Larsen's Steakhouse Ratings and Reviews
I'm giving Larsen's the benefit of the doubt here that our experience is not the norm.
The oysters I ordered were of decent quality but whoever is shucking them left lots of shell pieces inside and it really ruined the enjoyment of eating them, 5 of the 6 oysters I had to remove large pieces of shell before swallowing... oysters should be clean, fresh and slide very easily... or else why eat them raw, right? We let the waiter and the manager know and they were sincerely concerned about it.
Our cocktails were a mess, we ordered a Tequila Sunrise and Gin/Tonic they were both so strong you couldn't even taste the mixers. Sent my T&T back because the tonic was completely flat. The mgr was quick to replace it but even the next was so strong I couldn't finish it and I can drink 3 T&T's with dinner easily. The 2nd Tequila Sunrise was made with Grapefruit juice instead of OJ and I don't think it even had the signature grenadine float that makes the darn drink(!) so that was removed from our bill --without question.
The steaks (14oz bone-in Fillet & 8oz Fillet were both quite good but jeez chef, learn how to watch your meat temps... I know steaks and the 14oz I ordered 'medium' but came Medium rare to rare -- I was hungry so I ate it. The 8oz was ordered Medium was nicely done.
The big surprise entree ordered was for my wife -- Purple Cauliflower Steak... delicious! Brussel Sprouts were very good.
Ambiance is very nice with the piano bar but it competes with the bar noise so I wouldn't consider this the place for a romantic dinner
The service was very good and both our waiter (Joe- very professional, he even pulled out a table crumber to clean our tablecloth ... that was a nice old-school surprise and the GM (also Joe I believe) were sincerely concerned that we should come back but his reply about the heavy-handed drinks was surprising to me, he
I might return, but if I do I just might try their Woodland Hills location before going back to Encino.
I booked this place on accident and I got burned bad for it. I had meant to book it for the Topanga location which I have been to and have had a great experience-Encino, not so much.
For Valentine's some genius decided to layout some tea tables . I'm guessing this was done for purposes of revenue .
My waiter seemed like he would have been great at serving us but I told him, I couldn't sit at That table. Think about it. Yoiur steaks wouldn't fit on it with drinks , appetizers etc. So we asked if we could sit at the bar. This wasn't an issue so much but the bar tender is busy and this place had 3 hosts and a silvertop supervising them for absolutely no reason. This guy walks around doing absolutely nothing but crossing his arms and pretending to look concerned or upset. Meanwhile, I later find out the GM is running food which i guess is cool but don't you think with 3 people hosting not sitting anyone plus one geriatric supervising them you'd need a reorganization of the staff. In addition they missed parts of the order. Those "parts" were comped since they forgot but I assumed it would have been comped anyway because the kitchen rushed the order and forgot to add seasoning to it.
The only great thing here which is what I thought was great at the Topanga location was the steak and the lobster mash which was perfect. The piano player was also excellent but the service and the staff have left much to be desired.
I probably won't make the same mistake going to this location do my because of my experience here
Our meal was delicious and the service by Kent was exceptional. The Manager, Harry was wonderful as well. 2 steaks were not cooked to our liking - Harry immediately took them to the kitchen (excellent customer service) and when they came back to us they were PERFECT!!! The prices prohibit us from dining there regularly; however it was definitely worth it for a special occasion.
I like this restaurant...made the reservation and know they have live piano. This is a business meal and told them so...they said it would be quiet because there would not be many people in during the evening and that there would not be live music....wrong - wrong - wrong. Piano is so loud on top of the piped in music...cannot hear what people are saying at the table right beside you. I hate that...I would rather our voices be the ambient noise. Great food and service...its a shame.
Larsen's is a high-end, chain steakhouse. We gave it a try because I had bought a couple of their $50 gift cards at Costco. All in all it was a very good experience. As you would expect with a steakhouse the room is highlighted with dark wood, comfortable booths and a lively bar. What is a pleasant change from a lot of other steakhouses is that instead of a windowless cave, Larsen's has large windows in the dining room giving it a lighter, airier feeling. Our server, Micki, was delightful, helpful and attentive. We started with cocktails and my martini was enormous and delicious and my wife, who is not much of a cocktail person, was quite pleased with her tequila cocktail.
