Larsen's Grill - Oxnard
Need to book at 9:30 AM?Other great restaurants with availability.
Food took a long time for entrees. We have not had this issue before
As always we received excellent service from the wait staff and the food was again very good.
This is the second time I’ve dined here with my husband and both times our experience has been exceptional!
It was good but not great. Pricy so should have been better than what it was. Some things were great like the filet mingion sashimi. Delicious. The onion soup was wonderful, but not hot enough. Cheese on top was barely melted. Caesar salad was tasty but croutons were mushy and tough. We had the beef dip and steak sandwiches. Both were wonderful, tender meat but mayonnaise was slathered over the buns. We had to scrape it off. The horseradish sauce that came with one of the sandwiches tasted more like plain sour cream.
We did not send anything back, we just wanted to relax and enjoy the afternoon. We had a nice lunch, good wait staff, handsome interior but could have been much better if the food was better and for the price, it should have been.
I would totally recommend Larsen’s Grill to anyone but ESPECIALLY if you are celebrating something. They so graciously set my table up very romantically for my Anniversary and typed up a special little note I had left in the comment section. It was PERFECT!! Thank you Larsen’s Grill!!! You’re the best!
Nathan was a fantastic bartender, so friendly, and perfect Blood Orange Margarita. Kate was our server, and she was so attentive and funny! Great Valentine dinner!
Best restaurant in Oxnard in my opinion. We have been here several times and have never had a bad experience or meal. The staff is great.
Valentine’s Day was going great for us!! We had 9:30 reservations and upon arrival we were told that it would be a 30 minute additional wait. So we headed to the bar area but prior to going we made sure that the hostess had our contact information. She was quick to tell my fiancé YES!! Perfect!! We sat and had to get up and go to the bar to get our drinks. We met Conner...this guys is AMAZING and was who made our night. He went and asked if our table was ready and they had skipped us!!! I received NO text or call to tell us our table was ready! Conner made sure we were seated! We were then put in what we called the OVERFLOW to have dinner. Our server was good , the food was good too. We had previously made reservations for New Years Eve and were unable to make it due to my fiancé being ill. I was charged $25 per person for canceling. Should i be given a $25 credit for my trouble?? What was the point of my reservation?? Still had to wait and was forgotten had it not been for Conner. We should have just stayed at the bar...might have had a better time with our AWESOME bartender!!
Long wait for Vday, expected but should have prepared better for days like these. Besides that, everything was great!
This is a very nice restaurant. However, when I went with my partner on Valentine's Day with a reservation, they sat us 20 minutes after our scheduled reservation. We showed up a few minutes early, but they sat us late and there were no napkins or utensils on the table. The food was great, but they did not seem like they were prepared for the holiday.
It was so packed with extra tables and there was not enough staff to handle the amount of buainess
Chris was awesome but our server was the worst I ever had .. very neglected by her filet mignon was burned over cooked
Our food came cold, ever entree price was increased by $12 from their every day price, and the tables were so close together you felt like you were eating with the people next to you.
Not a very good Valentines experience.
Because it was valentines day they crammed in more tables and raised their prices to much. Way to expensive for what you got
We visited for Valentine’s Day dinner. It quickly became apparent that the server staff was overwhelmed. It took 20 minutes to get a drink while waiting for our table. Our table was ready right at the reserved time. Once seated the server was less than attentive. Staff was moving tables around and I ended up sitting very close to another group. The food was excellent, but the experience overall was a disappointment.
Valentine's day first visit ever, and I wasn't very impressed. My fiance and I were seated all the way in back at probably the worst table...by the huge wall of wine. Neither of us drink. The prices on the menu we're jaw-dropping overpriced. I've eaten at several steak houses in my life and this was crazy. My 16 oz. Prime rib was mostly fat and grissle, and for $59.00 I was pretty upset. I normally go to Black Angus, and for a dinner for 2, we leave full and pay less than $100.00 with tip. The place was so noisy, and we had no internet connection at all, and the waitress didn't know the guest WiFi password. We had a gift card, but didn't use it. Maybe I'll go back for lunch, and use it then. But for date night, we will never go back.
Food was overcooked and was just OK. Service was pretty good, but nothing special. Menu options seem to have decreased as more restaurant options have opened nearby. Not as good as it used to be.
We went the night before Valentin’s Day for an early celebration. Reservation was for 6:30 pm and we had requested a booth. After a 20 minute wait the waitress took us to a table at the back of the restaurant, when I asked about a booth (we had past 3 vacant booths on our way to the back of the restaurant) we were told that would be another 10 minute wait. They should have asked us if we wanted to wait for a booth or take a table before they just walked us to the back. They no longer serve bread with meal only as an appetizer. We were seated at about 6:50 and our salad did not arrive until 7:30 and our meal wasn’t served until after 8:00 pm. I had the filet minion and my husband had the prime rib sandwich. Our meat and sandwich were prepared perfect; however, my husband’s sweet potato waffle fries were on the cold side and my baked potato seemed to have set awhile. Ambience was nice. My 3 star rating was more on the service than the actual food. It was a busy night so maybe my expectations were too high.
My friend and I enjoyed the Chateau Briand. The meat was cooked to perfection. Brussel sprouts delicious and so was the bottle of wine which came with the meal.
However, my husband's rib eye, although done to medium rare as requested, wasn't the best rib eye steak he has ever had. He felt he couldn't send it back as it was cooked how he asked for it, the flavor wasn't what he is used to eating at Larsen's. The Butter Cake was the best. Service impeccable.
I went for my birthday. I was really looking forward to having my filet Mignon. But it wasn’t as tender as last time. It still tasted good. Must have just gotten a bad piece. I still had a great time. Thanks.
