Larsen's Grill - Oxnard
Celebrated my birthday on Friday night. We were seated within 5 minutes of checking in for our reservation. The steaks are good, but not on the same level as Ruth’s Chris. It did come with one side and portions are large. Butter cake was good, but not outstanding. Received a candle on it for the occasion. If we were at Ruth’s Chris, it would have been complimentary. Bread or breadsticks would have been nice to have as we were seated.
Usually Larsens is my first choice for special occasions. There were tables tightly packed so much that it was hard to have a private conversation.
I made reservations through Open Table for my family of 4. The restaurant couldn't find my reservation then when they found it it was for the wrong amount.
They proceeded to sit us right next to the bar with two kids under the age of 15 !!
When I asked the hostess if we could be moved she went and asked someone and they said this was all they had.
Underage teens sitting right next to the bar ?!
We should've just gone to Lazy dog for 1/3 of the price. If we were going to eat Filet Mignon on bar stools!
I was embarrassed for them more than I was bothered. We didn't let this ruin our night but it was very disappointing.
Great presentation for Valentines Day. Food as usual was great.
Valentines Day decor was beautiful.
FOOD: Eh, overall the food was just ok. Lobster bisque was actually really good. The asparagus stems should have been trimmed a bit further. They were slightly tough and fibrous. The dry-aged rib eye was tasty however the couple clumps of fat were much more than the proper marbling. My wife loved her garlic mashed potatoes.
SERVICE: Overall the staff was quite attentive however while my wife was inquiring about wines our waitress stated "You may want to just buy a glass. The bottles are kind of expensive". This, in and of itself, would keep me from coming back. That audacity is absurd. She was friendly however, like I tell my kids, "words matter"!
AMBIANCE: I get it. The establishment is in business to make money. The amount of tables that were crowded into that space were overwhelming. A little hyper-sensitivity and preparation on my part but if there had been any type of emergency the egress from that overly crowded space could have been catastrophic! Zero intimacy due the the close proximity of other patrons.
We had very high hopes after hearing many good reviews from friends and it all really fell short.
Had a great evening. Food is good. I believe a little overpriced. Service good
This is the second time we’ve eaten here first time was during happy hour. The service was nice and the food tasty. Not to noisy and yes we had reservations which made it easier to find a table set nice this was Valentine’s Day and lunch. The restaurant closes at 2:00 pm and reopens at 5:00 pm for dinner. Happy hour tends to be more noisy, even though they had someone doing tunes on the keys ( piano). But still good service and food.
Lunch was delicious! And the ambiance was very nice!
Very attentive staff and great food!! And a yummy complimentary butter cake for our birthday celebration! Thank you :)
The restaurant was nicely decorated, and well laid out.
I feared it would be occasionally drafty as it was cold and windy that night, but it was nice.
Good job on the design!
Our waiter seemed distracted, and not very attentive.
We did *not* run him ragged with requests, *at all*, so it was a bit surprising that we were treated that way. Cocktail service was slow, at best.
Our meal arrived before the wine we had ordered, and we had to ask for the wine specifically to actually get it. If we hadn't asked, I think we never would have gotten it. After the meal, I told him I really did not like having to ask for the wine specifically. He pushed back with "you said you wanted the wine with the meal". Even at that, the meal *had arrived*, and I had to stop him as he walked *past* us, so I could remind him. He got the wine comped, but that wasn't my point, at all. The wine was good, and we drank it, so I had no issue with paying for it. The issue I had was with the service, and I was not at all pleased with the pushback when I called him on it.
All other staff were helpful and prompt.
The steak was thin and tough in spots.
The cocktail and wine were good.
No bread or anything before the meal? I know your establishment is A La Carte, but really?
This was a special occasion, my girlfriend's birthday.
The 'birthday desert' was the lowest priced item, if I recall correctly, unfortunately I can't check that as your online menu doesn't show desserts or prices...
Just felt like a weak offering.
We have dined at your competitor's establishments that are in the same price bracket.
They blew you away on service and food quality.
Overall, our impression was of a nice facility with mostly great staff, but one that's cheaping out on the waiters and the food.
We may try again for lunch, to reduce $$ exposure.
If it's not excellent, we will not return.
We will not recommend Larsen's Grill Oxnard to anyone before then, and it'll take two good meals before we even consider it.
One of the few good restaurants in Ventura County.
I can’t remember the name
Of our server but he literally went above and beyond in service. He explained everything in detail, recommended his favorites and smiled and acknowledged us every time he walked by. Extrodinary service
Spacious dining area and very clean BR. Friendly wait staff. Never received bread with meal. My friend loved his steak. Mine was so-so- several slices of tritip and ribeye. The potato was shared and the skin WAY over cooked-rock hard. The broccoli was steamed-nothing remarkable. Second time eating here and it will be my last time.