We split an appetizer of 3 bacon wrapped shrimp. They were huge and quite good. We also split an heirloom tomato salad. It was also huge and delicious. Are you sensing a theme? For our entree, Micki suggest the chateaubriand special which we also shared. It was cooked perfectly. We also ordered a side of creamed spinach. We each wanted a glass of red to go with the steak and the manager was kind enough to bring us tastings of 2 different red blends. The one we chose was an excellent match with our steak.
The portions are large. We brought home half the salad, half the steak and some of the spinach which gave us dinner for the next night.
If I had one hesitation I would say it is the cost. It is expensive. Our bill totaled $300. However, this was a special night, it was delicious and we got dinner for 2 nights out of it so I was quite satisfied.
We loved everything about the restaurant, our only complete is the waitress did not tell us the special dish was priced at $120.00, it was for the Chateaubriand which is normally for two people so when I ordered it for me I thought it would be half the price. I'm assuming she did to get a bigger tip. When we called the next day to confirm the price the hostess didn't even know the restaurant had specials or what Chateaubriand was.
Wonderful food and service.
My friend left her glasses and the reservation was under my name.
Your staff called me the same eve to let me know to pick them up for her under my name.
Excellent attn to detail by our waiter who was just great.
We will see you again!
Visiting from Buffalo and had a free night and made reservations here. Bartender made great drinks and was friendly. My wife and I split a ny strip which came out on separate plates and done perfectly. Garlic mashed were very good the only negative was vegetable choices which did not appeal to us. By the way the bread is super!!
I selected Larsen's for my wife's birthday. Great choice. Excellent steaks, great Ceasar salad, great sides of baked potato, sauteed mushrooms and broccoli. We brought our own wine as we take a trip at least once a year to No. Cal. wine counrty and buy from our favorite vineyards and like to drink what we buy. The service was very good and the waitress well informed about the menu. Her recommendations were right on target. The one and only negative was that they seated us initially at a table near a door that opened onto a patio dining area and each time the door opened, we were frozen with the blast of cold air. We asked to be moved and there was no problem--we were moved without delay to a better table. Overall, a great dining experience, as good as any steakhouse we have been to including The Palm in Manhattan which was top notch. Highly recommended.
The food was amazing- the steak was really delicious as were all the sides. The service was top-notch our server was polite and very knowledgeable. The menu is quite pricey but worth it if you want to splurge. Delicious food great atmosphere but definitely a special occasion destination as it’s very expensive. Expense account or special occasion type restaurant
Always a good experience at Larsens. This was a couple evenings before Thanksgiving, so it was especially quiet, but we still were entertained by the staff.
Have been coming here since they opened and the quality of everything has been maintained and even gotten better over time.
Wish it was a little more reasonable price wise, but you absolutely get what you pay for here. Worth every penny, I’d just like to go more often. LOL
Food is very good as usual and nice ambiance. Two areas of correction:
1. Pricing is steep not just for dinner as many steak houses are, but also for lunch which is not often the case. Davenports, with former Larsen's staff is new restaurant across the street that has more selections and much better pricing. REDUCE YOUR PRICING AT LEAST FOR LUNCH AND OFFER SOME SPECIAL OPTIONS !!! If you can do it in your Simi location you can do it in Encino.
2. Pay for the damned parking. While you take care of a portion of it, most business lunches take longer and even though it is only a few bucks, it is cheap to not cover it in a high end restaurant.
There was something very off about the food. First of all, the main courses arrived and we had to ask about the sides. One side showed up and then we asked about the other. Someone came by and said they were remaking it because it did not come out right. He said that it would be out soon and it would be on him, however it was never taken off the bill. It showed up about half way through our meal. One of us ordered the rack of lamb, it was so disappointing that he only ate a few pieces. He said for $65 he really expected it to be great, it was not. For a simple meal for 3 people the bill was over $300 (with only one bar drink). The money was not the issue, it was the food and the total experience. We have been to Larsen's several times before, not sure we will be returning.
Steak and accompanied sides were absolutely 5 Star...waiter was friendly, extremely knowledgeable in regards to the menu, professional and helpful, along with assisting self. The ambience of the restaurant is quite chic but a little dark - but great if you are having a romantic dinner!! Restaurant is not inexpensive, but the food is perfect and the service great, so worth the "extra" expense.
