didn't find out until we'd parked way up the hill and walked from there. Beautiful view from most any seat in the restaurant.
Overall OK, but a place with such high prices needs to do everything right. I was particularly annoyed by the very intense level of noise coming from a table nearby. I also did not like when our food was taken, in two occasions, to another table (we were re-seated from that table) and stayed there for few minutes before it came to us. I did not like the idea of other people breathing and talking over my food. The food itself was different and OK. It was pitch black outside by 6:00 pm and so there was no view. Normally, the view is great. I do not see why we would be returning.
Was over our expectations, they change the decoration and update the menu! I could stop to eat, their guacamole is awesome, I’m Mexican and was even better than I ever tried in my own country, the food it was so delicious that if we could we would order everything, the attention of the personal of service make you feel like a superstar
Waiter (forgot his name) was excellent. Very attentive, knowledgeable, good sense of humor.
The sea bass was somewhat overcooked. Not as moist as it should have been and the dryness took away some of the lightness and flavor. Should not be this way in any good restaurant especially one that primarily serves seafood.
Restaurant was quite empty on the evening of January 1.
Wonderful option for New Year's Day. The brunch buffet was great, the prime rib one of the best I've had, the oysters very fresh. The view at a table by the window was very nice on a sunny morning. The waiter, Martin, in one word: amazing! All in all, thank you Las Brisas, you made the first day of 2018 a memorable one.
Venerable restaurant under new ownership is not an improvement. Its location is unparalleled but its menu is only “one note,” the ambience (established by beat up looking, bare, fake driftwood laminated tables, and the cacophony of crashing dirty dishes, restaurant garbage cans, and slaming of a rear exit door—by patrons and service staff alike) is unappealing and the lighting is the wrong side of harsh.
The service, however, was impecable. All the staff were friendly to a fault.
Ww will go back in part due to the memories, the location and the staff. It wont be because of the food or the ambience...and sadly it won’t be in my recommendation set.
Very much improved since my last visit. The food, the service all much better. It used to be the place where you paid for the view, but the management team has made some great strides in their restructuring of the restaurant and bar. The restaurant now reflects the wonderful view in a much better way. Thank you.
We ate inside. They sat our party of six in a private alcove that was fantastic. The lunch choices were inventive and better than average. Cocktails and wine by the glass were really good. Service was outstanding. One interesting thing we noticed is that they seem to be moving away from Mexican food toward a more general California menu. Not complaining- just an observation.
The view is what we come here for. The new menu is different than most places, but everyone was able to find something they enjoyed. Our server was a bit odd, aloof at times and way too friendly/close at others. We had an issue with one dish and he mentioned to the entire table how there was hair in the dish, which made the rest of the table question our meals. The manager came by but didn't offer anything other than an apology. I'd recommend for the view and drinks.
Went for Christmas day dinner. The meal was prix-fix . It was one of the worst meals we have had. Poor presentation, and for an expensive meal like this, the dessert was cookies and milk and chocolate bars. The waiter was very nice. Would probably never go there again.
Service and atmosphere where outstanding... weird thing was that pre fixe dinner for xmas, which included multiple entree choices , One of which was duck and one of which was roast beef . They said they had no duck, and what they served me for roast beef was a New York steak. Did Christmas dinner just sneak up on them?
Christmas dinner with limited menu all at about $85-90.00. Food was marginal to bad. Roast beef was actually tough steak. Yorkshire pudding resembled a soft Tostito, though not quite so tasty. No duck, probably just as well. Appetizer was a cheese plate, with dry, hard cheddar and tasteless blue cheese. A dollop of some runny fruit object—was it a cherry? Soup okay; Spanish cod actually tasty— but not worth the price. Dessert was “milk and cookies”, read two fingers of egg nog and two cookies.
Waiter did a good job given the busy restaurant. Pity the kitchen staff wasn't as ambitious. The ONLY good thing about this restaurant is it’s view. So, next time you are in Laguna Beach, go to Heisler Park, look at the view, then walk quickly down the hill and eat at a little place called Cest la Vie. Or drive a mile south to the Selanne Steak Tavern.
The Christmas Special Menu online showed roast duck, when we arrived mid afternoon we were informed that duck was not on the menu. Disappointing since both my wife and myself chose Las Brisas for Christmas because of duck on the menu. I and my son-in-law chose the venison ordered medium-rare they were both overcooked. My wife's black cod was cooked satisfactorily. The portions were very small and the chestnut soup lacked flavor. Service was slow even though there were several open tables. The price of $80 + $5 surcharge for venison & black cod was rather steep for the quality received.
It was Christmas Day. The lines were outrageous. The set up was such that the tables were so close, it became all one long line. The food was just nice. Not awesome. The service was spotty. The cocktail was good. Overall, really disappointing. Maybe if wasn’t Christmas Day and the lines were shorter, service would have been better I’d be happier; But last Mon we were not happy we choose Las Brisas. Also, there was no dessert. Odd. They kept running out of food too. I do recommend Hotel Laguna brunch. They are crem de la crem! Top notch!