Not sure what’s going on but the service was very much under par for what we would expect for the caliber of restaurant. Reservations at 6:00 PM and we didn’t get out of the restaurant until nearly 2 hours later.
Perfect place to celebrate a special occasion! In this case we were out celebrating my birthday and did one of the “date night” meals for two which comes with a wine pairing. The steak was made perfectly to a rare+ and the service was fantastic. Highly recommend!
My husband and I go for dinner once or twice a month. The restaurant has a very nice ambiance; the service, from the hostess to the servers, is always excellent. The steaks are perfectly cooked, love the roasted garlic that comes on the side and the other sides that come with the entrees are really good!
The meal was amazing! Started in the bar and the bartender was so great made awesome Manhattan and Old Fashion! Our server was great as well! The only complaint I have is that when I checked in at the front desk 5 minutes before my reservation the hostess told me I couldn’t sit till my reservation time when the whole restaurant was empty which is ok but when it came time for my reservation she never came she was on her phone. So the bartender went and got her because he noticed it was odd we hadn’t been seated yet. Also I had made a note on the reservation it was my husband birthday and my husband was gluten free and I let her know again in person to make sure the server knew so if they brought out a dessert we were able to have it and when they did it was not gluten free we appreciated the gesture but it went to waste which what I was trying to avoid. All in all the meal was fantastic we had a great time.
I've been to Larsen's many times. This latest visit was a business dinner for 5 people. It was not a remarkable meal and the price ran to about $330 including tip. It seems to me the prices have risen considerably over the past year or two?
It was really not worth that price and I will probably not be going there again.
It was my first time dinning at Larsen's. It was also my birthday. The food did not disappoint! They also gave me a free birthday dessert. I will be going back as well as recommend them to my friends and family. Thanks for the great experience.
The service and food quality are now excellent since the new manager Chris took over!
Had a great time celebrating my husband’s birthday from the time we walked in until the time we left. Our server Pico was great.
Food was good and service was good. Did have to look for our waiter several times. Actually gave instructions to alternate waiters on 2 different occasions. Overall had a good experience and will return.
First of all my glass had lipstick on it and then my husband knife had a chunk of food on it and if I’m paying more than $30 a plate I think that the experience should be spotless and our server came only once to fill up our tap water
Our server Camile was excellent and very attentive to our table. Food was good not great for the price. The bar service prior to us being seated was bad. I stood at the bar for at least 10 minutes before I was even acknowledged. This is the first time at Larsen's that the bar service was bad and I know they were crowded but there were 4-5 people working behind the bar.
Had 8:30pm reservation, arrived at 7:00 for cocktails, checked in, went to bar area. Cocktail server brought our drinks separately, first a Bushmills on the rocks, and a lemon basil martini. By the time the martini was served, the ice in the bushmills was melted. We were told out table was ready, at 9:15. Had to go to bar to settle the bill due to server abandoning us, took a little time to get service to settle, they ended up giving our table away! We relayed our displeasure, had to wait for another table to open up. Hostess could care less. Once seated, it all turned around. Our server was awesome and the food was good. Value would have been better if the beginning service e.g. bar service, hostess service, honoring our 8:30 reservation was better. Overall, not that good of a place, save a lot of money and get the same treatment at Chilis.
I’ve been to many steakhouses across the country but never a Larsons. So we decided to try it we got the fillet it was overcooked it didn’t have much flavor and the sauce was peppercorn and it was not what you would usually expect it was a thick glaze. So for the price I would recommend other steak houses although inside it’s very nicely decorated and it has a nice bar and the service was good.
Food was so so. Service was excellent!
They were very busy because we went on NYE but our servers tried their best to keep us happy. The food was incredible but Larsen’s is pricey. Nice for a special occasion but not an everyday value. Overall happy with my reservation.
Waiter was great, food was perfect - company was awesome!
The service was top notch!! My boys and I definitely ended our year the right way, thank you :-)
Very Good Steak with great service. We will eat here again.
We had previously been to Larsen's Steakhouse in Valencia. That was a darker, more personal, private restaurant with high-back booths and dim light. Perfect for a romantic date. And we had been given a gift card for $50.
Larsen's Grill was similar in menu, with the added seafood twist since it is in Oxnard near the Pacific Ocean. It was much more open. With lower backed booths, from nearly anywhere in the restaurant you could see the well stocked back-lit bar that stood 12 or 15 feet tall as well as two large screen televisions showing the "game of the day". When we went it was the Seattle Seahawks vs. the San Francisco 49rs. The music was playing contemporary rock just loud enough to come to mind occasionally, but not so loud I couldn't hear my wife. The lower backed booths, large number of free standing tables, the music, and the lighting all gave the restaurant a more casual feel.
The staff were top notch. When we stated we were looking for a sweeter wine, a la White Zinfandel style, she suggested one and informed us we could sample a wine if we wished before buying the glass or bottle. But we both opted to get cocktail drinks. Mine was the Signature Drink Whiskey Sour. Very good. My wife ordered a margarita and liked it so much she had two.
We split a Cesar salad for an appetizer. Then my wife had Rotisserie Chicken with Garlic, Lemon & Herbs (a full half chicken with crispy skin and a succulent taste) while I had the Hawaiian Marinated USDA Prime Tri-Tip. The meats were cooked perfectly, and the sides (asparagus for me, garlic mashed potatoes for her) were very tasty.
We finally ended our meal by splitting the Chocolate Cake. It came with Vanilla Ice Cream and Whipped Cream and was so delicious we nearly licked the plate clean.
Overall, we both came away from our experience at Larsen's Grill feeling very satisfied. Although it was the gift card that brought us, we will definitely visit again when we are in town.
