Fantastic food, expert waiter assistance, great value. Would definitely recommend.
Everything except the service was wonderful. Last time we ate there, the service was perfect and intuitive (never a conversation interrupted, always there when needed). This time, the person taking our order seemed impatient and was not helpful with, for example, wine choices. I felt like I had to hurry and make my ordering decisions and that didn't feel good at all.
This small, lovely restaurant is a neighborhood gem with many loyal customers. We made early reservations and were seated immediately. We chose a table nestled near the window. My husband and I shared the butter lettuce salad with smoked olive oil vinaigrette and marinated white anchovies. For entrees, he chose the Black Cod with Risotto and I, the Day Boat Scallops. Both were delicious. We shared Creme Brulee for desert. All dishes were wonderfully prepared and very fresh. Our waiter was attentive, yet afforded us private time to converse. What a great find very close to where we were staying on a visit to San Francisco.
We have been coming here since it opened. The welcome is always genuine, food spectacular and service friendly without being fawning. There are also interesting dinner guests so one does not mind the intimacy of the tables. It actually works!!
The best French Restaurant in San Francisco. Hands down!
Food was excellent. Service was great and the restaurant is a cozy place on the corner of a clean and cute neighborhood. I am definitely coming back to eat here. It was a great experience.
Great restaurant with outstanding food. Would come back again. Although, the entrance did confuse me a little with the curtains.
Excellent food, great service and nice portions. Nothing but nice evening.
My friends birthday was very special in this place, great food and fabulous champagne ! The Seevice was very good as well. If you visit San Francisco you must visit this restaurant👍🏼
Having been to L'Ardoise on many occasions, I really like the place. The food is good, service efficient, and the overall feel of the place is neighborhood friendly. However I am tired of the door being left open when it is cold out and the wind comes blowing in making it very uncomfortable. This had been going on for years. I would only recommend soneone go there now only if they can sit away from the first 1/3 of the room. It is something that should have been taken care of a long time ago. It can ruin a whole evening.
Great food, very friendly staff.
This is a bustling, warm and authentic French Bistro, and the overwhelming feeling is that this is the place to be.
Our birthday meal for four was so cozy and comfortable. The restaurant was full at 8:30 on Wednesday, and it is a vibrant neighborhood gem with a warm mix of regulars and happy new customers. It’s noisy- the kind of noise that’s satisfying, and not at all to the point where conversation is stifled. Service is welcoming and efficient. We had a tasty red French wine recommended by our waiter. We split the delicious shaved Brussels sprout salad, and another butter lettuce salad, and the squash soup of the day. Then wonderful hanger steaks and fries for all.
Flour-less chocolate cake for dessert.
A very happy and satisfyingly dinner
I have been eating for over three years. I have friend from Chicago that i have dinner with when ever he is in town. This past evening was a good bye dinner for a co-worker who is leaving and I had introduced the restaurant to. As always, it was a warm greeting. It is great to return to a restaurant and be remembered. The meal was outstanding as always. My friend enjoyed and said he will miss it.
We have been intending on coming to have dinner here for a while. It is rather popular so it is hard to get a reservation. It was well worth the wait. Delicious french food, served by great wait staff. We really could not have asked for more.
Great experience, stellar service!
L’Ardoise is one of our favorite places in the city. We love to come here for the cozy French style decor, impeccable service and delicious food. The food and wine list is reasonably priced. We’ve never had a bad time or dinner here! Definitely a neighborhood gem that’s always booked up.
We discovered L'Ardoise in Oct 2009 and loved everything about it from the beginning. Authentic experience and consistently excellent food. Most of the staff have been there from the beginning. We feel like we're at home whenever we dine here.
Great coq au vin, great Brussels sprouts salad and tasty charcuterie. The bread was delicious and abundant The atmosphere is old fashioned French with a SF edge in a lovely Noe Street location. A neighborhood gem we Jeep coming back to!
The service was fantastic the food was fantastic, the experience was fantastic! As it always has been!!
Superb! Delicious food & impeccable service.
