L'Ardoise Ratings and Reviews
We went to L'Ardoise for date night and it was a lovely evening. Cozy and intimate inside with great decor and a manageable noise level. The food was good, he had the bacon wrapped scallops (a special I believe) and I had the filet mignon. The waitstaff were attentive and could read the table well so there wasn't any unnecessary interruptions to our meal. Only complaint was the wait, we had a reservation for 7:30 but we weren't seated until 7:50. It's not unexpected because of how small the restaurant is and the pace of the meal. When we were seated the host was very gracious and made us feel right at home, plus we stayed for at least two hours so I can see why our table was delayed at 7:30. All and all a great ambiance and good food, maybe not worth the price for every day dining but a great change of pace and comfortable evening.
This is probably our 5th time coming here since moving to the City, and L'Ardoise NEVER disappoints. This is a great restaurant for authentic French cuisine - if you're looking for one. There's a lot in the City, but highly recommend coming here first. They pretty much set the standard in cuisine and in service. For this reservation, we went on NYE to ring in the 2018 - and had a great time! Highly recommend - huge wine list, great cocktails, and wonderful staff!!
My French husband gave it accolades. He appreciated the authentic food and flavors. This will be our go-to French bistro henceforth. Great neighborhood location. Keep in mind, it is not white tablecloth, but it would be, in his words, the kind of real bistro French people would go to for a nice meal in France—it had all the classics and everything was on point. Thank you, L’Ardoise. À bientôt!
This is my second visit to L'Ardoise; this time, i went with my partner to kick off our anniversary weekend. I wanted to take him somewhere sophisticated with memorably delicious food. L'Ardoise impressed him the way it does me--the food is exquisitely prepared and presented, and delivers on every hope of fine food you had on walking in the door. The service is flawlessly graceful, with the entire team of servers working in concert, with polish and style. The ambience is vibrant, relaxed and has the slightly crowded feel of eating in a restaurant in France.
The lamb and fish come with our hearty thumbs up!
I have been here several times, and this restaurant is always impressive. The food is a mix of creative and traditional French cuisine that is artfully prepared from quality ingredients. You can see the passion and respect for food from the arrival of the plate to the last bite.
The staff is warm and knowledgeable. Like any good French person will tell you, if you want the best experience, let them guide your culinary journey and just sit back and enjoy the experience. The same is true of the wine pairings.
My single “must have” if it is on the menu is the Bœuf Bourguignon ravioli. The blending of flavors and textures made this one of my favorite dishes of all time from any restaurant.
I strongly recommend reservations during peak hours as this charming, cozy restaurant can fill quickly and embraces the European dining attitude of taking as much time as necessary to truly enjoy your meal. I suggest you leave yourself time to do so as well, because rushing through a meal of this caliber would be an exercise in self deprivation assured to leave you with regrets.
My husband and I found this place and are THRILLED. We will be back for sure int he future. The restaurant has a really nice small neighborhood feel while also have amazing service and food. I was blown away by how delicious everything was. One Highlight I want to point out was their creme brulee: most places serve it in a wide flat dish, while at L'ardoise they serve it in a deeper, slightly narrower cup. I think this is genius as the ratio of creme to caramelized sugar is MUCH better. Both my husband (Who is from Lyon France and knows French food) and I agreed.
Overall just a decent place with decent food. Nothing felt inventive or creative, leaving much to be desired, especially at that price point. Suggest they look at their menu, change out some of the tired dishes and freshen it up a bit. Not a place I would return to anytime soon given all the fantastic places to eat in SF.
We had a 6:00 pm reservation and almost every table was already full! We were seated promptly and our server greeted us quickly and remained attentive. We loved everything about this place. Friendly folks seated on both sides of us, a nice relaxed vibe, reasonable prices. My husband had the duck confit and I had the Wagyu flat iron steak. Both were superb! We can't wait to return.
Coming here is visiting the cuisine of France. So delicious, the welcome warm, lots of nice décor touches, and friendly helpful service. The menu has so many wonderful, tasty dishes, the pates are fantastic, the duck sublime, the fois gras divine.
The wine list, bottles and glasses, has some great choices.
Such lovely times here.
L'Ardoise has kept her high standards over the last year's, you can always depend on excellent service, excellent cuisine, and a fun atmosphere.
I have been to France many times and I believe that l'Ardoise is better than many Parisian restaurants.
I highly recommend them.
L'Ardoise is one of our favorite restaurants in the city. It has a great French / neighborhood vibe and the staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. The menu has flavorful renditions of all the French classics - duck confit, steak frites, Coq a Vin, and more.
The lamb shank was delectable! And the scallops very flavorful. We go for our anniversary every year and it never, ever disappoints. The service is the best in the area, too, anticipating your needs without fussiness, but always warm, welcoming, and appreciative.
Quaint with fabulous French food. The flat iron steak with pomme frites and salad was excellent. My wife had the rack of lamb which was also fantastic. Many of the guests spoke fluent French with the staff, so it made you feel like you were in France. Can't wait to get back to San Francisco and do it over again!
L’Ardoise has been consistently excellent. I’ve just returned from three weeks in France and having dinner at L’Ardoise is just like being there, maybe better. Good food, an excellent ambiance, reasonably priced wine list, low noise levels. I have eaten here many times and I’ve always been very pleased with it, this time was no exception.
Quite an extraordinary evening...I had the rack of lamb and my husband, the sea bass. Both were perfect with just the right sauces to compliment, but not overpower the entree. Our waiter, Enaro (apologies for spelling); was a delight. Picked just the right wines for me and was most attentive and made the evening truly lovely. The place filled up by 7pm (I have tried twice to get make reservations), but remained quite enough for general conversation. I felt, for SF, the value was very fair for the high quality, authentic, delicious food & excellent service. Please note, if you think they are closed because the door seems locked, not to worry, just pull REALLY hard and voila the magic begins. Parking can be a bit dicey in Duboce Triangle. Very lovely evening and we will return soon.
