Larkfield Priory Restaurant
About
We can cater with pleasure for the variable needs of short or long-stay guests. Hence our flexible approach to 'delivery'. With a self-help operation at our cold breakfast buffet and for speed of service at lunch with our two and three course offers. At dinner a full and friendly table service for leisurely after work wind down, and for a romantic setting, simply request a conservatory table to watch the evening draw-in under the stars.
Thought we'd give it a try as we are local, the service was very good, although the restaurant was extremely quiet with only a couple of other tables occupied. The food was fine, not the best I've ever had but not the worst, we got a discount through meerkat meals so found the value fine for what we paid, but I would have been disappointed if I'd paid full price. The food was all standard pub grub, well presented and edible, but nothing exciting or different to try. There were only a couple of options for my vegetarian daughter, of which she would only consider one and I found the atmosphere very lacking, that may be because we went on a Monday night and it was quiet, but I don't know if that's the norm or not. I've tried quite a few places locally and do prefer everywhere else so doubtful I'd come again. I guess if you want to guarantee a table and like the quiet it would be fine, but it's not really my cup of tea.
We arrived, stood outside the food hall as the girl behind the bar did not bother to speak to us. I then walked into the dining room, after that all went well. Did I have to press the bell? We nearly turned and went elsewhere.
The restaurant was closed as the chef called in sick that day. I made the reservation for the afternoon at 2pm so I asked why (a) why no one called me and (b) why the restaurant has to close for one chef calling in sick. Surely a large restaurant has more than one cook on a Sunday? I was not met with a polite response and was told to go to reception. When I asked why, I was told so they can apologise. I didnt bother wasting my time walking round to the other side of the building for an apology nor will I waste my time booking here again.