Very intimate French bistro. Food quality is absolutely amazing, service was good. It’s everything you imagine in a neighborhood French bistro, with world class quality food.
Five star food, two star service.
Came here for Valentines Day and enjoyed a delicious 4-course meal after hearing great things. We were greeted warmly upon arrival. Unfortunately our server disappeared after our main courses and some ground pepper were brought to the table. In stark contrast to the neighboring tables, our wine glasses sat empty after the first glass, and were taken away without offering another for the rest of our time there. They also delivered the check without asking/checking to see if we wanted an after dinner drink or tea/coffee. We essentially ordered our food, and that was the end of any sort of personal interaction with wait staff. Very delicious food, but the service was nearly absent with the exception of prompt food running and water refills. The Valentine’s Day rose they gave us as we left was a nice gesture though!
Food was great, very delicious. Would definitely recommend it.
We just loved our dinner at L'Ardoise. I had the Brussels sprout salad and the coq au vin and it was all just wonderful. My friend loved his dinner too. We loved the cozy atmosphere too, and the nice waiters. Great experience!
A great place for a date. Excellent food and a romantic setting. The coq au vin is ridiculously tasty.
Makes me miss Paris
An unapologetically classic French restaurant, full of flavor, full of butter, rich and delicious. More like a French country restaurant in France, all the delicious food without the pretense and unctuousness that often accompanies really good French food in the US. A modest wine list, modestly priced, with plenty of good choices. We came a long way for this (80 miles) and it was absolutely worth it! We'll be back!
Charcuterie selection was excellent. Brussels sprouts were prepared perfectly and were refreshing palate cleanser. We both had steak (one the special and the other off the menu), which was perfectly seasoned, and cooked to the perfect temperature. The one area to improve on are the desserts. The Ile flottante and the Valrhona cake were OK. Wince list continues to be well-rounded with some great values. Last but most important, our server was attentive, pleasant and did NOT rush us as is so customary. Thank you for a memorable dinner!
A lovely spot, intimate and small, serving traditional French cuisine. We've eaten here many times over the years. The food is remarkably well prepared, and it may have the best service in San Francisco.
We have been coming here for birthdays, anniversaries, promotions, etc for many years and it is our favorite restaurant in San Francisco. The food is always great as well as the awesome wines available and kir royal to start. Highly recommended for authentic French cuisine and ambiance.
I continue to enjoy this spot. A glass of Vacqueyras was somewhat ... strange, but overall a nice dinner.
Loved it. I'll be coming back. Open table needs to update the prices on their menu. They're a bit more expensive in real life.
Always a pleasure to dine at this fine establishment! Great food, great service!
I proposed to my partner at L’Ardoise. The staff were very helpful in making the proposal a surprise.
This is simply the best restaurant in our neighborhood. We have dined here many times and every time they are so welcoming and the food exceptional. Great service and a great atmosphere.
Restaurant vibe was very casual and unpretentiousness. This was a very good find in San Francisco, located in mostly residential area, with street parking. Inside, feels cozy, warm and intimate. The food was simple and comforting. Started the evening with tiger prawn ravioles with a touch of finesse. The duck confit was moist and flavorful. My husband had the mushroom risotto with a good punch of earthiness. My daughter ordered the wagyu flat iron steak which was tender and cooked just right. My other daughter had the Parmesan risotto with Mahi-Mahi, moist and paired well with the grains. Offered good wine list that pairs well with the dishes on the menu. We ended the meal with their creme brûlée (silky & creamy texture) and the vahlrona chocolate fondant (delicate). Altogether, a delightful evening with very attentive servers.
The food was very good and the restaurant is located in a beautiful neighborhood.
great place,we will definitely come back. Love the coq au vin
I dine at L'Ardoise as often as is feasible. The owners are wonderful, the servers professional and helpful, the menu superb as is the wine list. Above all this may be the environment. Having lived in Paris for a time and dined at many wonderful Paris bistros, this transports me back to that wonderful time in my life. Also, it is quiet enough for a conversation without getting a sore throat from shouting and ringing in my ears when I leave. The desserts are the least wonderful selection so I almost always order the creme brulee which is always worth it.
