It’s our second time coming here in and we absolutely love it. We are from Sacramento and we definitely will recommend this place hands down. Their service is wonderful from the moment you get there to the moment you leave. Their food is outstanding, so much flavor.
We had a great time here. The best French food in San Francisco.
Perfect neighborhood French spot. The filet mignon was one of the best I’ve had!
Excellent comfort food and warm welcoming service. Don’t forget to try the ravioli as a starter! I will go back.
We always love l'ardoise
Excellent food, excellent service. Made another reservation to go back already!
Classic French dishes, fresh, fresh lettuce; elegant sauces that are not too rich or overpowering; perfect wine suggestions by waiter and excellent service.
We have recommended L'Ardoise to anyone we know who visits San Francisco. We visit the city once or twice a year and always come here. The ambience of this quaint and cozy bistro right in the heart of the Castro is sort of fairy tale-ish. The staff are amazing, always courteous, and accommodating. The chef is wonderful. Definitely our favorite in a city of many amazing restaurants.
Fantastic! Delicious food, very French. Wonderful service.
Typical french cuisine in a restaurant with a warm atmosphere. The waiter was very friendly and always there when needed.
The ‘faux-filet’ was perfect and I do love good meat.
I would definitely come back.
Haven’t been there in a long and my wife and I are scratching our heads wondering why. Food great, better than most places we ate in Paris. Great services too!
My husband had the scallops and he RAVED about them! When he had finished it looked like he'd licked the plate ;) I enjoyed the coq au vin and I'm very difficult to please when it comes to French food - that probably comes from my cooking experiences. It was wonderful! We went to L'Ardoise for an early birthday celebration and it really was a treat. I recommend making reservations. We arrived right as they opened and the place was filled within 30 minutes or so.
Birthday celebration. The tables are very close so you can hear the conversation of the next table if they are talking too loud. The woman that sat next to us was clueless of how loud she was.
The wait staff was very attentive and the food was amazing. For the birthday dessert, it was whipped cream with a candle on top.
This restaurant is my husband’s favorite so we will be back
Good old world European style in cosy restaurant and bar. Noise level was relatively high but only because everyone was enjoying themselves.
One opportunity for improvement: Give diners about 10 minutes between courses. No sooner had we finished our entrees and our main meals arrived. We let the waitress know this was not good practice.
Unfortunately my duck confit, slow cook for 7 hours was over-cooked, dry not crisp skin and dry meat with overall very bland flavour of the dish. I tried to eat it but gave up. Without asking the waitress did not charge me for it.
My wife’s salmon was ample and very tasty. The crème brûlée was exactly what you would hope for, crisp toffee glaze with luscious vanilla custard.
It was lovely!
We had our reservation at 11pm, we were late by 10mins. They still honored our reservation. We were the only one at the restaurant and gave us good service.
Very good/ fresh quality cuisine;highly professional level service. Exactly as described- typical Paris neighborhood restaurant. The apple tart was not a “ Tatin” as listed , so not as expected. The waiter and host both graciously offered ( we did not ask) it be removed from our check. The attitude/courtesy should be duly noted.Wish we lived closer to the neighborhood!
All you need to know is make a reservation and go to L’Ardoise! The Best!
Lovely as usual - one of my favorite approachable wines on list, the Malbec from Clos la Coutale in Cahors brought me back to my recent visit there!
Wonderful bistro and very attentive service. An authentic French experience!
This is my new favorite place in the city. It’s as if I walked down a Parisian alley and found the local’s hangout. Magnific!
There were 4 Birthday tables of 2 each. All romantic pairings. Perfect place.
Everything was outstanding. Highly recommend L’Ardoise.
Came to L’Ardoise for a birthday celebration. First time here and both hubby and I had a wonderful time. Great food and service! Cute place! Will come back again for sure
For my first time at L'Ardoise I was quite happy with my meal. It was delicious. I found the restaurant lovely and charming. Service was attentive and spot on. I enjoyed my experience a lot. I don't know why I have not been before. I will be a returning customer. Thanks!
Wonderful company. Amazing food - never a bad meal here. Service is wonderful
This gem is probably the best french bistro in town. The food is consistently delicious and the service is as friendly and attentive that probably you will consider them home.
When in the area, we can help to head to L’Ardoise and always have a relieve to see that the place is still there for us in this SF changing scene. Locals, french visiting and people that enjoy food and friends and avoid cells and work talk. Top notch!
It was my birthday
And it was amazing like always 🙏❤️
I'm almost hesitant to write this review because it is getting harder and harder to get a table but I have to give credit where credit is due. This is our favorite neighborhood restaurant in SF. Actually, it's probably my favorite SF restaurant overall. David is an excellent chef, the food is always perfectly cooked. The wait staff are all so friendly and welcoming and work their butts off, so tip them generously! The only drawback is that it is a small dining room so it gets crowded but it is cozy and warm and as far as I can tell, they always get it right.
Very, very, very loud. I had to scream at the server to order. Love this place - and have for many years - but they need to fix the noise issue.
We often celebrate here. This time it was our 47th anniversary. I had the warm goat cheese salad and my husband had the special heirloom tomato salad. Both were delicious. I followed that with the duck leg confit and my husband had wagyu tri tip. Again both were delicious. The service was excellent. I highly recommend L'ardoise!
As it has been for over 10 years, L'Ardoise has fantastic food and service.
This is truly a neighborhood gem. We will be going back!
Really nice romantic restaurant. I haven’t been here in years and now I remember why.The food comes out very fast . There was no way anything was cooked to order an you can taste it. It’s just a 6 an that’s more for nice atmosphere and service .
We had another wonderful dinner at L'Ardoise. Excellent service and superb food. The coq a'vin is world class.
My favorite restaurant in Bay Area! Everything is just amazing!
Fantastic food in a romantic atmosphere. Small but strong wine list. Friendly low-key service. Nearly everything we ate was the best example of it we’ve had - duck fat potatoes. Prawn ravioli, fig and arugula salad, tarte tatin. Highly recommended.
An absolute classic. But at the same time unique and warm and welcoming. Delightful experience
We’ve been their faithful customer since they opened in 2008. It is still the best French restaurant in the entire Bay Area.
The best French food in towns. Also, great service.