Meeting with my boss and a co-worker. Great dinner, great service, great wine no great food.
Good food and great service but it’s a little noisy
We had a perfect dinner!! Our server Alfred was very attentive, polite and very knowledgeable. Overall we had a fine dining experience! They even had a fabulous child menu, my five year old said it was the best grilled chicken ever. We are regulars at Larsen’s, each dining experience at Larsen’s oxnard keeps getting better! Thank you!!
Very disappointing! We've been there before and had a nice experience, so we were looking forward to another special night. I requested a cozy romantic table, I instead got one by the front door.
I ordered the filet mignon, which was not rare as requested, but medium, and my boyfriend order the porterhouse steak which was so tough and stringy he spent a good 10 minutes wrestling out a few bites to swallow. I got the wrong science as well. We would have sent it back and tried it again but we didn't have that kind of time. Our waiter was new so he gets an A for effort, he obviously needed help as we did not see him very often. Each drink order took a half hour to deliver, and a meal for two people took over 2 hours to complete, no dessert obviously or that would have extended things to 3 hours. Very disappointing for an over $230 meal.
Another disappointment Business lunch at Larsen’s
We were seated right away.
Drink order was taken. Appetizers ordered , meal order was delayed. After 𝐎𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 was placed food did not arrive for 35 min. Over all the staff was great. The food was good. The wait for the food was the overall problem.
This was the third time in 12 taking clients, only to find the same disappointment.
We had the filet mignon and ribeye and our guest had sea bass everything was excellent. Lobster bisque was amazing as well as the butter cake. We will return!
Went their for my girlfriends birthday. The service was amazing and the food was too. I had the Tri tip and baby back ribs. I will definitely be going there more often, and I won’t wait for it to be a special occasion.
We had dinner on New Years Eve so it was pretty noisy! Usually much quieter. Food and service were excellent as always.
My boy friend and I enjoyed our New Years dinner at 7pm. It was absolutely delicious! Our server didn't seem to be around enough, and the noise level was high!
Enjoyed everything except dishes and glasses had a film on them. You can tell they were washed but the rinsing needs to be addressed.
So much for reserving a table. Nothing was available except a 2 seater small table in back far corner near kitchen entrance so non stop people passing table all evening. Noisy corner. Ruined experience
Food was great. Service was slow. Pricey.
Met friends for a seasonal get together and enjoyed the atmosphere, great food, and service. We never felt rushed and appreciate the servers knowledge. Looking forward to next visit.
Went here to celebrate an engagement. Had excellent service & fabulous food. 2 of us split their "Dinner for 2" special. It included a bottle of wine and a dessert. I think it was a great deal for $105. Some steak houses charge that much for just one steak!
I had a wonderful birthday dinner at Larsen's. Great food great service wonderful everything!. Thank you Larsen's for making my birthday special.
Great time, good food.
We made our visit on Christmas which had a limited menu as expected. We ordered Prime Rib with a loaded baked potato and Roasted Chicken on brown rice. We also added an extra side dish, Five Cheese Macaroni, it sounded too good to pass on. Our service was amazing, the ambiance was classy, and the food was good, but nothing popped. Even the mac and cheese was just ok.
Christmas Eve Dinner. Great food, great service equaled a pleasant evening.
Hostess needs to learn to smile and be more hospitable. Well trained attentive wait staff, but a bit stuffy for the neighborhood. Not a warm overly friendly kind of a place. First course and side dishes were a good portion and delicious. Steaks were mediocre and overpriced for what we received. Had a much better steak at Lure (a fish house), a couple days prior.
Only complaint; I wish the Steaks were cooked over wood or, Charcoal. Very nice restaurant. We'll return
Great food. Had a really nice Christmas Eve dinner with friends.
This was our second visit to Larsen’s and we loved it, the service, the ambiance and the food was awesome.
We plan to go back soon.
Adequate steakhouse in Oxnard in the Collection. Nice location and nice enough room but the food could be a whole lot better. Then you pay $36 for an 8 ounce filet -- you expect better execution and char on that meat. Elementary meat cooking!
Love Larsens! Go there often.
Miss the live jazz!
My review would go from “Very good” to Excellent!
Wonderful food and atmosphere! Extensive, but pricey menu, but it really is worth it! My only complaint was the service. Our waitress had to either be nailed down or we had to ask other wait staff to find her. She was not very attentive to us at all. Other than that, and this was the first time I’ve had a service problem, the experience was great and I will return!
It was better than the first time we went 2 yrs ago. Glad they added the Cheesy Garlic bread, it was delicious. Prime rib was very fatty and had a lot of gristle. Too much fat and gristle for the price. Everything else was ok. Nice that they honored our anniversary. Waitress was nice.
